A really good list dive. I disagree with Hulk 340 (for those looking for a dissenting opinion, I am not here to fight, just offering a counterargument). The biggest drivers of comic books from the cooper age forward are movie and television pop culture relevance. Iconic covers without a first appearance from this era have capped upside. Yes, it's McFarlane, but so is Coyote 11 which is a flat investment book with more importance to Todd's career path at Marvel.
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Michael. Based off of my experience selling books over the past decade, I can assure you that very few books move as quickly as Hulk340. It’s the perfect combination of character, artist and classic cover. Most importantly, it’s still a financially accessible book for most every collector. Coyote 11 is an ok book, I’ve sold a lot of them as well, but 340 is a modern classic. It will never be 181, but it’s a very collectible issue with strong demand in the market. I definitely appreciate you watching and providing an alternative perspective.

@@CoMoComicBooks I should have started by noting I'm a comic bear, not a bull, when it comes to many market trends (there are going to be a whole lot of CGC yellow label modern books being firesaled in 3-5 years, but that's a topic for another day. 340 is a great book, but the upward movements do scare me. I've been dealing comics for 30 years and it still makes me scratch my head to see the last 5 years vs the prior 25 on it. Great channel, and btw amazing analysis on the Crow. Sincere question: If you could grab a CGC slabbed comic graded at 7.5, or snag the ungraded comic (same issue) that appears to be pristine (both having white pages,) which do you typically choose? I recently snagged a CGC slabbed 7.5 (White Pages) of ASM #316. I chose this copy over a CGC slabbed 8.5 (with Off-White pages,) saving myself roughly $150. In addition, the 7.5 looks flawless both front and back, even flaunting a crease-free spine. Whereas the 8.5 had several white eyelash-creases along the spine. Am I crazy for trusting my eyes (and saving some cash) over an arbitrary number displayed on a clear piece of acrylic?
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay! I think the last important thing is that you bought the book you felt presented best for the investment. I hear the phrase “Buy the book, not the grade” more and more often. Though if you’re truly curious about the grade, I would consider buying the graders notes for your book.

The copper age clearly has proven to produce some memorable comics! Definitely I want to add this amazing books to my collection! Thankfully they are still very affordable due to massive printing!
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
The prices have been very reasonable for a long time due to the volume of inventory. I think we’re just at the tipping point where supply and demand are starting to balance out or even shift to a place where demand is outpacing supply on certain books. Every year there is another handful of books that start climbing their way out of the discount bins!

Great "alternative" Copper top 10 list outside the std tiring, most expensive list for TMNT, ASM, etc. As mentioned by others over the years, I feel this industry should officially create a new "Age" after the Bronze Age since books considered in the Modern Age range is very wide...🤔

Seraphim Fetishes Cindradel turned on the light. 'When was this last opened?' asked Daniel the Seraphim. 'Cobwebs and dust everywhere,' said Valandriel. 'A number of aeons ago,' replied Cindradel. She looked around the archive, and found the book after a while. She took it, dusted it off, and retreated. 'Out, out boys,' she said. 'Nothing for you to see here.' 'Ooh,' said Daniel. 'Cindradel's private stash of knowledge.' 'I'm old like you Seraphim boy,' said Cindradel. 'And I don't spend my bikkies all at once schmuck.' The returned to the overseers office, and Cindradel sat down at the overseer's desk and opened the book. 'Right,' she said. 'Now Michael has some issues.' 'The goss,' said Daniel. 'He likes naughty gay pictures,' said Cindradel. 'Every once in a while he receives a brown paper bag with magazines in them. Stud Boy Lovers and the like. He keeps them privately out of Elenniel's reach.' 'Who really cares about Mikey Dyke,' said Daniel. 'His rep is shit anyway.' 'Gabriel has some problems with fetishes,' said Cindradel. 'See this picture?' she said. 'He's holding a carrot,' said Valandriel. 'Aquariel occasionally shoves carrots and celery sticks up his butt. When they are getting playful and funny. It's his quirky humour.' 'Solid gold,' said Daniel. 'This one's a classic,' said Cindradel. She showed them a picture of Saruviel in front of a giant statue of a fish. 'Saruviel likes to sleep with fish in a bath tub every few billion years, and reflect on his life as the grand monotheistic ecumenizer of Christendom. It's really weird stuff. He lays their singing 'Me and the Fish of Christ. They know my love I am their way. Me and the fish of Christ. I fish their hearts, with me they play.' 'Fucking weird,' said Valandriel. 'The fish have to be around him swimming, and he thinks 'The fish need to be in a symbiotic relationship with the grand ecumenizer. Then they will obey Christ and his Apostle. It's really strange paranoia, but he gets this glint in his eyes some times when Jesus is mentioned with fish symbols and things. A strange psychosis enters in.' 'That's more bizarre than comedic,' said Daniel. 'They've all got that about them. Some bits and pieces which are strange and nonsensical. Odd bits which make no real true sense, but I have been told by Aquariel have original bizzarity in them. There is animistic original spirit which they get for the experiences, which seemed to be their cut of the shizz.' Valandriel turned over the book. 'Animistic Buzz' is written on the cover. 'It's what I titled it,' said Cindradel. 'They confess a lot of stuff to me when they are in the office.' 'I don't think I've got much weirdness like that,' said Daniel. 'Nor me' said Valandriel. 'You two are actually quite normal,' said Cindradel. 'It's like its a package you guys didn't sign up for or something.' Daniel looked at Valandriel. 'Weird kemosabe,' said Daniel. 'No kidding,' replied Valandriel. And so they looked at more pictures, and chuckled, and another fine day passed in the realm of eternity. The End

