I check out Nissan's 350Z Fairlady prototype for the first time & compare it against the new 400Z prototype that we looked at in person for the first time yesterday! This gives us a good idea of how much Nissan may still change with the current 400Z prototype!

The reason Z31 is automatic is because it is hard to find a clean manual in the US like realy hard. Most of the manuals have been beaten to absolute shit

This is filmed in Japan, but i would say its hard to find the z31 clean in manual "the world over"

The skyline line started out as a luxury car when it was being produced by Prince Motors. Before they were acquired by Datsun/Nissan. Then Datsun made them sportier and less luxurious with the gtr, gtst, rs, and other variants. During the 2000s they decided to split the skyline from the gtr line, and turn the skyline back into a luxury car again.

I remember when i was a little kid one of my uncles in the Philippines owned a Prince Skyline, i just can't remember if it was a rhd or lhd one tho.

The gtr only came out in the 70s with the emergance of the hakosuka, but it died down in the r30 and r31 line. It only returned when the r32 flatform.

Dominic Bustamante I would refute that comment and say Prince made the skyline the sporty car it is today. Prince created the first performance version of the skyline called the gtb, even when Nissan acquired Prince they still allowed Prince to work independently developing the skyline up until the r34 gtr.

The reason the concepts are LHD is because the Nissan Design America office is in San Diego California. I am from San Diego and went there on a high school field trip in 2001. In the late 90s Nissan was working to develop a turbocharged 240SX for 1997. The project was cancelled and the test was given to my high school auto shop without the turbo equipment. Some years later students put the turbo stuff back on. It was cool having a kouki S14 as a high school shop car in the early 2000s. The 1999 Concept Z is missing from the lineup of the 1997 and 2001 concept Zs on display. The 50th AE Z31 were everywhere a few years ago, seemed like a lot of people thought they would be valuable. The S30 Z shown is the Z432 which had the same S20 engine as the Hakosuka GT-R. 432 stood for 4 valves, 3 carburetors, and 2 camshafts. The Nismo section seems to be missing the Z33 Nismo 380RS. Only 300 were built. VQ35HR increased displacement to 3.8L, forged internals, better cams, tuned ECU, Brembo brakes, and suspension upgardes. I never knew the 1997 Z concpet was based on an S14 240SX. Keep up the great content SAMMIT

The silver/black two tone is a 280zx and is the s130 chassis number. The orange 240z is the s30 chassis and was offered as 260z and 280z variants in later years. Also the textured coating is called chip guard. Thank you for creating your content!

That silver & black Datsun was a 280ZX, it was the '80s successor to the 280Z and it was longer and bigger. It was even offered in a 2+2 model which sat 4. However the 240Z, 260Z and 280Z all had identical body styles aside from a few changes made to the bumpers and taillights.

That 50th Anniversary Z31 was only available for the North American market, hence the left hand drive only. 75 made it to Canada the rest to USA. The rarest form of the Z31 is the Shiro Edition, only 1002 were made, luckily I have owned both. It is a thrill to see one in Japan.

The Z34 got the VQ37VHR and of the Z33 engines the Rev-ups were the unreliable ones. The DE that I have anyways has been reliable for until this year. I think I have some sensors going bad so that's gonna be fun

Looking back at the 350Z and 370Z, they both went a different approach from the predecessors in a not bad way As modern sports cars, they went with a whole new design while still carrying over the heritage from the Z like the styling cues With the 400Z, I feel like it's kind of going back to that lineage with the 240Z and 300ZX Turbo and that's awesome!

Actually the 350z engine was so far back in the bay that it gave it almost perfect weight distribution. So the heaviest part of the car is basically right up at the firewall which incidentally is damn near center.

I haven't read any of the comments but at 14:10ish you asked the same question regarding concept in left hand drive. My guess is that they don't produce many of the prototypes and for the most of the world, people drive on the "wrong side" of the road and would not be able to comprehend seeing a car that they couldn't relate to. Just my thought.

I think of the infinity g models and current skylines as base model skyline GTS’s and GTT’s and the Nissan GTR as a Skyline GTR. Also it makes sense to me why alot of their performance models have V6s.

That S14 concept looks really good. The rear of that concept would look good on the new Z. However the Skyline though. It is a Skyline fo sure but not a GTR. I hope the GTR will have a look that is super different from that sedan.

During the late 70’s and early 80’s automatic transmission was a big deal and you had to pay extra. For example look at the price of a 1974 BMW 2002 tii manual and an automatic. No love for the V37 Skyline... it's a very capable car. I own one - swapping it to manual currently. They are good fun on the track with a proper tire! You should check out what Phoenix Power in Kyoto has done with theirs, definitely worth a look.

I think its important to note the "280" is a 280zx specifically. Also I believe that Z32 is a 2+2 model which is notable as well.

De’s Make the most Torque other than the 3.7 VHR in the Nismo trim , and it beats the De by 2 Lb ft. Not to mention the De hits it’s peak torque another 13-1400 rpms earlier at around 4K rather than 5.4-5.5k.

Looking back at the 350Z, the 240Z concept wasn't too bad but I'm glad that the production model ended up being just like the 350Z Concept However, I really dig the retro look on the 400Z it's like a 240Z and 300ZX Turbo combined!
