The Compaq DL380 Gen1 is now 19 years old. I have had mine for about 13 years. The last 10 Years it has not been turned on,, so what will happens when I turn it on.
The Dl380 Gen1 was the only true Compaq dl380, already from the Gen2 was an HP server, though it had an HP logo, it was called "Compaq ProLiant DL380 G2" probably to not scare away the loyal compaq fans. The Gen2 still with Pentium III processors but now it was a 2U server and up to 1.4GHz of clock speed.

Even just 1$ a month, comes out to the same as Binge-watching like 400+ of me Videos every month.
My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

Great video, and a bit of a trip down memory lane for me! I loved working on these old Compaq Proliant servers, they were easy to maintain and everything just worked. Used to work on the previous Proliant generation(s) of these the 1850R. The 6400R became the DL580 series (and looked pretty much the same from the front). The iLO cards were great too. Used to carry the ole Compaq wallet with all the setup CDs (there were a fair few!).

I wanted to say thank you! You probably won't see this, but I love the video - especially because I like HP servers the best! Been watching you on and off for two years, you got me to buy my first DL380 G7 2 years ago, now I have a full server room of machines running a high performance cluster using vCenter Server! --2TB ram, 28TB SAN (Hardware Raid 5 with hot spares, striped data stores across multiple machines), 644 processing cores (Xeon Phi coprocessors and cpus, excluding hyper threading), 2x NVIDIA Tesla GPU's, 10gig SFP+ networking. All in a cluster of 5 machines I got off ebay for less than $3000!! My gaming laptop cost half that!! Currently running a DL380, DL580, DL585, and a custom built Xeon box for the Tesla GPUs and vCenter Host. Just got a **DL980** off ebay for less than $600! (256GB Ram, 8-8core Xeon, 8x 300GB 15K SAS) Biggest beast I've ever seen and makes my inner nerd so very happy! (You can snag these for amazing deals off ebay. The servers are EOL for most remote management (iLO) and integrated network stuff, just buy a third party network card with supported drivers and you're good to go in a home environment. Just be careful, the VMware software to cluster them together literally costs more than the hardware itself, just watch out! - ESXi + vCenter Server + VMware Workstation (optional)) - Certified IT Professional and Professional Nerd.

Nice to see that, my first real workstation was a Pentium III Katmai CPU at 600 Mhz in the early 2000's. I had a Tyan Tiger 100 board with two slots like that server. I remember you had to do some kind of weird configuration in Windows 2000 to get both processors to work. This was before most consumer applications supported SMP so you could go into Task Manager and assign an application to use a certain processor. I'd usually put Photoshop on the second processor, so I could run that at full load and run WinAmp and everything else on the first processor. That setup worked very well for a long time. I eventually sold that board and CPUs on eBay, I recall the buyer messaged me that he had been looking for those CPUs as the Katmai line had 512KB cache which were at the time more sought after by enthusiasts than the PIII Coppermine units which only had 256KB cache. Looking at wikipedia I had either the SL3JM or the SL3JT.

One day the system will be working fine the next very sluggish and ghosting because one of the cache modules quit. Or cpu quite working all together with a blank screen. Usually fixed with a hard reset or new cpu. I would very much recap the board especially the cpu capacitors because of the dodgy cache i/c's. After 10 years I'm sure they are pretty dry.

hy HP is not HPE the Company is divided in 2015 / 2016 HP = printer, pc,Notebook etc. xerox will buy HP printer parts, but hpe printer is the try lab from Canon.. HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise ) = server, storage, switch.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 4 жыл бұрын
Well in my book HPE stands for Hardware Protected Employment,, they keeps the technicians busy. :-) The Server, Storage, network division at Lenovo is called LenovoDCG, (DataCenter Group) I also do not use that. And then a HPE Server brakes,, the "E" disappears and you get better services on a vacuum cleaner.
