Hey guys. Today Jaein, Erina, Jangmin and I went over some unique Cultural differences between eachother's countries. We specifically looked for stuff that was unique to that country and or completely absent in Korea. I hope you guys enjoy it and find it informative and fun. If you guys have anything you want to add on, let us known in the comments. I plan to continue this series and rotate the guests and talk about new countries and cultures in each new video :)

In spain when its between 2-5pm we usually dont talk loudly on the streets or call on anyones phone. We are always like "oh, dont call x, hes probably taking a nap" or "dont talk to loudly, people must be taking a nap". But im spanish and i HATE taking naps, its a thing that that most of the people do, but not everyone. Another one is that in Spain you are able to drink alcohol when you turn 18, so its weird to go to another countries and see that you aren't able to drink it :/
@Risperanto6 жыл бұрын
Ohmysuga which part of Spain are you from? Because I’ve never heard anyone say “don’t call because they might be taking a nap”, maybe it’s because i’m from the north? The nap culture is almost non existent there

@@Risperanto yeah it bothers me too. I'm from Bilbao and believe me that most of the people I know don't take a nap during winter unless they are very tired and really need it and during summer neither cause here it's not like in Andalucia that they can't go out till 6 because of the heat

The drinking laws in England are complicated. You can only buy alcohol once you turn 18, however people between 16 and 18 years old drink beer, wine or cider with a meal at a licensed premise so long as someone over 18 buys it and is eating with them. Also in private premises it is legal for anyone above the age of 5 to drink alcohol.

NZ is similar, 18 and over you can buy your own drinks, but from 16 as long as an adult/guardian has brought the alcohol and is supervising they can drink as well. but because of the drinking culture here most kids form the age of 13/14 (younger for me) have had a sip of some kind of alcohol at like x-mas or on the new years with the family

In Australia we are very laid back. If they want to, people can wear bathing suits or no shoes in the supermarket, fast food eateries, voting booths, etc and most people wouldn't think it's rude. Also, we are very casual when talking to our seniors, even our boss at work. I call my boss by his first name, and when I was at university, we called our teachers by their first names. I noticed that foreign students often had a difficult time with that, and thought it was rude, so they would often say "sir" or "ma'am". It would be interesting to know other cultures that speak so informally, or would most cultures find it rude?
@havum43806 жыл бұрын
In Finland you call your teachers by their first name. I honestly don't even remember/know some of my teachers last names. I had this super nice teacher a couple of years back and our class called her by this nickname that we came up with lol She was cool with it :D
@mact1486 жыл бұрын
haha yes aussie, it is pretty much the same in nz, we would call teachers miss and sir rather than their names in high school, and at uni it was just their first names. you always see someone with no shoes in in public (i write while at uni sitting at a table with my feet up, no shoes on), and cursing is done a lot and is considered 'okay' as long as it is not in a negative context (one the shocks foreigners here is when you call ya mate 'a good cunt')
@jojoo17026 жыл бұрын
In germany it depends tbh. You only use the first name of your teachers in primary school and after that you have to adress them formally.. which is actually kind of annoying to change as a habit. In university u stick with the last name as well. For jobs its different everywhere. I use the first name of my boss but my friend uses formal language towords her boss. It's so cool that there are countrys as chilled as Australia somehow. A little respect towords authorities is still necessary in my opinion :))

For drinking age: US has a higher age in order to prevent teens from drunk driving, since earliest legal driving age is 16. Parents always with kids: besides dangers of kidnapping/muggings, don't forget that US is a BIG place, so kids can't always go to a store in reasonable walking distance without needing their parents to drive them there too. But kids will generally walk by themselves to stores in suburban areas (at least, they do where I'm from). Guns: yes, it's super easy to buy, carry/conceal compared to other places. But there are zero tolerance zones where guns aren't permitted AT ALL. Though not every state requires people get a permit to buy or take classes for permit.

I really love this kind of videos! Here in Chile almost all people have 2 names and 2 surnames (our parents' surnames) some people also have only one and other up to 3 names hahaha. Regarding meals we have three breakfast, lunch and dinner but in breakfast and dinner we only have tea/coffee/milk with bread and that's it! Also here in Chile you are allow to drink and smoke if you are over 18 and the most common in almost all latin american countries is that we kiss when we meet (even if you meet strangers) It like a kiss on the cheek but you just touch each other cheeks like pretending a kiss and just make the sound of it. Can I add some cultural customs in Indonesia? Since Indonesia is big, it does not really apply to all areas but at least I think to the majority of it. 1. Good hand is right hand. Raise your hand in class, call someone or waiters, give and receive something, eat, drink, we do it with right hand. Left hand is considered impolite. 2. We eat with bare hand. Try it. It's really fascinating. All the sweat and bacteria from your hands make your dish more scrumptious. 3. We usually have breakfast at around 7-9 am, then lunch at 12-2 pm, and dinner after 7 pm. 4. Majority of Indonesia's ethnic groups do not have family name, but some do have. 5. Yes we do have McD and KFC with steamed rice and chilli paste. Chips/fries is only side dish. 6. We have an attribute to call older female and male to show some politeness and respect, but usually if we are already close enough, we just call the name. So it is not strict like in Korean Feel free to add more

Me and my brother are left handed, but ofcourse, in Indonesia using left hand for everything was consider impolite, so from early age the oldest teach us to do everything with right hand. Somehow it made our both hands work balance. If I was tired to write with right hand, i'll change with my left hand. Eating with my right hand, playing guitar with right hand, and I can do it all with my left hand as well.

