Comparing File Managers - FreeCommander vs Double Commander vs Multi Commander | 2021

Not all file managers are equal and this video dives into that by comparing the 3 file managers to each other side by side.

I think my favorite free combo is doublecommander + xnview + everything, doublecommander is the fastest performance wise (that I've personally found out of the free commanders) and with f3 you can set the viewer to xnview and use that for photos, and since search isn't indexed search with doublecommander I use everything (void tools) and its the perfect combination

nice combo! IN my use case, the need to see screenshots in the folder without external programs is very important so i do put a lot of weight on it

PERFECT! I was looking for a file commander tool - ideally something to expedite the process of moving files between drives and such like; the ability to batch process files would be ideal - and something else to automate or speed tasks up. I wish I could remember the name of the one I used last year - I believe I had a 45-day trial - it was great, albeit maybe slightly bloated.

there are free directory cloning tools with scheduling. Maybe this is a good idea for a video as I recall, not all the ones I tried worked as advertised so one must be better than others

Reminds me the good old Norton Commander, the one and only file manager for windows in old days.

there is one, called midnight commander, I have a video for it too but its not recommended on windows.

Double Commander is the best. In this video you are misusing search. Alt+F7, setup search, Start. In Results page push button: Feed to listbox.

Free Commander is 32 bit only and not open source, Double Commander is both 64 and 32 bit and under GNU GPL licence with access to source code. That basically eliminates Free Commander in my opinion.

Nice comparison. However, your fixation on dark themes is wrongly directed. You can get a dark theme for your desktop and that will change all your windows to the dark title bar, menu bar, and borders. I tried that in Linux and Double Commanded got a very nice dark theme for all its features. You should add a disclaimer that you want a dark theme only for the file manager while the rest of the OS gets whatever the system has.

LInux and windows are very different! In linux the GTK or QT (and others) control the UI elements so you can play the them game globally. In Windows this works only when the developer adhered to newer standards

directory opus is extraordinary, better than freecommander, but not free :(

Total commander 10.0 RC3 is great but it is will not be free .

with freecommander being free, there is no case for paying them.
