Daniel S It means (I think) that Lost promised so much in season 1 and by the end (according to many) the finale was a bit vanilla and a sell-out.

Back when the episode first aired, the description began "The meaning of Christmas is lost", which is amazing retroactively AND Damon Lindelof's twitter response to the episode was "Okay, COMMUNITY. It's ON!!!! Now if only I had a show to zing you back. And if only you weren't awesome. Sigh..." Good times

I never noticed Shirley coming back for the Menorah. In the first Christmas special she wasn't so accepting of others faith. The way every single character grows throughout the show makes Community so special.

I really feel for Britta there. She genuinely cared for Abed and had all the right intentions, but she just couldn't go about it the right way.

@@dingdongslick9344 yeah, she genuinely cares about her friends and tries to help them even when she doesn't really know how to go about it, but she's fiercely determined to be there for them so she eventually does end up helping in some way. Unfortunately it tends to go unnoticed and overshadowed by her mistakes and the show's tendency to make her the butt of the joke.

Early childhood is sometimes referred to as our "programming phase," since the brain waves of children up to age 7 are mostly in the alpha or theta state, the same state as meditation or hypnosis. Given what we learn later about Britta's history, it's literally true that Brittabot was programmed badly. Idk if this was a conscious decision by the writers, or just an intuitive understanding of human nature that led to a similar conclusion as the actual science. Either way, it's pretty fucking cool.

Well, Abed's mom ditched Abed & his father because he had a condition, remember (that student film he made in 1x3) So it's not surprising that his mom would stop making her annual visit now that she has another child

I really can’t tell if his mum is a bitch who ditched her son because he had a condition and then when she had a chance at a normal child took it and left Abed behind, or if she was just a woman under a lot of stress because her husband was an asshole and her son had a serious learning disability that made it hard for her to raise him

Intisar_ I've never watched Lost but from what I've heard, the show started with a plane crash and it was about survivors on an island. While the show was on, everyone was talking about what the big meaning would be behind it all. They thought it was going to be something deep and meaningful. When it ended, a lot of people were disappointed with the ending and felt like they wasted their time with it. They were waiting for a big pay off all those years and they didn't get it

When this episode aired I hated it, but now with the benefit of adult hindsight… it’s fine, I guess. The animation is good but it’s has the most jokes fall flat of any episode outside of season 4. And I don’t think the message they chose properly ties up the emotional conflict.

The Abed character has always been a hit-or-miss for me. This one is obviously on the 'miss' side. While interesting, this is the worst episode of the series, by this point. He can really be the most obnoxious, selfish, in-denial character in the show, and this episode shows that (in method, not as much in intention).

He’s not really being selfish in this episode though, he’s got a learning disability that makes it hard for him to deal with change and his mother knew this but decided to not see him around the holidays for 1 day out of the entire month despite knowing how much her yearly visit means to him
