How much heaver are they than a regular roller lifter?

Just bought a set of these. Rollers have a gritty feel when rolling with my thumb. Disassembled to inspect and every single one of them had metal shavings in them.

One of our clients bought a new set of roller lifters. He found some of them "sticky" when rolling the wheel with his thumb, so he washed them, blew air through them, and immersed them in oil. The cleaning fluid he used now had a lot of metal debris is it that was able to be picked up with a magnet.

Hey Mark Campbell from the Edelbrock group, I understand that you were the guys who knocked Crane Cams on the head ? How about putting the Crane Hydro & Solid Roller Lifters back into production as they were 10x better than anything Comp Cams has ever come out with. Seems Comp has taken the poor quality manufacturing business to a whole new level making things even worse with all your China product. While on the subject of Crane, I'd love to see the Gold Race Rockers put back into production as they were 20x better than any Comp Rocker ever forced upon the hot-rodding community. Please listen to your customers..!! We want quality products, not cheap imported Chinese products in a Comp box.

Absolutely wonderful video you guys! One thing I wish you guys would have touchpoint on with this new Evolution lifter is what is the weight in grams in comparison to previous lifter designs? We all know dynamic mass changes harmonics in the valve train. Are they heavier or they lighter than previous design?

Didn’t hear SBF in those options. And one concern,,, you’ve shrunk the port for less oil to enter the lifter to create a more solid effect,,, what does that do to the rockers oil supply?

New build, a Firebird with the 400 engine. Flat tappet hydraulic cam & lifter failure in less than 1,000 miles. After discussions with the client regarding the recent plague of flat tappet lifter failures, we went with a roller hydraulic upgrade. Two weeks later, the wheel on one of the lifters broke into two pieces, ruining the camshaft. This happened last May. The cam company said they'd have cam cores by November. Now, it's December and the don't know when they'll have cam cores. As for them doing anything about replacing the defective parts they sold us, they don't have someone who can make that decision. Dealing with a company such as that seems to be very risky lately.

I'm adding to my previous post regarding the failed parts in our Pontiac project. Comp Cams recently got in touch with us and resolved the issue, and I'm very grateful to them for the service. The past couple of years has plagued the industry with supply shortages for materials and we need to be patient. Thanks again Comp Cams.

I was in denial on why my comp lifters are making noise after 10k miles but I may have to replace as they have gotten very noisy on my mild 5.3 Silverado.
@thegobblerproject23632 жыл бұрын
Which lifters did you go with ?
@georgedonley55622 жыл бұрын
I found out it was not the Comp Cam lifters that caused the noise. The lifter trays were worn out and should have never been reused so that is my fault. I eventually had a lifter turn sideways and ate the cam. I installed a new Comp Cams camshaft and used Delphi LS7 lifters....with new LS7 lifter trays. Runs great and no lifter noise.

So this means that using theses lifters will turn any cam into a roller cam???
@onemoremisfit2 жыл бұрын
NO, because the lobes are shaped different. A flat tappet cam has a pointier lobe because it sweeps across the base of the tappet, which has the effect of increasing duration. If you put a roller lifter on a flat tappet cam it will never work. They did not make this product to convert anything, these are roller lifters for roller cams.

Best cams in the world!!! But their lifters are absolute garbage. I have two sets that both need replaced, and this is after sending three sets back to them because they literally could not be adjusted. One set of hydraulic rollers in 489 big block, and one set of the short travel lifters in a 434 dart small block, and they tick and clatter horribly no matter how they are adjusted... I will never buy a cam from anyone else, but I will also NEVER buy their lifters again!

I just went thru some bad lifters from Comp Cams myself, in a mild 5.3 LS1 truck engine. I went with the retro link bar #8957 lifters at first and they clack horribly. I tried 3 different length pushrods to no avail. They sounded OK on cold start but got really loud as the engine reached operating temperature. I have video of them running on my channel if anyone is curious. Comp Cams gave me an RA on them and I'm going to return them soon. They sent me a set of the link bar Evolutions as replacement, I had to pay for them, they said they will refund the others once they inspect them and determine for themselves they are bad. I had to wait 3-1/2 months to get the Evolutions due to supply chain issues. I just now got them swapped in. It took 15 hours of run-in time to get the new valve train to quiet down. The Evolutions are a lot quieter. They are not dead quiet, but at least they are acceptable. And the Evolutions also are quieter cold than when the engine is fully hot. I have video of the Evolutions running too if anyone is curious.

@@onemoremisfit I hope you have great luck with them. Mine are getting worse as I drive the car. Just over a hundred miles on them now and they are bad... I am going to bite the bullet and buy the Johnson short travel hydraulics. I will buy my cams from Comp, but no more lifters. I wish you the very best of luck!
@onemoremisfit2 жыл бұрын
@@kniteprince3798 The engineer in the video was talking like GM has some sort of production advantage making lifters that you can count on to run quiet. I think if these Evolution lifters don't settle in and run reasonably quiet for me, then I might just get a set of new stock units from GM and go with the plastic trays. My truck engine is mild and doesn't really need link bar lifters. I just thought they'd be an upgrade. I was unaware that Comp Cams has trouble with their lifters. As far as their cams go, I've been told that Comp makes cams for a lot of other brands, and that pretty much any brand that is worth anything is sourcing from Comp. But in this video even Comp's engineer is admitting they have trouble.
@kniteprince37982 жыл бұрын
@@onemoremisfit I worked for Chevrolet for several years. They do make good lifters. But you need to buy the dogbones and the hold down, plus your block needs the mount holes for that hold down... If your block is set up/machined for stock roller lifters that would be a good choice.
@onemoremisfit2 жыл бұрын
@@kniteprince3798 The bottom end is 100% stock. The whole engine was stock and I put a Whipple AXO supercharger on it some years ago. Then I decided to do a top end rebuild, I sent the heads out for CNC porting, put in a new oil pump, new crank seals, new barbell, and a bullet proof double row timing set. I selected a cam with a stock idle, mild duration and .05" more lift at the valve than stock. This is a truck engine, I just want it to be stronger than stock but it will never see more than 5000 rpm. I went with link bar lifters but I can easily revert back to the plastic trays because that's what it had to begin with. After this experience I can appreciate GM's wisdom of the stock setup, and if I have to tear the heads off for another lifter change I'll probably go back to stock. I had no idea that aftermarket lifters could be that bad. I figured you buy a new camshaft and you use lifters from the same company on that camshaft and you're good. Live and learn.
