I have built the 68 kit and enjoyed it. I have not found the 67 kit yet. I'll get it if I find it. 👍 I'm thinking of doing another 68.

Great comparison. When I was doing research on the History of Model Cars I came across this a few times. One early one was the ford f150. Revelle changed just the front bumper by removing the license plate holder and re-released it as a new kit!

Auto manufacturers made slight changes between years and used most of the same tooling in real life. Tooling is EXPENSIVE. The more parts you can make from each tool, the cheaper each part becomes and increases profit. The model makers can (and should) do the same thing. Need to save money wherever possible. This was a great look at the manufacturing of the kits. Good job, Nick!

This is an interesting comparison. The AMT '67 and '68 Camaro bodies were not always the same. The '68 was tooled up back in the early 1980s when Matchbox owned AMT. The '68 body has emblems and side marker lights molded in place. In 1995, AMT/Ertl tooled up the '67. It was based on the Matchbox-era '68 and used most of that mold, which makes sense since the real cars didn't change much between the two years. They created inserts in the parts trees to replace '67 parts with '68s. The new '67 body had emblems molded in place. The '67 trunk emblem was clearly different from the one on the '68. The '67 front fenders had "Camaro" emblems. The Z/28 emblems and side markers of the '68 are not on the '67 body. But today, both kits have the same body. What happened to the emblems? From what I'm told, when Round2 purchased the AMT molds, some stuff was accidently left behind, including the molds for the AMT/Ertl '67 Camaro body. So apparently Round2 decided to make the '68 body "generic" so it could bounce back and forth between the two kits.

Thanks! IMO decent kits. It is becoming easier to tub out the rear wheelwells as there are some great 3D printed back halves out there.

If I'm not mistaken amt retooled the 68 into a 67 in the 90's

Very well could be. Same exact mold in both kits.

The real cars, including the 69 Camaros. Lots of parts are the same on all 3 years. I had a 69 Z28. Some parts are even the same on Firebirds.
@joesrustshop450911 ай бұрын
The 68 should have had side markers. I've had a few, and the side markers were there. Faint in some cases, but there. So, either there's a 67 body in that 68 box. Or they are relying on decals as the side markers.
@lancerevell597910 ай бұрын
The 68 decals do include side markers.

I was thinking more about the difference between the two year's. The 67 has a window wing and the 68 doesn't.

68 has side marker lights, 67 does not.
@joesrustshop450911 ай бұрын
And after watching your video longer, yep, the side markers are now decals. So, they are saving some bucks by sharing bodies.

Most of the parts will be the same only diff tween a 67 & the 68 maro was the grilles was changed slight interior changes and the 68 had marker lamps on the sides when 67 had none
