84 yr old here! I believe everything you say. I sell on Etsy, eBay, and FBM. I don't make much money a year, probably $5,000. but it all helps. I rarely source from outside my attic and basement; I spend about 4 hours a day cleaning, listing, and shipping. I realize I am working for pennies an hour but at least my son won't have to deal with it later. Thanks for asking.

I'm sourcing from my home, too, and plan on keeping it that way until I get rid of everything I don't want anymore. Once I've cleared out enough precious space I won't mind venturing out to do some picking. Picking is the fun part, the challenge is selling it and making our customers happy. Reselling has to be a win/win situation for both buyer and seller. Cash flow is important, too. I don't have a lot of working capital to speculate (i.e. gamble) with, it's mostly tied up in what I already have which I seek to liquidate one way or another, fairly quickly. I'm kind of running my own estate sale, lol. Just at my own, relaxed pace. I'm learning a lot about the true value of things, as opposed to wishful (or whimsical) thinking.

Hi Kevin, I’m a 62-year-old grandmother who works 60 to 65 hours a week at my day job in about 20 hours a week on my eBay store. My store hovers around 700 items listed and I net about $3500 a month. you were exactly right. I learned the hard way it takes discipline. You can’t just list 100 items. Wipe your hands and wait for the money to roll in.

I’m a truck driver, I work 60 hours a week. I can only go to garage sales on Saturday, and Thrift Stores in the evening, or out on the road whenever I can….i have been VERY successful on eBay selling. I sell like it’s also a full time job, when it’s just a side thing. I make an extra 3-4K a month. I’m not greedy with my sales, I sell things quickly. If you work many hours, be encouraged you can do this! You have to have patience. Be dedicated and into it. Also, develop a good eye for things that you know you are comfortable flipping.

Hi, I was part time reselling until I lost my job at the beginning of Sept, I’ve transitioned the extra time to full time reselling and working on building my channel. I’m with in a handful of hours and subs for monetization, my goal when I was part time was the end of Oct but now I’ve upped my hours of work it looks like I’ll be good by the end of Sept. Sales are good and I’m seeing an uptick. Thanks for all of your videos and advice, it’s been really helpful as I’m still learning. Loving this reselling life!! 😊 I put in 40-50 hours a week.

I have a full time job of 40 hours a week. I am married (and my wife is a stay at home mom) and have 5 young kiddos. I have been reselling for 2-3 years now on the side as much as possible. Once the kids go to bed and before they wake up I am listing, sorting, packaging, purchasing etc. My goal is to pay off our mortgage in 3 years plus help with extra expenses. I am not sure the net profit but I can tell you the extra income brings financial security and is actually paying off the mortgage faster.

@ryankennedy6778 i have a very similar situation. It's been borderline life changing. We don't worry about money any more, do what we want and save much more. I'm not looking to pay my mortgage off sooner though. That's very cheap money and I can make more on my money than the interest we pay so for me it is wiser to invest rather than pay off

I'm a full time college professor, so I do most of my sourcing in the summer when my work load is lower. I do stockpile so I can post the rest of the year without putting in the work sourcing when I'm busy working on my primary job. I’m a teacher. I work close to 46 hours a week plus a commute. We just started selling this year and mainly things from our house with very few flips. Our sales have grown from a net profit of $70/month in March to $500/month in august. September is going to be around $300. LOTS of returns this month. Between two of us we put 20+ hours into our eBay side hustle a week. During the summer I was working 25-30 hours a week in addition to what my partner was doing about 15.

