Not sure if this is the best place to ask. Our LFS just got their Reef Nutrition order in today. I had them get me a bag of 1 million rotifers. I noticed the bag in the video the water was greenish. The bag my son received, the water was well brown and seemed to be filled a cloudy mess. Following the instructions on the sheet we received with the culture. We prepared a five gallon bucket with an air-stone. Acclimated the bag and dumped it in. Is the water in the bag sapose to be brown and cloudy? Not much movement in the bag.

I just got this kit to save myself the sickness of running around town for parts that are not available! Just reflecting (very frustrating when only a bucket is available) I was wondering how much do you add of that rg complete when first starting the bucket? One pipette?
@reefnutrition84423 жыл бұрын
We recommend that you feed 3 mls in the morning and 3 mls in the evening to start off with. You can increase the food if you want more rotifers.

Can the system be used for cultivation of pods? Something like Tig or Tisbe?

This unit is only applicable for rotifer culture. We have copepod culturing information on our website. Thanks for asking.

I bought the kit without the bucket or air pump as I have both already. However, my system does not bubble up like the one in this video. I do get some but not as much. Would that hinder the rotifers from staying alive or growing?
@reefnutrition84426 жыл бұрын
If you can't match the aeration seen in the video, we would suggest you purchase a more powerful pump. We recommend the Marina 200 from Hagen. You can buy it on chewy.com. www.chewy.com/marina-air-pump-aquariums-size-200/dp/128738 Good aeration is vital to a healthy, successful culture.

I see it’s recommended to feed 11ml/day. Should that be divided into 5.5ml twice a day or 3.4 three times daily? If I over feed what should I do?

@reefnutrition84425 жыл бұрын
@@davidchecinski5446 We recommend at least 3mls in the morning and 3mls in the evening every day. This applies for the first day of the culture and beyond. If you need more rotifers, simply increase the dose. 11mls of RGcomplete will produce 1 million rotifers per day at a 30% harvest rate, for example. Thanks for asking.

Aren't the rotifers sucked by the floss?
@reefnutrition84425 жыл бұрын
No. They pass through the floss. The material only traps organic waste and works better as it gets dirtier. Since rotifers have no rigid appendages and are mostly flexible by nature, they pass through the channels in the floss quite easily. Thanks for your question!

You’re better off with a regular old bucket and a sponge filter, that’s all it really is
@reefnutrition84425 жыл бұрын
@@chrishernandez9277 You have to be careful with sponge filters as they will strip out the algae from the water column resulting in the rotifers starving. The filter floss material allows phytoplankton to pass through while it accumulates the organic waste.
