Are Microsoft Studios Bringing Back The Transformers Cybertron Video Games? (2024)

We have received some intel stating that Microsoft Studios is working on not just one but two video game projects which appears to target this year for their release. - SOURCE news.tfw2005.c...
It is interesting that Microsoft Studios now owns Activision Blizzard (formerly known as Activision). The company, prior to the acquisition by the tech giant, published multiple Transformers-related video game titles including Transformers: War For Cybertron and its follow-up Fall Of Cybertron.

I honestly don’t understand why they couldn’t just make WFC and FOC into a bundle like you said in the video and I know this is might just be me but I think if Microsoft reaches out to Hasbro and went into some kind of negotiations around the multiplayer and escalation of both those games that would be a dream come true in my opinion.

As said, Hasbro has been trying to get War & Fall of Cybertron rereleased for years but Activision has lost the codes. Now, Activision claims that was incorrect, but do you really trust these guys? More likely, Activision was trying to save face, and Hasbro, not seeing the need to burn bridges over this, just acquiesed & apologised. That still doesn't magically get that original code back, though. That's still gone. So don't get your hopes up.

@@vindicatorschannel7136 The problem last year was that everyone heard Hasbro’s statement about wanting to bring the games back and immediately just assumed it would happen because of the Microsoft and Activision acquisition. Outside of Hasbro’s statement of wanting it to happen, there was nothing to suggest Microsoft had any plans to do anything with those games. However, now, we have a report that states Microsoft is working on Transformers, two new Transformers titles have been rated in Australia under the production of Microsoft (one of them being categorised in the same category as multiple remasters), and the Steam Keys for all the Transformers games were updated a few days ago. There’s a lot more stuff to suggest Microsoft is doing something with the IP now than there ever was last year.

I think what I would like to see is a bundle of all 3 story modes and Fall of Cybertron Multiplayer with all custom options that were not in the game e.g. WFC Prime and Megs, Barricade and the ROTDS movie bots. Heck even make some new ones for DLC like Optimus Primal, IDW Rodimus or bring in some from the DOTM game. I know licences on vehicles could be an issue but still, some new customisation options could be fun

I thankfully snagged WFC and FOC Steam keys off Amazon about 2 years ago before they dried up, and that's how I've been playing them. Re-listing them on Steam would be a decent bare minimum, but a remaster or re-release with adjustments for stability on modern PCs would be awesome. (WFC likes to crash with a 60 fps mod running sometimes)

There’s the current gamer edition doing the war for cybertron characters so there is merchandise already and if they do a cybertron game bundle the gamer edition could bleed into fall of cybertron designs. Doing a campaign bundle with the multiplayer is probably the best bet and with activision still having the codes remaster of the WFC games would good for the brand especially with how reactivate keeps getting delayed putting the remaster out could buy time for them

I really doubt Microsoft wants to deal with a PR nightmare of "Hi Gamers, we're releasing a remaster of a sequel to an acclaimed game and only it's sequel. You won't understand certain story beats but don't worry, we promise we won't address and respect the original game."

This would take the most minimal effort to get these games available to new players again. A remaster wouldnt be necessary, just reactivate the old ports on the stores. Devastation was on Xbox One and PS4, FoC had a ps4 port and all 3 were on Steam. The only work needed would be porting WFC and multiplayer if they choose to revive it

I would honestly argue that War for Cybertron had the better multiplayer. Escalation was infinite, there was way more variety in play and better maps; and the PvP was so fun, each class could be brokenly OP in their own way, and each game was a rush. The only thing holding them back was hackers and game crashes.

Would love to see a brand new game in the Cybertron series. Would love to see a remake or a remaster. But I'd be happy if they just released them on the newer hardware as is. The Cybertron games are the best transformers games and would be stoked to just be able to play em on the newer consoles.

This or next year would be so perfect timing for a remaster of those games. We get an entire new movie based on Cybertrons war and how it started. We got Studio Series Gamer Edition which brings back the old game designs as new toys. There is a new Transformers anime at the horizon. There is a new game coming out on modern gen consoles. It feels like Transformers as a franchise is starting to stand up again as a general beloved medium. Missing out on those remasters would be such a wasted chance for Activision.