100% be humble and appreciate the freedom reselling gives you sounds like your not in it for the money Many many are that is there ONLY motivator when that is the totally wrong way to do it YOU must have a different motivator then THE MONEY actually having many motivators are even better does reselling allow you to be there for your kids activities or a family dinner where if you worked a Brick and mortar 9-5 you know you would not be able to do those things then that can be a motivator for some MORE then MONEY can and those motivators can give you that extra PUSH to work hard and list more so your one step ahead of your competition that do not want to work hard they think working smarter means they do not have to work harder NOPE totally wrong they both go hand and hand! as technsports says "easy money is not good and good money is not easy!!" 100% truth

I'm doing well, but I'm practically living on eBay, dedicating nearly 100 hours a week, that's including research. I sell a variety of items and have inherited a massive collection that fills an entire master bedroom. It's important to be serious about your work, possess basic communication skills, and treat others with respect. The nature of online interactions has caused many to forget that they're engaging with fellow humans. I'm striving to make positive changes in my life, and it's clear that it can't be done in isolation. I want to express my gratitude for the insights your content has provided. It has shed light on practices I've observed, like my mother collecting every Scrabble and Upwords game, then selling the components individually. You've explained the rationale behind it, something she can no longer do.

I work full time about 40-50 hours per week. The great thing is that I work at home and never go into an office. Still, it’s work. I work my reselling business about 25-30 hours a week. We sell on eBay, Mercari and Poshmark and soon, Dibdit. 😊 Last year we made a net profit of about 20k. The business pays for itself and helps fuel my hobby of collecting comics. It started as something fun for my wife and I to work together on, but soon we plan on retiring her so she can run this full time. We have fun sourcing and selling. I can’t imagine doing anything different.

Kevin, We are part timers, but with that being said, I put in around 40 hours a week, not including sourcing on the weekends, cleaning items, or logging items in our inventory. My husband works full time. Last year we netted right at $12K. We've reached that milestone for this year already, so we hope to net around $15K this year. We use it to make my Jeep payment every month, for unexpected medical bills, to source better items, and put the rest away toward retirement! Thanks for your insightful videos, it has helped us with what we source for sure. We are thankful for people like you out there that are willing to help educate others on how to have a successful eBay store and beyond. I do tons of research on what I source and sell because I enjoy learning about vintage and antique items and want to be as accurate as possible, but I also like to hear what other people's experiences are and what works for them. My biggest challenge is learning how to list more efficiently. I'm probably overly thorough with every thing we list and it takes me longer than I would like. ---Iris

I work a full time 40 hour a week US Postal Service job. I work roughly 15 hours a week reselling specifically on eBay and my net income is around $30,000 a year. If I want to make more then I work harder to list more items. I’ve been reselling since 1999 and I enjoy the level I’m at in reselling. When I retire I will ramp it up to make whatever I want. I could work many more hours at sourcing and listing but I don’t want to burn myself out. I could easily see doing this full time and making close to six figures honestly.

Not going to lie Kevin i agree with what your saying i work 12hrs a night 6 days a week then head over to my unit once im off where i clean, list , ship, and make drafts then head home in the afternoon. this is basiclly my routine for the week some days i dont even sleep or i get 2 - 3 hrs of sleep then back at the grind. I source estate sales , garage sales ect. my thinking is if your failing its because your choosing to fail. I just started to do what Dave said on the pod cast and on my days off i create enough drafts for the week and it does free up more time. Great advice from him, and did like you said and unlist items that havent sold change some things lower my price a little and relist and it sells. But in the end its all about how bad do you want it. I work 96 - 120 hrs every 2 weeks / so far $8,937 as of right now in 7 months of part time reselling

Sourcing, cleaning, listing, packing...can be astonishingly time-consuming. KZbin videos definitely paint an overly rosy picture, giving people unrealistic expectations. It would help if sourcing videos made more comments about how many hours of sourcing had to be done to find those dozen cool items they're showing off. But I guess that would go against the fantasy entertainment aspect that so many viewers find compelling. Seeing others be successful can be encouraging, but it can also be demoralizing if you don't realize how much work went into their success. This is true for any area of life - relationships, finances, family, work, assets, etc. All we tend to see are the amazing highlights, which makes us wonder if our own lives are defective in some way. Why doesn't success come so easily to us as it apparently does to others? Well, it doesn't come to them that easily, either. The Instagram effect, I guess some call it.