@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ernesto! You’ll always find a variety of date ranges for the various ages. I go with the school of thought that the Modern Age began in 1992 with the founding of/premiere of Image.
@class516003 жыл бұрын
I will investigate further thank you for the advice. If it's OK one additional question what do you think of these dates. Golden 1938-1955, Silver 1956-1969, bronze 1970-1979, Copper 1980-1991 (now hehe) Modern 1992 - present.
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
@@class51600 those are pretty close. I think there is a strong argument to be made for an Atomic Age between ‘48-‘54 or so, as the crime/horror/sci-fi books from the era were extremely unique from the GA books before and the SA books that followed. And the important thing to remember is that there is no hard line or single event that dictates the end of one Age and the start of another. I see people argue they Showcase 4 is the beginning of the Silver Age and I see others argue they Fantastic Four 1 is the start of the Silver Age. It’s all subject to change, as the point(s) of delineation are debated amongst historians and collectors. Best to think of the dates as guidelines, more than rules.

Thanks for the video! Look forward to learning more from your channel. Been going thru my collection of comics from my youth and adding a few more as I dip my toe back into the market. I’m trying to understand how the value of a comic can go from $20 to $250 for the cost of a $30 appraisal - Wouldn’t the guy selling it ungraded know he can make $200+ by having it slabbed?
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
It’s a strange new world out there. The time and money upfront is why a lot of books are sold raw. If your business is based on selling volume, not a profit driven model, then selling more books faster is more aligned with what you do then waiting for your slabs to come back. Great video as always! Hey, got a weird question for you. Batman 423 is popular/valuable because of the Todd McFarlane cover. Nobody ever mentions the story inside and as I recall, it's a pretty standard Batman issue for the time. That being said, I own a page of original (Dave Cockrum) art from the book. Not sure if you're into original art but I'm curious as to your opinion about whether or not it's worth more because 423 is hot or is it just all about that cover? I'd never sell it as it's one of the few things from my old collection that survived our house fire...just curious.
@CoMoComicBooks3 жыл бұрын
Hey sir! The story really is solid, in my opinion. Cockrum original art, is still Cockrum original art. That said, an interior page of an issue that’s most notable for its cover will rarely outshine the cover art. However, a classic artist drawing a legendary character is always going to have marketability. Sorry to hear about the fire. That is a nightmare scenario for so many of us.
@itcamefromthenerdcave16693 жыл бұрын
@@CoMoComicBooks Thanks man! You are not wrong...It was brutal but I've gotten past it more or less...what can you do, right? Side note to the Cockrum art...True story and I still can't believe it. I was stationed in DC from 1987-90. Probably sometime in late 89, I attended a small monthly comic con at a Howard Johnson's hotel. Dave Cockrum was the guest of honor and he had a pile of original art for sale on his table. I had hit the dealer room first and was more or less tapped out. I asked him how much he was selling the art for expecting some crazy figure way out of my budget and I swear on my cat...$5 per page. I only had $10 so I got the 423 page (It's the one where Batman fights the thug with a mohawk and threatens him through clenched teeth) and a page from Silver Surfer. He had several covers displayed on easels and I was ready to go donate plasma to get one but he was not selling those. He was super nice and it's one of the highlights of my nerd life.

Well good luck if you do the right thing you don’t have to work for a living because of comic books I haven’t worked in 10 years I just go to Yankee Stadium I am a ticket holder. Yes when I was bartending in Connecticut I picked up some good bucks I don’t have any money but if I need money I have to sell a comic book. Some of the good ones I still have. Spiderman 1 6.5 amazing fantasy 15 6.0 8.0 that one is restored x-Men 1 7.0 tales of suspense 39 8.5 yes I still have other books like superman 1 5.0 restored but no trimming I did not pay much for any of these books I bought them in the last 20 years. The superman cost me $12,500 the amazing fantasy 15 6.0 I only paid $4000 for that and the 8.0 restored I got that for $450 hard to believe. Anyway good luck I love your video I hope you have enough books where you don’t ever have to work again I have not done anything for the last 10 years I only go to New York Yankee games because I have tickets every year😃😃😃😃😃
