Something about the speed of that el toro kickflip and the way he the overhead camera angle shows him catching the board makes the look of that kickflip unbeatable to me. but overall the Costco gap kickflip is insane if only for the fact that almost no one else has even gone back to fuck with it. also I love the way these guys talk to eachother. so much respect man. people dont want to skate a spot that is a glorified loading dock and big drop. just doesnt appeal to most people or look that great. bachinsky was going as fast as one can go on a skateboard to flip el toro, sheckler was just cruising at a medium speed because its only 5 feet to clear compared to el toros 20.
@saturnvi542110 ай бұрын
@@sharongreffin1715 that’s funny I feel exactly opposite, when I saw shecklers kick flip about 10 years ago and didn’t care about skating it was memorable, massive and gnarly going over a fence. It’s more unique than another set of ugly stairs being jumped down, stairs are everywhere, nothing interesting about that set. I may have seen bachinskis too but would’ve been forgettable. Ryan seriously pushed the limits of the size of drops doing that, as well his was way cleaner and 6 feet higher. Says a lot that sheckler himself nearly backside flipped el toro as to what is objectively more impressive.

yes he pushed the limits of drops aka loading docks and its not 6 feet higher. there is literally evidence right on video showing that: measuring at an angle, holding tape a foot above fence, and him adding a foot just for fun. also i wouldnt say he nearly bs flipped el toro as the closest attempt he had was him doing the splits. joslin almost tre flipped it thats fair to say, sheckler nope. maybe if el toro was a big drop with nothing to clear he would have landed it.@@saturnvi5421

I think something that skating teaches you that kinda goes unspoken unless you are a skater, is humility. You humble yourself every time you try and fail a trick. Hundreds of times per trick potentially or more. And it teaches you that you have to work for it. And every skater understands this truth and it puts like a humility into anything you achieve or do. Its like yeah i did this but bro so did this guy with this trick or w.e it is. A real skater will always say but yeah this so and so or nah man you can do this. Its never just a fuck yes im the best. And as weve gotten older i think its translated well into other aspects and ironically creates a sense of respect that most people dont assume skaters have just cause we get kicked out of everywhere for just doing something. There are bad eggs but as you get older you realize nah man we just out here tryna do fun shit for fun.

I know when I first saw it 10 years ago before I ever gave a shit about skating I never forgot it whereas I think i would have forgotten el Toro cause it’s just another set of stairs at the end of the day. Adding on we all know with how close Ryan came to backside flipping el Toro he probably wouldn’t have struggled to much with a straight kick flip on it. I kind of find it amusing the mental gymnastics these athletes are pulling to make it sound like their comparable when one is 9 feet and the other is 15 with a fence to clear on a spot nobody else has skated.

The coliseum skateboarding shop always treated me like family for not being a local mass kid. I’d come up from maine and my grandma lived in stoneham the town over from melrose where the first shop was located before they moved into the city. I would skateboard over and their shop was located on the second floor of a building and they had demos in the parking lot! Mat & Arty where the owners and they where so kind to me and gave me deals they did t have to and made my youth so much fun! Love to those dudes and the coliseum crew I hope they know how much they impact my life and the people around them💚🤙🏻🙏🏼🏄🏽♂️

Many of these dudes say such stupid answers to "the most famous kickflip" due to bias. obviously its not one of those old clips. has to be shecklers since hes had most fans of the bunch outside hardcore skaters
@bartsimpson670810 ай бұрын
but yes I get it, they want to include more names in the video

It is all very relative to the eras they grew up skating in

“Obviously it’s not one of those old clips”? Those were all big deals. And Franks down Wallenberg wasn’t that long before Bachinskys, which itself is almost 20 years ago. Your comment only makes sense if you heard of non of the older kickflips. I started skating in 2002 and Gonzs Mobflip and Marchovics down Carlsbad Gap were legendary. It seems to me that newer skaters just don’t care enough about skateboarding history.

I was at my skating peak when the majority of these came out. Bachinsky’s el toro kickflip was the most ubiquitous and impactful by far. Literally everybody who was into skating brought it up when it happened. All the others were amazing, but it was only brought up in context of a part or when people were talking about the skater in general. Everyone was talking about the el toro kickflip after it happened.

I know this isnt in the same category but Keenan Milton's switch flip over the picnic table was a work of art. RIP.

You got to give it to shecks. Not a single soul has touched the Costco Gap since. There's a reason for that.
