You can turn the headlamp inside out, wrap it around a gallon jug filled with water and it really expands the light to fill the room.

I also have some safety glasses and a mask in my bag, a small bottle of water tucked into one outside pouch and a few pair of latex gloves stuffed into the other side patch. It's also a very lovely aquamarine color, just right for a girly bag that no one would think had any self-defense items in it. Gosh, I can't believe everything I have gotten into this really small sling bag.

You are spot on about the safety glasses. A tree limb can cause a major eye injury if your having to move quickly through the woods. Heck even slowly, especially at night.

My max oak big boy fell out of my Jeep and went unnoticed. It got hooked on my rear bumper and got dragged through about 11 miles of Jeep trails in the San Bernardino mountains in SO Calif. not a single tear . That was over 10 years ago and that bag still serves me daily. Great stuff for sure.

I just got my new Eberlestock Warhammer, I absolutely LOVE it! I also ordered 5 Maxpedition bags, 2 Jumbo Versipacks, 2 Fatboy GTG Versipacks and 1 Mongo Versipack. I've loaded up on alot of stuff within the last 3 weeks, I also went out today and purchased 45 gallons of gas and filled my gas tank up. Also went to Sportsman Warehouse and purchased 25 Jetboil fuel cans. Also been loading up on multiple Snugpak tents, Snugpak sleeping bags, Sea to Summit sleeping mats, Teton camp pillows, Snugpak camp blankets & Eno Proflys & Flexfly. Also purchased multiple new Garmin GPSMAP 66ST, 66SR, Rino 755t & Foretrex 601. Also multiple Motorola T801 radio units. And I have more stuff in route to me now, hope everyone is loading up. Get it while you can!

I have been meaning to set up a small bag such as this. I've got the bag, just need to get off my duff. Thanks for the tips (and the inspiration!) One tip I have learned is that any time you have batteries (especially AA or AAA batteries) in a flashlight or other equipment that may not be accessed very often, or are subject to temperature swings, avoid using the NiMh batteries, as they have a tendency to leak chemicals and ruin electronics. The newer lithium ion batteries (I have been switching mine out to Energizer Ultimate lithium) don't seem to have this problem. The last thing you want is to be in a situation where your emergency equipment is needed, only to find that it is unusable.

@Sensible Prepper, this is a great comprehensive video. I use my more compact sling bag which I call my grab and go bag way more often than my larger backpack that I keep in the cargo area of my kia. It doesn't have to have everything in it, is lighter, and I really can grab it and go, yet have my fire kit, a "get off me" device, pepper spray, a bag of organic turkey jerky from Trader Joe's, a Thru Nite fabulous flashlight courtesy of the Sootch00 Patreon channel, emergency cash, some miniaturized ID documents, a flash drive with information on it and a blank flash drive, and a fat package of bath wipes for staying clean, an extra pair of reading glasses, a compass and a multi-tool, a boo-boo kit, and a little notebook and pen. All of that fits in a sling pack that's smaller in area than a dinner plate. And you just reminded me about a headlamp. There's room for that and for some extra batteries. Now all I need is a tourniquet.

I've invested alot of money since then into different sized bags & packs, knives, flashlights, firearms and all sorts of other stuff too! I'm super glad I ran into channels like yours when I did and bought everything I need because its almost impossible to get a good firearm of your liking even less ammo nowadays with everything going on! Thanks for all the work you do Sootch!! May God bless you and your family!! 👍🙏

Hi Don, Great Video. Just a suggestion. I am sure you have heard the statment "Like Dissolves Like" Your Vasoline (a petrolem product) soaked cotton balls were sealed in a small Ziplock. The plastic Ziplock baggie is also a petrolem product. When you least expect it, maybe not right away, you will eventually have a gooey mess in your bag when the Vasoline eats its way through the Ziplock baggie, If I may suggest using a small / tiny aluminum pill container or tiny pico container from County Comm for your petrolem soaked cotton balls.

