I think part of the reason Louis's ability to pay attention to everyone is because he grew up with 4 girls around. So he learned to make them feel like he care about them equally.

I do think part of Louis’ ability to connect with someone for a few seconds, then switch his attention towards different people really quickly, stems from him being one of 7 siblings in a very big family. He thrives off that busy chaos and is able to connect and communicate with lots of people at once.

@@maxpbeaumont He is! The eldest of 7, 5 younger sisters and a younger brother. (Although he unfortunately lost one of his younger sisters a few years ago❤️) I definitely think it has played a part in his social dynamic within a group. He’s had to have been able to give each of his younger siblings his full attention at any given time, but also share that attention out equally between them all :) Always be that energetic older brother who has time for all of his siblings, from many interviews you can just tell how much his family means to him ❤️

6:00 the way you described Niall is so so accurate. I couldn't agree more !! He can be so loud but at the same time, he is capable of just sitting back and being calm, when he wants to. I think between him and Liam, they were the ones always introducing the band or even giving the speech when they received an award. I have also seen that he can easily be the centre of attention when he wants to be, but other times he just sits back and lets others speak. He has an incredible sense of humour! I also always loved the fact that Niall almost let everyone complete what they are saying, especially Harry, no matter how long Harry took. That's why I think Narry interviews are the best!I have also seen Niall encourage Zayn to speak up in interviews when Zayn was not sure of himself.

Loved your analysis. Liam is indeed underrated. He's got a great sense of humour, has great connections with Louis and Niall and is basically solid and dependable. Niall is quite intelligent and wholesome, with an engaging laugh.

Liam and Harry are both the most sensible ones in the group. They are the ones who actually try to pay attention to the interview when the others are acting silly. Sometimes Harry would ignore his bandmates when things get chaotic and just continue to answer questions or go on with interview/conversation. On stage he's more professional and focused as well. He usually minds his own business on stage and does his own thing why the bandmates are having fun or being chaotic. As a person with anxiety, In One Direction, Harry to me didn't seem like the type who craved attention. He used to be quiet just like Zayn, Niall was really quiet as well-He just giggled alot.

All of the boys love this pic and commented on it during another interview 😂 apparently the pic was originally very small size-wise but whoever was responsible for the making of the book enlarged it so that it fit two pages 💀 Louis looks so cute in it though hahaha. There’s a pic (also from another interview about the book) that the boys took while holding the book and having it open on their favorite page. 3 of the boys had THIS page open, the 4th boy had another page of another pic of Louis open. And only Louis had a pic of Niall 😂🤷‍♀️

Niall can definitely be a leader if he wants. he's very chilled out, he doesn't use his energy when he doesn't need to. if there's something he really wants to say he'll come out and say it but other than that he just likes to sit back and enjoy and just go with the flow. i really aspire to be as carefree but the same time as caring as Niall. he does it all so perfectly its really admirable.

I understand what you said about Niall having a brighter energy. Like, even if it’s a bad day he’s still very much present. He doesn’t really show it as much as, say Louis. Louis is a very open person, if he’s having a bad day you can quickly see it. Louis can get dark and sad, same for the other three, but Niall is kinda always okay (it appears).

Zayn was equally playful, mischievous and involved in all the interactions back in 2010 to prolly around 2013 but as they grew older and started to fully contribute in the music and song-writing and stuff, his creative inputs weren't considered as they "didn't fit the grand of what they were" and he said this HIMSELF that it started getting frustrating in the end [cuz his music genre is the completely different amongst rest of the them if we see the solo stuff] He always suffered from racism and all this started to take a toll on him later when he developed anxiety and eating disorder (he wrote this in his book) and that's the reason he was too reserved, so he left the band abruptly when it had gotten worse.

He has this look of contempt he gets a lot, especially when looking to their PR person ensuring an event goes as they want it to go and not where the guys might lead it, etc. He's overlooked as someone who's kind and thoughtful, and I think a lot of it is that he was so self-aware and self-conscious, represented negatively more than the others because he was given the role as 'bad boy', which he's far from, that people choose not to see that side of him and don't acknowledge it, and in some ways maybe Harry overshadowed him there with the kind/thoughtful/loyal side of things; in the beginning Harry was a lot more quiet and Louis was the one leading all of that. I guess it rubbed off over time and he too became more confident in being open with his emotions like that.

