Coke Zero was amazing. Every other diet soda had an off taste, and it was so close to Coca Cola and many people I knew, people that were Pepsi drinkers that needed to cut out the HFCS, started to drink Coke Zero. The fact that Diet Coke and Coke Zero can both exist at the same time is remarkable.
@kimyona9746
@kimyona9746 Жыл бұрын
Because the aspartame taste of diet coke has a following but many people didn't like diet coke, but the same amount of people do. So when they made coke zero, it was successful because those that like diet coke like diet coke and those that didn't like it would get either regular or coke zero. I prefer diet coke but coke zero is good too. I know some people that get both diet and zero. Which is pretty cool. Since they both have followings, they exist together.

There's a Coca-Cola game for the Sega Game Gear called "The Coca-Cola Kid." It featured Japan's mascot for the drink. He was this extreme sports character who looked very 90s. Sega even took things a step farther and released Coca-Cola-themed Game Gear handhelds exclusively for Japan. And before anybody asks: Yes, I know that Pepsi was also big in Japan and they had the Pepsi Man mascot, who also had a game.

They are one of the biggest, if not the biggest, consumer staples companies in the world. They're only smaller than the large tech firms and some health care companies. I knew Coca-Cola was involved in many beverages that we grew up with and love (Sprite, Minute Maid, Fanta, and, of course, their namesake beverage, colloquially known as Coke), but I never knew they were also involved in the entertainment industry, once owning Columbia Pictures (which, as mentioned in this video, is now owned by Sony). Love the mention of the Columbia acquisition! As a pinball repair technician, that even had an impact in the pinball/arcade industry. Back in the 30's, there was a pinball company called Gottlieb, which was acquired by Columbia in the 70's, but still used the Gottlieb name (with a Columbia sticker on the coin door). When Columbia was acquired by Coca-Cola, the pinball machines were then branded as "Gottlieb by Premier" (Premier being the name used by the Coca-Cola/Gottlieb union) until they went under in 1996.

You forgot one big Christmas advertisement: "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Yes, this children's classic that has been an annual tradition for over 6 decades was originally commissioned by Coke. The original version of the special contained several ads for Coca Cola. An example is after Charlie Brown is whipped into a tree by SNoopy that reveals the words "A Charlie Brown Christmas", Linus would be whipped into a signe that read "brought to you by those in your town who bottle Coca Cola" The ending with the kids singing would end with "Merry Christmas from those that bottle Coke. Coca Cola ads would eventually be cut out after Coke stopped being the official sponsor. The irony of all this was that the entire special was about anti-commercialism while created by a commercial enterprise.

Pepsi and Coke would be a great video for a rivalry. Their sports feud should be a big focus as well, as both had big time deals with drivers in NASCAR as well as race sponsorships and then the fact Coca-Cola has virtually run Pepsi off in NASCAR while Coke has limited outreach in the NFL due to the NFL having an official deal with Pepsi

Coca-Cola lent its brand to a Cold-War movie comedy: "One-Two-Three," in the early 1960s. It was about a Coca-Cola executive in "West" Berlin, played by actor James Cagney . . . back then Germany was divided due to the communist east . . . to make points with his boss, was looking after his boss's daughter, whom got involved with a young communist guy from the east. That movie was shown many times on US TV in the 1960s, but for some peculiar reason, hasn't been seen on the US TV screens for decades . . . strange, given that it was one of Cagney's last major film roles before going into retirement.

@@tomr6955 That's all fine and well, the difference in fizzyness is definitely there. Flavor can vary from can to can or bottle to bottle so that's a different argument entirely. I don't think plastic sacrifices a ton of flavor or anything but in terms of fizz, it's a huge difference.

Having lived in Italy for a while it's strange to me to see that almost any coca-cola variation was absent from the market until few years ago. I think that in the '90 and 2000 the only Coca-cola variation was the light version. When I was a kid I didn't even like the taste of it, and in birthday parties I was one of the few drinking Fanta (also here only orange version was available) and the ones drinking Sprite pure weirdos.

The funniest thing I remember from the early days of the pandemic were all of the shelves in the water aisle being completely barren except for a ton of crates of Dasani just sitting in the corner untouched. Even during what feels like the end-times, people still wouldn't drink that crap lol. Not sure what it is about Dasani and Powerade but they both have a really bitter aftertaste. I'm surprised Dasani is doing well and not surprised at all that Powerade is struggling.

9:50 Fun Fact: Powerade was NOT in fact introduced in 1988, it was introduced in 1990 to a limited fountain drink market without being sold in stores as bottled beverages. They started selling them in bottles in 1992 during the 1992 Olympic Games. I still have no idea where people get the 1988 info from. Just about everyone says it without any sources backing it up. It's one of the many mysteries we'll never solve. But there is actual sources showing it came out in 1990. I'd post it but my comment wouldn't be posted for having a link. It's in the UPI archives for March 5th 1990. Anyways, I'm just a big fan of Powerade so I thought I should clear that up! Of course, nobody will see this comment. But, y'know. I'm bored.

Fun fact: Barq's makes more than regular root beer. I first found this out when I was on vacation and visited the WW2 museum in New Orleans. In the food court next to the gift shop they had one of those open air fridges and inside were plastic bottles of Barq's Red Creme Soda in it, and during that whole trip I never found it anywhere else. Other than that, I have never seen another variety of Barq's, not even Barq's diet root beer.

Another fun fact: Coca-Cola presence in Asia market is so big, it eclipsed main rival Pepsi. So big in fact, in the country Indonesia, one of the biggest countries in Asia, and South East Asia's leading beverage market. It managed to kick Pepsi out of the market completely. Now come the fun fact, it forced KFC, second only to McDonalds as the biggest fast food brand in that country, and a longtime Pepsi loyalist, to use Coca-Cola products instead. Otherwise the restaurants will have no beverages to sell.
