its difficult to take a recommendation for heating from a guy wearing a body warmer inside

Well, sounds like having some personal insulation makes more sense than heat a whole house enough to wear some trunks. 1'

Hi, do you only have infrared in your home? If you do, how do you heat your hot water? Heat pumps can do both so it makes a difficult comparison

my same thoughts he didnt mentioned this also now in UK we have 7500£ grant

The problem of Heat pumps is price. Is very hard to get ROI unless very generous government incentives. I have a legacy gas system for base heating, IR panels for room heating as needed (1k investment), and a Mini heat pump boiler for water (4k Euros installed) . I also added solar panels (6k). Even with charging my EV, I have reduced my Energy bill by 60% in absolute terms. (Plus 400 Euros car petrol saving per month) The solar panels paid them selves in 4 years, the Mini heat pump will take 4 years more. I will consider a battery when 5kwh drops to around 1k, they have no ROI at the moment.

I’m going to get IR in my whole house this year. I have a standard 3 bedroom end of terrace house and a 4.6 kwp PV system, a Thermodynamik hot water system, and the gas boiler is only used for heating the radiators fur 5 months a year. Still I pay standing charge all year. For a gas bill of 1000€ p.a. I think I can be cosy warm with IR when I need it.

is a infrared heater cheaper than firewood
@ent13118 ай бұрын
Nothing is cheaper then firewood if you get it yourself...but then you got to gather it, clean the fireplace after a while, load it up every few hours, and be around the area so it doesn't burn down your house if a spark flies out and catches something on fire. Time is money. If everyone started using firewood the air quality would be worse and we would have no trees.

We've been looking at IR panels, but haven't been convinced yet. It's very difficult to know how effective they are going to be compared to air forced heat pumps which have been around here in New Zealand for several decades and are tried and tested. Our Consumer test organsiation here in NZ did a test with IR panels compared to traditional heating systems and found this. "Our power consumption test found IR panels didn’t save power compared to the other electric heaters. It should be noted the conventional heaters were run at their lowest settings and could be ramped up, whereas IR panels have no power settings - they are either on or off. If you found they struggled to warm your room, your only option would be to either add more panels or turn on another heat source. IR heaters come at a hefty price. Fitting out our thermal lab with two 450W panels cost nearly a grand. You could pick up a similarly performing radiant heater for less than $100."

You can get IR for similar prices. The advantage of IR is that it is instant heat but has to be sized to the size of the room, a big room you will need some 1200W. I usually use IR to top up my gas heating when in the room, and turn off when not in the room. My gas consumption dropped significantly, and my Solar Panels absorbed the Electricity use cost.