Hi Kevin, thanks for this video, this one really resonated. Working FT 38 hrs/wk, and probably another 20-ish hrs a week reselling. Reselling brings in near $30k a year net profit, 90% of that in media. What folks don't see is my 3:30am wakeup every Saturday morning to source (or 5:30am sleep-in on Sundays😂). Wouldn't change it though 😀 Like you said, it's about doing things that can place you in front of your competition, to find the best stock you can list. Never thought I'd say this, but i (mostly) enjoy the grind! Respect to all fellow resellers and especially fulltimers - this ain't an easy gig to do well in, but is so worth it.

Full-time teacher who probably puts in 20 to 40 hours a week on top for reselling. I grossed about 90,000 last year and with a little luck might get to 100,000 this year (gross before all of the expenses and taxes to be clear.). I think one thing you’re missing is the amount of mental effort that needs to go into it. When I’m not attending to my schoolwork or to my family, then I am thinking about reselling and what I can do to make this better, from the micro of when will I have time to work on pictures and listing, to the macro how can I maximize my sourcing weekend to streamlining the listing process. I’m paying attention to what is going on around me to see what might be the latest trend or what might have a temporary surge in interest. In a similar vein, you need to have quite a bit of mental fortitude, including being ready for the slow sales and lulls that are bound to happen to everyone no matter how big your business is

Part time -- though I sell a few of my own things, mostly I sell for our church ladies. They select "collectibles" from items that come in for our rummage sales, and I list and sell the items for them. Depending on what comes in, of course....the last couple years, I've made about $2,000 extra each year for them, and they're thrilled. It IS more work than some think. Especially clothing -- lots of measuring, which gets to be a pain. My main challenge is larger items, because the boxing/packing/shipping can be more work than the item is worth. I've become more selective.

So, I’m not as prepared for Q4 as I’d like to be and haven’t been listing as much I should but once I’m moved I plan hitting the listings hard and get back to sourcing new inventory…

I have only been selling for 2 years currently sitting at 20k active listings and 19k items sold. I think most people dont understand you are paying your future self. I still have items sell from my inventory that I listed 2 years ago. To get where you want to be is going to be working hundreds of hours up front at $0/hour so your future self can make 50+/hr

Hey Kevin! First off, I can't thank you enough for your channel. I am a newbie reseller and you have saved me a lot of headaches, stress and money just by learning what to pick and what not to. Anyway, I've decided to sell my Nike Slingshot golf clubs. The question I have is where do you get your shipping boxes from? Do you order them, make your own, cardboard bins from brick and mortar stores? Secondly, I noticed shipping is absolutely outrages. The cheapest route I've found is USPS priority for $77-$280. No one is going to pay that so is there an option I'm not seeing. Any info would be greatly appreciated! P.S. Sorry for the long message!

Been getting ready for Q4 since the last Q4 ended. I have turned down offers all year, and I will do extremely well. With that being said what makes things hard for resellers is when you have people selling $50 items for $15 you can not deny that it sucks.

How do you think weather impscts pack sales.... I would think that if people are getting flooded out that they might need new product and it might stimulate sales but at the same time if 2 million people don't have power for a week or two that could depress sales. Same thing with tornadoes and snow storms. Any Thoughts?

I agree. I never believed Kevin either. He claimed that he only worked 20 hours a week, then why did he have to hire his daughter in law to help, and he didn't count the hours his wife and children worked. I wish these KZbinrs would just be honest. They only sell the good parts of the biz, and ignore the bad, just to get subcribers.

100% agree. I work full time 40 hours a week at a credit union. 90% of my time from getting home to bed time is spent on EBay. Saturdays are spent sourcing with my friend (who spends as much time on her business as I do and also works full time) and Sundays after church are mostly spent listing. I put lots of effort and lots of time with hopes of building a full time business that will allow retirement soon!
