A drone show would be cool. You can also simulate fireworks by installing a bunch of giant speakers that play large boom sounds if you really want to give people the explosion rush.

yeah but then it interrupts wildlife (mothers abandon their children thinking there's a catastrophe), scares pets and people with ptsd from wars. i'd rather hear music timed with the show :)

They can broadcast fm radio signals to spectator's (RF capable) wireless headphones for audio effects synced to the drone visuals. Or, a famiky can watch from their car with their FM radio tuned to the event. Music and loud bangs can be added without disturbing others.

How about VR fireworks so that everyone is supers-dupers safesez and no fragile feelings are hurt. All cry closets should be well stocked with binkies and crayons.
