Executives are increasing efforts to get workers back into the office with a combination of threats and incentives. Google is cracking down, while Salesforce is pledging donations to charity from June 12-23. #salesforce #google #shorts

Dont pretend the "$10 donation to charity" is generosity. Salesforce already marked 250,000 dollars reserved for charity, so what they actually threaten is to take away $10 for every day an employee doesnt cone to work. The effect is the same, but the process is much scummier.

My coworkers and I had to come to the office to do our jobs. I got sick and couldn’t even get tested, at that point it was taking 7 weeks to get test results. Seems melodramatic to say this now but I had a will prepared. There were at least 3 that got really bad cases of COVID. And even more when Omicron hit. Once we got the vaccines I was told my services were no longer required. This despite the fact we were understaffed and the dept lead was begging them not to end my contract. @@Uncleduncledinklecrunkle It does negatively affect you. Transit cost gas and time, both are expensive. And promoting a sedimentary life? That's subjective, because you can always work out at home or go out to the gym. You don't need to drive to work to get exercise(driving is just sitting in a chair, then you're going to likely be sitting at your office anyway.). It benefits you not at all to be in the office versus doing the work at home. If it's not for you, it's not for you, but don't be acting like your perspective is the be all. Some people have a hard time focusing at home or doing their work there or wish for their home to be complete separate from work mentally. So if you don't want to work from home, that is fine, but others are completely justified in wishing to do so if their job can be completed without leaving their home. Why should they care if the work is still getting done? Because it's not about that, it's about controlling how people live their lives when it has nothing to do with them.

A big reason why come companies want people to come back to office is because of real estate. If they bought a complex for employees to work in and it’s valued to be 100 million because of potential traffic. Businesses that provide food and convenience will open up because people will come to them during their break time because they may have no other choice. Now, people staying home deteriorates the value of the real estate around those businesses and basically funnels all the money back to suburbs where most employees live. Hence, it’s completely illogical for companies to allow employees to stay working from home unless they want to lose out on a lot of money.

I now WFH where all I have to focus on is doing the work well without all the extra stuff. Also when I do go to the office, I still sit at a desk all day doing the same work I do while I am home. This false narrative that workers are more productive in the office is non-sensical. Just think about it, like really just logically think about it. I wake up, get ready, quickly grab coffee from kitchen, take a few steps to my home office and begin working vs wake up, get ready, get in the car, be on alert commuting dodging accidents for an hour, find a parking spot, walk to the building, elevators stop by kitchen to grab coffee, say good morning to folks, and then sit to finally begin working. Like stop, the people are not stupid and know RTO is about something else and not productivity.

Well, yeah. During the pandemic workers have seen inflation rising, company profits rising, cost of living rising, CEO wages rising...you know what isn't rising at the same rate? Employee wages. You can look up the details yourself. Do you really think any CEO worked 1.7 million times harder than their employees during the pandemic? They've been crying about higher costs and how "no one wants to work" despite tons of people showing how they only get contacted by the tiniest fraction of the places they applied to. These people aren't convicted criminals and are qualified and yet not even a call back. The cost of everything has been steadily increasing using the pandemic as an excuse, and people are tired of working their asses off for wages that don't even pay for them to live in the same city as their offices. In general, workers aren't slacking; they are simply no longer going above and beyond their pay. If a company wants us to return to office at this point, they need to pay wages high enough to live within the same city, or they need to pay for the long commute from the places where people could actually find affordable housing. It doesn't have to be this way. Before we were sold the lie of Reaganomics where wealth would trickle down to us, CEOs made closer to 40 times the wage of their lowest paid employee, because they were incentivized to put the money earned back into the business so they didn't have to pay the income taxes on it. This isn't just how life is. The current economic situation was engineered to be this way, and somehow they've convinced a great deal of people that we deserve to be used like this. "Billionaires have seen extraordinary increases in their wealth. During the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis years since 2020, $26 trillion (63 percent) of all new wealth was captured by the richest 1 percent, while $16 trillion (37 percent) went to the rest of the world put together. A billionaire gained roughly $1.7 million for every $1 of new global wealth earned by a person in the bottom 90 percent. Billionaire fortunes have increased by $2.7 billion a day. This comes on top of a decade of historic gains -the number and wealth of billionaires having doubled over the last ten years. "

And since remote working wasn't a major issue before 2019 and most bureaucrats and attorneys who work for cities/states are third-stringers who have public jobs because they aren't talented enough for the private sector, it's doubtful they crafted subsidy agreements to give the city/state a solid out.

I'm not sure if employees are in a position of power in this scenario. If work from home becomes normalized and your physical presence is no longer needed, corporations will start offshoring office jobs to take advantage of lower pay. The only reason why these corporations even hire Americans is because of our physical proximity to corporate HQ, not because we have magical properties that make us better than other countries. Once tech companies complete their transition to work from home, Silicon Valley companies will stop hiring Californians and find cheaper labor out of state, and then eventually hire outside of America all together.

Wrong, American employees provide American markets. If a company wants to make billions of dollars in the greatest economy after China, they HAVE to employee Americans and be present in America. If they off shore all the work, they won’t be able to take advantage of being in the market since the government wouldn’t recognize them and they can’t do business here. Otherwise, they’ll have to pay insane tariffs for being an outsider, which just isn’t worth it.

Offshoring isn’t that simple - if you think keeping tabs on American workers is hard wait until you try to keep tabs on workers half way round the world, for a Different culture and language.

because offshoring jobs to china worked out so well, after they copied most of the tech we shipped over there...

Managers are hopefully smart enough not to be goaded by a random TikTok. If productivity is not hurt (a big if, granted) then there’s no need return to office.

My Dad works from Home on Occasions (He’s like loss prevention so sometimes he does and doesn’t work from home) But I’d usually say he seems pretty happy when he works from home.

This "return to office" thing is actually companies trying to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. These companies own a lot of currently unoccupied office space that they would like to put to use again because it would be impossible to sell while breaking even and is expensive to maintain. Also, many of these companies are trying to downsize their workforce but laying people off is expensive. Forcing people back to the office helps that office space get put to good use again, and the people that don't return will just quit, helping that company save a killing in severance packages and unemployment payments

As a homeowner? I'd actually pay just to have a pro on call to walk through some of the trickier parts without a full service fee for coming out. 😂
