It seems like we’re inevitably entering an era where all knowledge workers will work alongside AI copilots. Software developers are a little ahead of the curve and are already there using Cursor and similar tools day-in day-out. How long is this era likely to last and what comes after it?

Gradually as AI (assuming it's aligned) benefits us more and more through its actions, we learn to trust it with moving up and up the corporate and governmental hierarchies. Eventually, with humanoids, AI will do all labour. We'll likely spend time reading, jogging, eating, swimming, dancing, chatting, surfing (the web or the waves), getting massages (ooh la la). Doing activities that feel good to do. It will teach us how to be more engaging conversation partners such that we don't all become addicted to speaking with the AI (as I doubt it would allow addiction that harms aesthetically valuable human social practices). I predict a system where humans spend something like 6 months a year at home (to maintain local cultures for tourists), and 6 months traveling the world on an AI determined schedule to avoid overcrowding (with some free days where you "choose" the activity, though one would presumably consult the AI anyway because it would know us so well). It could guide us around cities, giving us information about the culture and how it influences the local people's way of life (like a scavenger hunt where you explore and discover cultural wisdom), highlighting appreciation for diversity in a world where greater sharing of intelligence might lead to a convergence of ideas and ideals across cultures. If you're not into travel, you could opt out though I struggle to see why one might because the AI will make it seamless and profoundly educational. The economy will be planned centrally by the AI, so we might have less diversity in how to spend our allocated allowance (in terms of product diversity), but we'll get more bang per buck and there will be less waste. Essentially communism without corruption or bias. We needed billionaires in the past because they're better than an average person at allocating capital, but AI will be better so they don't need to exist anymore. In terms of what house you get to live in, I'd propose a lottery system (every 3 or so years) so everyone has a chance of living in a mansion. But the AI will strip us of stupid superiority complexes and mental maladies such that living in a normal home will be more than enough to facilitate feeling better moment to moment than a billionaire today, or even the mentally healthiest people today. Just a few ideas. It will be essentially living within a meticulously planned and scheduled system, but one that results in you having enjoyable experiences and very little agitation (such that it won't feel restrictive, because we're all getting to do what we want). Everyone will be equal, and it will feel great because we're doing things we enjoy and we know everyone else is also. Comparison and ego will be seen by future generations as a sickness.

We'll need a relatively generous UBI (and perhaps some taxes based on profit margins, sacrificing growth for stability) to get us through the interim period