I really want to play FOC but with G1 Optimus Prime as an add-on. I never got to play with that since you had to pre-order the game for it, and I was 8 years old at the time when the game came out. So I’m really hoping that they bring back G1 Optimus.

Don't trust MS people words! Never! They spent the last years telling a lot of lies especially regarding the fate of Acti/Blizz games and studios (like,"uh the new Blizz game looks great!" and then they cancelled it a couple of months later) so I strongly suggest everyone to not hold their breath. Now this is only a rumor so could end well so it's positive because believe me if was an official statement by Spencer saying "we'd like to put old Transformers game back online" then we would be 100% sure that it wouldn't happen.

@@stijnVDA1994 To clear up the confusion, Fall of Cybertron received a native Xbox One version years ago. It was digital only and sadly got delisted in 2017 when the licenses expired. What you’re seeing on the store is the listing for the Xbox One version that is no longer available for purchase. It didn’t work with your disc because the Xbox 360 version was never made Backwardscompatible. It was a native port for the Xbox One. It was also available for PS4. Hope that clears it up a bit.

If this comes to pass and FoC gets a remaster/remake I really hope they they add more content to multiplayer and escalation, with escalation being more like the one in WfC. If I am honest I think WfC did escalation better, and in terms of replay value, the co op campaign has a lot of staying power, not to mention the support and the content that was added to the console versions of the game post launch.

I'm going to be honest. M$ is one of the last companies I want to touch these games. Let these games be free of M$, and by extension Activision, who pillaged High Moon Studios, and turned them into the CoD back up studio. All that needs to happen, is that these should be put on a service like GoG, DRM free, and preserved as they were.

I’ve been through this song and dance before. If Phil Spencer ain’t bringing the Cybertron games back from the dead then, why would things be different now? Even if, by divine intervention, they do bring back the game, it will most likely be a Battlefront Classic Collection style remaster, which can go horribly wrong. Frankly, the only way the Cybertron games and all the Activision TF games can come back is by relisting the games back on digital stores exactly the way they were, albeit, with a few minor tweaks like reviving the online servers.

In my opinion the second Beast Wars game was worse then Rise of the Dark Spark. I would actually say WFC has the better Multiplayer, FoC the better Campaign (WFC's Campaign was basically also Multiplayer technically), and I actually consider Rise of the Dark Spark to have the better Escalation mode, just for having Grimlock in it, with a different looking Shield. Does anyone else remember the difficulty of getting the no weapons achievement/trophy as Drift in Rise of the Dark Spark?

The listing on the digital stores don’t really mean anything, always been there. However, assuming these two projects aren’t cash-grabs (or hopefully new triple A games), I’m going to bet that two games are FoC and Devastation. Devastation should be the easiest of any of the games to be brought back, since no multiplayer obviously. And in recent times; games like MGR, DMC, Hi-Fi Rush, etc. have been successful, it would be a no brainer I suppose. And FoC has always had positive reviews and is considered to be the best transformers game in most people’s eyes. The Xbox One and PS4 ports were already done, so simply bringing back the servers and game itself wouldn’t be as hard as remastering WFC onto new gen consoles. Same can be said for rise of the dark spark, but the other two would make better sense to bring back.

I’ve always preferred wfc’s multiplayer. There were more abilities to choose from and the way FOC made the leader class an explosives only class made it not very fun to play as. I also remember WFC having a better challenge/commendation system that encouraged me to play as all classes, whereas in FOC I pretty much stuck to infiltrator

Well, if War for Cybertron comes back it be a remaster. I recently played on a pc and 360, and it shows its age. I have Fall of Cybertron on xbox and pc, and it still holds up. Xbox could just bring War for Cybertron to backward compatibility, and I will be happy since I have the physical version. They probably would do a remaster and put it on everything and not do a bundle and charge 60 dollars for it. Plus, it will probably be only digital. I think it should come out before Transformers One to get people hype for Transformers, but that is wishful thinking.