What you said about Niall at 5:41 was spot on. In one of their interviews for This Is Us, Louis said, "When in doubt, the answer's always Niall." And indeed, even after their hiatus, when they're being asked in separate interviews about who's the one they're closest to or whose music they like best, they answer Niall most of the time. I think Niall is their common ground.

I feel so bad for Zayn because over the years u can see how much he changed. At this time he was dealing with an eating disorder too and i remember how thin he looked and he looked like he was always in his mind and always anxious. The spotlight really doesn't go well with him. He got so much racism from the media and some fans because he was muslim and Pakistani so people called him terrorist and stuff. He went through a lot. I hope his anxiety gets better. He hasn't performed live since 2016, in 2016 he performed live and i remember in iheart radio performance 2016 he got anxiety attack backstage and he was throwing up but still went on stage and performed and then he cancelled a lot of his solo appearances after that and didn't perform again. Now he is just releasing music but mostly staying out of the spotlight. I hope he can find a way to overcome it:(

They're just off tour there and probably in the middle of promoting next thing and you just feel some of them are already very tired. Zayn seems quiet and I bet he's been going through a lot at that moment, he left a few month later. Niall's mixing events and dates, Harry's talking gibberish seems fun but I bet they're all jet lag, and it might be chronical at that time. Liam and Louis are defying my theory though))) The boys personalities peak through here. Love your 1D videos! I think your observations are spot-on. One thing I haven’t seen you point out is the change in Harry. In their early years he was more a part of the goofy group dynamic, very much vibing off Louis. But by the point of this interview (when he was, I think, 20), he was much quieter, especially before the interview officially started. He was on his phone, texting, just generally not as connected to the group. But then, the instant the producer started getting their attention, you can watch him kind of “turn it on”-start looking people in the eye, smiling, joking, etc. It’s like you can see him turn on the charisma. Not that he’s being fake. I just think that, as he matured, and after having his private life so overexamined by the press, he developed the ability to detach a bit from all that as a defense mechanism. He has talked about how he compartmentalizes his personal and professional lives-I think it’s what lets him handle fame and still stay so psychologically healthy.. He treats it like a job, and doesn’t let any of the fame craziness or what people say about him affect who he knows he is as a person, in his private life. But the fact that he manages to “hold something back” for himself personally, and still have his public persona be so incredibly charming and charismatic and likeable-not at all cold and distant-is I think the key to his success. As Zayn put it once in an interview, Harry was just “born for this”-his strengths and talents are perfectly suited for the job of an international superstar. You can contrast that with the others: Louis, who is a completely open book-what you see is what you get. So what fans love about him is his realness, his down to earthness, and how much the support of his fans genuinely means to him. He makes that abundantly clear to fans, and it’s the reason his fans are so devoted to him. But I do wonder if it opens him up to insecurity-he’s not coming from as balanced and centered a place as Harry is. Then there’s Zayn, who is perfectly NOT suited to being a pop star-can’t “turn it on.” He has so much talent and so much to say that’s valuable, but to me the tragic thing about him is that his issues prevent him from being able to enjoy any part of the job, He really would be so much happier if he could just create music and writing and art in solitude, and never have to deal with the anxiety of putting it out into the world, He seems to now have created a life for himself where he kind of does that-he just makes albums and put them out, but doesn’t do any promo or performing. I hope this leads him to the peace he wants. And then there’s Liam, who really is a great, “well-rounded” pop star, as you put it-funny, sharp, charismatic, kind of up for anything. In his case I think what holds him back is just that he’s not sure enough of who he is-he tries too hard to please other people, which means that he often doesn’t get the attention or credit that he deserves. And finally there’s Niall, who like you said is just a good, solid guy. I agree that he has the potential to be a leader, but the impression I get is that he doesn’t really want to be. He prefers chilling and not being in the spotlight.
