I have the Monoprice/Stage Right 15. Loaded it with a WGS Blackhawk Alnico 12" (not a fan of the Celestion 70/80) and made a huge difference. Played around with a few speakers I had around and anything was better then the 70/80 IMO. I have also run it through my 2x12 cab w V30s and delivers a huge sound. I use it as my drag and play amp (not worried about getting scuffed up). Just a good all around amp.

For an inexpensive little tube amp, the Monoprice isn't bad. That said, with hindsight being 20/20, I do wish I had saved up and bought a higher quality amp (not specifically referencing the Monoprice) when I first jumped into tube amps. Don't know if that helps anyone considering a purchase.

I dig my monoprice. Got it by ordering through WalMart in Canada. Great price, sounds super. It is not trying to be the Vox, and that’s cool, it’s a fine tube amp. The .5 watt setting a bonus for a practice amp.

I use the mono price as a head running a separate cab via the speaker out in the back, sounds pretty good that way. I’m not a big fan of the stock speaker but I’ve seen people get much better results with a speaker swap, but the cab itself is just cheap and boxy. it is well worth the money though if you’re just gonna use it as a head.
@francoreia81479 ай бұрын
I have one, I removed it into a head. Felt the speaker distorted the reverb. Have couple eminence speakers and also a mojotone that love best as a single h series, now more than ever I want a vox with effects loop. Also have a Rebel 20 the first one love that one more. I want a vox 20 watts or less. Thankyou for your show demonstrations

I’m thinking of getting a monoprice amp to run side by side with my AC15. Two amp setups rock, and it’s cool you did this side by side with both of them.
@jeffberg80159 ай бұрын
I believe that there is a lot less difference between any amps when played clean than when played high gain. When clean these two amps were almost interchangeable, but the Vox shined at high gain. I suspect the biggest difference between the two is the speakers in them. The Seventy 80 in the Stage Right really is a budget speaker while the Alnico Blue is much more high end. I'm sure this accounts for a decent chunk of the price difference between them. I own the Stage Right and have been mostly happy with it since I usually play pretty clean, but I am planning to eventually buy a 2x12 cab with upgraded speakers to use with it.

Nice to have this comparison. The Monoprice amp is a good little rig for its value but the Vox has more tonal definition. In the end, not bad for a budget amp against a reputable brand.

The Mono on here does sound "muffled and boxy" for lack of a better way to put it. But I have one myself, and you really have to max out the Tone knob and the Treble knob to make it feel more open and dynamic, right there I see the knobs for Tone and Treble are only about 45% up. While this is fair for showing a quick sample, you really need to spend time with the amp to learn it. And personally, I'd easily buy the monoprice one again, its so solid!
@UncleAshGuitarZone-v6gАй бұрын
@@gabbette7 For my personal preferences and purposes the SR15 is superior to the AC15 - and I absolutely love the AC15, it's one of my all time favorites. ... The SR15 has the ability to go from clean to high gain in ways the AC15 simply can't. While AC15 has more headroom and is a better clean amp the SR15 is more like an old tweed Fender deluxe in that it really wants to break up and it does so in a very sweet classic way. This makes it a much better edge of breakup amp tonally than the AC15 in my view. I am a classic rock/blues rock/southern rock guy and the SR15 is an outstanding amp for doing that stuff in environments where you can crank up the traditional amps used for such genres.

Loved that amp - and I could carry it - Unlike its replacement a Fender Twin reverb. Almost as heavy as a 4x12. Now have the Harley Benson tube 15 and happy with it, both in terms of tone, when dialled in, and weight. A winner for me. Early days I had a Vox AC 10 twin. 2 x 10" Fane speakers. Man, that Mono sounds sad! Not really a fair comparison, being the Vox has the Celestion blue, one of the most expensive speakers you can buy, and the Mono has the 70/80, not a great speaker. In my Mono I changed out the speaker for the Weber Blue Dog ceramic 30 watt, installed TungSol power tubes and JJ preamp tubes with a 5751 in v1, which gave it more headroom and tamed the amp hiss. Also changed the reverb tank to a 3 spring Mod.I love this amp now! I paid 179.00 delivered and with upgrades I’ve paid a total of 390.00 - about half the cost of a new Blues Junior! I think the Vox ends up making the Mono sound worse than it probably is. I don't need another amp, but if I did, I'd spend the extra $ on the Vox. I'm currently living with the consequences of buying a bunch of inexpensive import guitars during covid. The lesson I learned is, one $1500 guitar is almost always better than two $750 guitars. The $1500 guitar will get played far more than the two $750's combined. Despite what GearTube often believes, you're not just "paying for the branding". I have a shitload of cheap guitars I don't play and can't sell. My Gibson's and USA Fenders are still the guitars I reach for. Just sayin... Thank you for attending my TED Talk.
