It would’ve been really nice to hear a little bit about the silver ceramic one. There was nothing at all said about that one. It would be nice to hear about maintenance and anticipated working life of each of these as well. At a time when everything is pricier, and some things are just not possible to get, such as in the pandemic which we’re not quite through yet, stores have been shut down, in particular stores that did not sell food. Getting filters would’ve been a problem for anybody who had a disposable filter, or one that could not be simply painted and pressed back into service. Sir, would you do another video, speaking about the proper maintenance and Working life of each of these filters, please?

Wow, you guys have really put a lot of thought into your products. Definitely very impressed, even if i might not immediately purchase your larger models. I did get a D-Stil Lite just now, so depending how that works out, i might also get the GRAVI-Stil. I used to own one of those electric distillers from Amazon, but after three years the electric switch burned out. Obviously, that's not very sustainable, even if I did manage to repair it. The multiple heat source aspect of your products appeal to me.

Love ! Love ! Love ! my Doulton ceramic countertop water filter ! Easy to use. Easy to clean. We get brown water here in Ithaca, NY whenever our water supply runs lowish in the hot summer months (feed by a stream from the surrounding mountains)---manganese is the issue I believe. Doulton takes care of it! Lovely, clear water with no fuss.

Sadly, there isn't a state in the US with water that passes as fit for human consumption by international standards with lead being the biggest culprit. The EPA, supposedly independent, spends a lot of money lobbying to prevent tightening of rules, which the last administration did. For the record, I am non political and don't even live in the US, I just keep my finger on the pulse with certain issues.

Impressive video! Thanks for going through them all. I’m already going berkey for drinking but what would you recommend for showers and washing clothes during SHTF
@4570Govt3 жыл бұрын
Bathing can be done in regular hose water. Cooking water ideally should be filtered as if you'd be drinking it, but if you can't get it that clean. Clothes washing should be the last thing you use any water for if water is in short supply. Honestly, having done long distance hiking(7+ nights, 100+ miles), I bring 1 change of undies and a spare shirt on most hikes. I'd rather pack more food than clothing. If I'm hiking near a lake or stream, I'll bring a vinyl "soft bucket" with me for washing clothes with. NEVER wash your clothes in a body of water with antibacterial soap. Take a bucket of water out of the lake/stream/river and wash on ground. Don't contaminate the stream with soap runoff. It will kill the good bacteria that helps maintain the ecosystem :-)
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
Living in what sounds like colder climes to you, Scotland, I always wear Merino as a base layer, which, of itself, has antibacterial properties, but it's a Merino mix, ensuring further antibacterial benefits, so they require washing every four or five days, which saves time and effort, but, as you say, sooner water for drinking and cooking than than laundry concerns.
@beverlyaten17752 жыл бұрын
@@billyandrew do I understand you wear merino wool next to your skin? I live in sub tropics, so I am clueless. It gets just below freezing about maybe 7 to ten days a year here, if that. Is it scratchy? Do you have a softener to wash it with?

Marian, The filter will turn the color of what ever is in the water being removed. Example: High iron in the water will turn it red. You can take a scrub pad or sand paper to rough up and clean the outside of the filter. Remember the outside doesn't need to look clean for that is where all the things you don't want in your water get caught. They do not pass through the filter to the clean water side. Just looking at all of these, something came to mind. I would think the dome would be better and last longer than the candle style, because the whole thing sits lower in the water. A candle is going to clog more toward the bottom and less toward the top as the water drains out, so the lower and wider the better. Yes, no?
@johndickson4352 жыл бұрын
Well doesn't the dome sit in the bottom two ?
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
The candle has more filtering surface than the dome, so I would assume the dome clogs quicker, ergo requires cleaning more often, however, the dome is a better fit for smaller, maybe wider, containers.

I just bought a Berkey system a few months ago and hate it. I purged it as per instructions, and ran at least 10 gallons of tap water through it.... the taste is worse than the tap. It has almost an oily smell and taste. I even ran 1 gallon of vinegar through it, with slight improvement. Since I already have the housing, I think I want to switch out the filters to yours, can you confirm that your filters will not have this same problem?

Aside from Berkey, AquaGear was the only one claiming to filter fluoride when I did my initial search years ago, and AquaGear has recently discontinued that feature. Making my own filter system appeals to me, so I'd like to know if there is a filter you recommend?

I'm also interested in removing fluoride. My little research has led me to find that add on filters ie for berkey or doulton etc that remove fluoride do so using a media that contains or utilises aluminium. So yes removes or reduces fluoride but at the cost of aluminium (not good). It seems to be kept quiet by berkey etc... and not immediately obvious to someone wanting a flouride removal filter. doulton don't even mention what the fluoride removing media is inside there fluoride filter but likely aluminium. I have heard that a possible natural solution is Tulsi plant or holy basil leaves as they apparently leach the fluoride out of water. If the filtered water was able to have these leaves soaking in it for a certain time it may help to naturally remove or lower the fluoride. Would need to test properly to confirm

Off grid or power down, don't you think a mechanical way would be better?..Shrader valve- same on car tires. threaded into top lid...As the water goes down, you will loose some pressure, so just give it a couple more pumps of air..done..

the problem with using air pressure is this: once more than one third of the filter is exposed the air passes through the filter faster than the water. all that air passing through the carbon filter dries the crud . making it more difficult to clean off.