I carry very similar as my EDC on body and bag. The Phlster PEW and Flatpack TQ carrier with SOFTT-W, Rite in the rain, M2R Warrior, Leatherman Rebar, mini fixed blade, Bic and zippo are on body along with firearm and mag. In my bag is very similar setup which has a larger Trauma Kit with Gen 7 CATs, chest seals, pressure dressing, spare gloves and eye pro, fire steel, bic, and other basics like Nalgene bottle, OLight H2R headlamp and small Black Diamond Spot 325. I like some small Storacell cases in a ziplock for my AAAs, and Other batteries. This allows my headlamp to double runtime to finish a repair or setup a basic camp. Typically I do not carry any ammo or mags in bags for risk of forgetting larger cap mags or JHP ammo and accidentally traveling into NJ with them. This could result in a felony for 1 mag over 10. No one I know is carrying spare mags or ammo in a GHB or car kit for this reason. But that stuff is with the go bag, throw and go. No trouble in NJ either. I believe the tiered approach to everything, I have my EDC bag for urban area I'm in 90+% of the time, a GHB in my trunk with spare water and food for 2 people along with warm clothes, sleep gear. GHB and multiple person trauma kit, reflective vests, flares/triangles, fire extinguisher all stay in the truck. If I have to leave that behind I will grab the trauma kit parts and other basic to layer on the GHB. Then a larger kit at home. Having a background in medical, trauma etc. Is why my medical preps are much heavier than most people's, I also have a boo-boo kit for scratches, bumps bruises and blisters. OTC meds. But one thing highly overlooked with any terrain you may travel thats heavily wooded or if you end up with heavy debris in the air is dust dam eye pro. This can help you keep your vision. Reduces dust, some smoke and even branches from hitting your eye in the event you are moving in a hurry through wooded areas. One injury that could reduce your effectiveness to move, same with Mechanix gloves help with gravel sliding, climbing, or even moving through sticker brushes and 20 other work around debri. I keep s pair or 2 in my truck and my go bag. These are a lifesaver in the cold when the sun sets and temps drop Great break down on everything,I would only add a back up batter pack. I but Silcox wrench is something I keep forgetting to add to my kit especially in an urban area. Thanks!,

Ounces equal pounds, pounds equal pain. Ditch some of the extra redundancies and any extra pouches inside of the pack if you can. Add some water and quick food for the go. You won't make it far on foot without either on hand. Remember a bag like this is meant to get home or to base camp, bit for stopping to make a camp fire and spend the night. Its meant to keep going as far and fast as possible with short breaks in between.

One problem with the bag, you must use your right hand to open the zipper and then use your right hand again to reach for your firearm. Maxpedition makes bags so that a right hander can use their left hand to open the zipper and at the same time your right hand is ready to remove your firearm. The zipper is reversed from the bag in the video. Also I have always found the bag in the video to be a little small for CC; it is just a little too tight on the hand. Another bad thing about the Maxpedition bags is they are well made and neat looking; people notice them.

Adding a small zip tie around the button of the bic lighter prevents your lighter from losing its fuel and can be removed and replaced once zipped, clipping the extra length makes it a little sharp though can be filed to prevent cuts. Plus the adhesive sticker is also flammable, once you have a empty lighter if the wheel is removed slowly the springs can be made into a snare & fishing hook and the childproof metal can be removed and can also be made into a fishing hook.

*Sootch/Sensible* , I like the bag set-up - I have a 5.11 Push Pack - and I certainly don't pretend to be more of an expert than you, but I'd have to question why you have 3 flashlights and 4 ways to start a fire in this very compact bag. I get the whole "2 is 1 and 1 is none" thing, but it seems like you could get rid of a few of those (admittedly small) redundant items and add other "stuff". Not sure what... maybe a whistle? More medical (burn cream, bug bite/sting gel, alcohol wipes)? Tube with some extra cash? Even perhaps a pocket charger with iPhone (or Android) cable? Anyway... good stuff as always!

We Women think alike!! Good job. Rite in the Rain makes a great mechanical pencil as well.

pencil sharpeners are great for making quick fire tinder from pencil-sized twigs, too!

I have to pick up a new bag, my small EDC bag has a little ripping by the carry handle/shoulder strap. Very similar setup though, my blow-out kit is a separate pouch on the side of my bag, and I carry my TX22 with 50 extra CCI Mini Mags. Good video!
