Driven by a love for skateboarding, Grindline Skateparks started with the goal of building outdoor skate parks in the Seattle area. Over thirty years later, they've shared their passion by creating not only world-class skate parks but also fostering community and helping skateboarding evolve. Video by Chris Barnes. As a Seattke native there was nothing to skate when I moved there in 1998. I recently moved to San Diego last winter and they don't have as good of skateparks here like there is in Seattle. However the natural street spots here make up for that. Glad to have witness and skated Seattle for years, in the end there's so many good parks in that region. I miss that. If all you are wondering in Seattle, you've got the best parks maybe Portland too. This is why. The only downside I face is that those parks are wet for like 8 months out of the year. Grindline you should make more covered parks there, I have an idea for a parking garage style skatepark that would go over big in Seattle. Parking decks are the only thing to skate in the winter in Seattle. UW is a good one. But if you go to the park and ride in Factoria I left some clear enameled parking blocks in the park and ride parking decks there. It stays dry and you don't get kicked out. Thats my spot and since I live in SD now you all should check it out if you need somewhere to skate in the winter there. Enjoy the rain!

Bro, Cali has so many skateparks and ditches, Storm drains, the Coors Bowl,.the one under the I-8, there's so many spots in Sandy Eggo.

@@quikdraw5203 yeah the street spots are endless no need to go to skateparks in SD. I'm just saying though skateparks are better in seattle, 100 or more grindline parks, SD has like 5 grindline parks and the rest of the parks here are very cookie cutter or out dated. The good parks are very busy and gated to enter, most don't even open until like 10am. Seattle has no gated skateparks and they're plentyful. I think Monks vision came to fruition, he wanted to make a lot of parks in Seattle and he did just that. Like I said I moved there in 1998 and there was only like 3 parks in seattle back then. Street skating was difficult in seattle with the rain and weathered concrete and that was the only option. Just saying that Seattle came along way to what it is now. I think that was his vision and I will say that I love Seattle skateparks way more than whats in SD currently. BUT there's a street spot almost anywhere in SD like ditches and perfect curbs so I'm not complaining. I hardly miss seattle but I do miss the parks.

@@zerosk8er453s yeah man! Guess where I live like 10 minutes from linda vista. Only thing about that park its very busy, in the morning theres a bunch of kids taking lessons. Its a rad park, but that's like one one of the few really good parks. The grindline park in Imperial Beach is pretty sick too. It's got a little 3'-4' flow bowl that is so fun.

I think deep bowls are highly under utilized. Most modern skate boarders prefer street obstacles at various ability levels. Modern skateboarders like mellow transition used to build speed for the street obstacles. I think the sea skate park is a good example of how a park should be built. I find many grindline parks to be too focused on gnarly transition and often unused as a result.

Yeah, that's kind of the downside of that era of Dreamland and Grindline building what they wanted to skate... they'd all been ripping for 20 years at that point. So they built a lot of big stuff! It makes for a tough park to start out in. But the newer parks are doing a great job of including smaller and mellower obstacles for beginners.

They have certainly toned some of that down. I think there's a balance that can be stuck, and something like the new park they built in North Bend is a great example of that.

hope they build a park in Puyallup next! the downtown skatepark is jagged and would benefit from concrete features instead of the ramps they have rn

Which is the company that refuses to allow bicycles?*edit its team pain after doing some research idk how old it is though* Because nowadays most kids ride Plastic pegs and pedals which cause zero damage.... soooo yeah still seeing a NO BIKES sign, is normally only enforced by some local with leopard skin knee pads or some bored cop. 99.9% of skaters don't care anymore as we all help at the DIY and FDR.. So its a lot more of a community to make the city of Philly as sick as possible... I just wish we could've gotten along a lot better back in the early 00's-mid 00s. But seeing a local new skatepark not even allow inline skates is just hilarious as they are causing zero damage. My one friend is a bmxer and helps build concrete parks full time, I forget if its Grindline or Pivot Skateparks *edit its Pivot* I Know its not Team Pain I know they are very anti BMX.
