I've been using energizer lithium batteries loyalty for years now. They do honestly pay off in the long run. It's crazy how long they'll last. I know a remote is a bad example because they last forever in general but my son's tv I bought him in 2012 still has the the same two energizer lithium aaa batteries.

Ray-O-Vac used to be the cheap competition for Eveready, interesting that they have now been bought out by the latter. When buying Duracells, check where they are made. American-made Duracells (and I think European-made ones) last, but the ones made in China (even with legit Duracell trademarks) wear out in a few days.

I bought a big pack of Rayovac a few years ago because it was a lot cheaper and I just assumed all batteries are basically the same. I was wrong. They were noticeably awful and did not last anywhere near as long as Duracell or Energizer. It's worth it to spend the extra money, or better yet buy rechargeable instead. They have improved quite a bit over the years. Eneloop work pretty well.

I remember a few of these happening. You would start out with a commercial, sometimes even an already known one, and then the "Energizer Bunny" would come into it. Very interesting ad campaign. But I still trust Duracell more. Have literally had Energizer flashlights fail when needed, and then switched to Duracell. Would never go back, regardless of silly marketing.

What made the Energizer Bunny so memorable when they first started using it was that it would "break into" other commercials. The clip you showed alluded to it. It was "escaping" the set. Then same block, another ad would play (for a fake product) that was interrupted by the bunny. It was fairly novel and made the Energizer rabbit iconic in the states. Before that, Energizer used an Australian bodybuilder named Jacko. We were going through an Australian phase at the time.

I grew up in Mexico and I vividly remember a time when both the Energizer and Duracell pink bunnies were being featured simultaneously in their respective commercials. Being so close to the US and yet often not quite considered as part of North America, I'm guessing that for a time Mexico was a bit of a grey area when it came to their mascot's trademark. Been living in the US for many years now so I don't know what the situation is now. Still, it was interesting living in a time and a place where both mascots where directly competing and leaving a younger me wondering who was ripping off who.

On the subject of the bunnies...what made the Energizer Bunny stand out, initially, was the marketing campaign showing the E-Bunny breaking into commercials of other, at first, fictional products/brands, and eventually even real products/brands. The E-Bunny doesn't really do that anymore, but I remember talking about this brilliant marketing scheme in my high school marketing class the (school) day after the first E-Bunny commercials were broadcast. What made the E-Bunny so popular was that it would just show up so randomly.

Back through the '90s and into the early part of the 21st Century, I was part of Duracell's R&D efforts. - Definitely the second best job I've ever had. The Battery/Packaged Power business is very competitive, and is constantly churning. There's a lot of scrutiny on advertising claims, and various performance characteristics will seesaw back and forth between the manufacturers for superiority. (By the way, validation of claims is done by independant laboratories, although our own work would give us the qualitative results. We would not inform the independants about our results) I'll not get into the technical discussions here, but I'll add a few points - The Private Labels are, for the most part, produced by the Big Three (Now Big Two) on their normal production lines. There's an interesting synergy between batteries and razors - Manufacturing. Processes differ qute a bit, of course, but both markets have a lot of churning, and the ability to manage changes in manufacturing methods and including upgrades requires a particular set of manufacturing skills to be able to quickly and flexibly retool. And, a Bunny Comment - We noted, in the mid-90s, that whenever nergizer came up with a new commercial, our sales increased. Our watchword was "They have better commercials, we have better batteries."

5:29 the difference between carbon batteries and alkaline is that alkaline will supply a substantial amount of current at the same voltage per cell. This means brighter lights, faster photo flash recharging....remember cameras were a thing back then and the electronic photo flashes almost required an alkaline battery. @@j.andrebest2781 It's definitely worth investigating at least. In my personal experience, I've seen all types of batteries leak, but duracell batteries leak almost 10:1 over other batteries that I've used. Also, when most batteries leak, you get a little corrosion on one end. But with duracell's, I've seen a higher likelihood of dramatic, destructive leaking where the battery ends up deeply caked in place. It would be interesting to run an experiment.

Don't you mean DUOPOLY? A Monopsony is where there is only 1 buyer and many sellers and a Oligopsony is where there are only a few buyers (e.g. 2 is normally the case) and many sellers so in a Job market the largest employer in town employs 2000 people then they are a monopsony if the town's economy heavily relies on people employed at this company, with an oligopsony just add a few more companies. A Duopoly is where there are only 2 sellers or only 2 companies hold at least 80%-90% market share and many buyers (i.e. consumers buying batteries from either Duracell or Energiser. In your case of how PepsiCo and Nabisco own most of the foods you eat would be a Duopoly (assuming their market share is >80%) else they're an oligopoly with other companies coming in distant 3rd and 4th place.

There is a whole story behind the British Ever Ready Electrical Company who sold "Ever Ready" batteries and torches in the UK. They were related to the American Eveready in the early days. Imagine making a video about energizer and not mention how they were behind the *death of over 16,000 people* and never apologized for it. Energizer(Union Carbide) was behind one of the world's worst industrial disasters that claimed the lived of over 16,000 innocent men, women, and children. (Look up "Bhopal Gas Tragedy") On the night of December 2, 1984, an accident at the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, released at least 30 tons of a highly toxic gas called methyl isocyanate, as well as a number of other poisonous gases. The pesticide plant was surrounded by shantytowns, leading to more than 600,000 people being exposed to the deadly gas cloud that night. The gases stayed low to the ground, causing victims throats and eyes to burn, inducing nausea, and horrendous deaths. Toxic material remains, and 30 years later, many of those who were exposed to the gas have given birth to physically and mentally disabled children. @Owen Yin Weren't flashlights originally torches that flashed light, like in lighthouses? Torch certainly far predates flashlight since a torch has been used as a word for something that carries light at least since Shakespeare. Meanwhile, the word flashlight only came around once batteries were invented. I think it's the same story as bag vs back pack, capsicum vs bell pepper, aubergine vs egg plant. The newer, American word is the non-unique one, meaning it comes from a country where people don't know the name (due to immigration) so they just describe it.

@Owen Yin I'm not attempting to bash Americans on the fact Americans use descriptive words rather than unique ones. I'm saying it makes sense that Americans would call a device that flashes light a flashlight. As for torch, I doubt the word wasn't used, a torch is an object that is handheld and emits light. It makes total sense that the business would name their invention a flashlight, but a flashlight is literally an electronic torch. As in, a handheld device that emits light electronically. It makes sense that the British English speaking world would call it a torch because that's what it is. Meanwhile, I guess the US and it's love of patents and intellectual property prefers brand names.

To quote underrated classic Grosse Pointe Blank: "Martin, it's a terrible dream! It's a depressing dream to dream about that rabbit. It's got no brain, it's got no blood, it's got no anima! It just keeps banging on those meaningless cymbals, and going and going!"