About Spain having many languages, it is really coool!!!! Like, in Galician we have like 70 words to talk about how it is raining, if it is hard or soft and things like that, and since I came to Madrid to study I've been struggling a lot when it starts to rain and I say "oh, empieza a orballar" and my friends stare at me like ??? I find it really interesting. And not just that, there are a lot of expressions here in Madrid and other spanish cities that I've never heard before and I'm just like "are we speaking the same Spanish?" And then words that mean very different things, for example, in Galician "ano" means years old, like if you have 3 anos you're 3 years old, but in Spanish "ano" is anus. If you want to talk about your age in Spanish you say " años", and años in Galician means lamb. There are other cultural differences, like Carnival in most parts of Spain is just one day, in Galicia is called Entroido and is like a whole week and all weekends of the month, with traditional clothes and usually making fun of famous people and politicians. And about the food, in small villages in Galicia is common to have a place at the village, not far away from your house, where you can have pigs, lambs, sheeps, and more animals and we feed them and take care of them and then we ourselves kill them and prepare all the food to eat all year. So it is the best food always, with potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, ans other things that we plant. Basically you can live in Galician villages with your own food, buying just things like milk and bread. I really love how diverse Spain is, even if I'm eating bad now that I'm here, Madrid is interesting too!!!

Australian culture time! There's a lot but here's some, I'm happy to answer more :D Dinner is sometimes called tea, we usually eat with plates on table, it's pretty rare to eat all together at a table. DO NOT TIP! It's weird our minimum wage is (meant to) enough for us, if a place works with tips they usually say it somewhere. I've heard our slang is quite tricky to understand, the more country you go the worse it will be. Spiders, snakes and our deadly wildlife actually don't bother us most of the time. Leave it alone and it leaves you alone. Both of our crest animals cannot walk backwards (Emu and Kangaroo) Yes our beaches are lovely, keep them that way and STAY BETWEEN THE FLAGS! IF YOU'RE UNSURE TALK TO A LIFEGUARD! They are super friendly and are always keen to help out. Try Vegemite, always try Vegemite and Timtams :D We have a lot of nature, please don't try to take it home, you will get yelled at. Our customs in the airports are insane for a reason, don't be dumb do research first. If swearing makes you uncomfortable, your in for a surprise it's basically built into our language at this point. Our age of consent is 16 while drinking is 18 TRY OUR FOOD AND WINE! Australia is world known for our food and drink, please go to local bars, local wineries, do tours! Plan your trips! Don't think You can go from Brisbane to Sydney in a few hours on a motorbike. We are a BIG country! Also If you plan to go outback WARN, PACK AND TELL PEOPLE! Ignorance in the bush can and will get you hurt or worse, the wildlife and weather is not your friend out there. Expect beauty, see wildlife never found anywhere else and above all, take photos and make memories, but PLEASE be smart :D

For me, Australia is both wonderful and scary at the same time. But so is my country too I think. I am proudly Mexican. Mexico is so rich in biodiversity, resources, culture, traditions and gastronomy but we also have the worst governmental management ever, we are hands down already conquered by the US. Our former president was Trump's toy and the next one seems to be in the same path. 🤢🤢🤢 There is a lot of violence, the government is killing people for their lands and to silence them, corruption is a common word here, even elementary school kids know what it means. The drug-lords sometimes are better people than politicians, at least they DO help the poor people of their area. Is so messed up and tiring all this stuff in some places but most of the Mexican territory is a paradise to visit.

In France : - We just eat 3 meals (or 4 if you have a snack) : breakfast, lunch at midday (normally, but it depends on families), snack at 4 PM and dinner at 7 PM (it depends on families too) - You can eat with your plane or your bowl on the table or in your hands, both are ok with us. But if you are on a table with family or in restaurant or in the refectory/canteen/cafeteria, it's better if you don't take your plane or bowl in your hands. But if you are with your friends in your house, or alone on your sofa, we don't care, do what you want to do !!! - we don't need to have a tip, and you can have a tip just if your job is Server or Taxi Driver. Because in France you have a sufficient salary, you have rights and you're protecting unlike the USA where you don't have a fixed salary. You don't have to give a tip but it's well seen in France, and you give a tip depending on the work of the person. If you are satisfied with his work, you can give a tip. - we just have French for our languages and after we have some dialects. - we can't have a gun in France, expect the police. - when you have a child, you can give to him or her, the mother's last name (if both are ok or if we don't know who is the dad of the child), but most often, you had your dad's last name. - in the subways or bus, most often, people have earphones and listen to music. people can talk with their friends but no loudy, and you can talk on the phone but almost nobody does it by modesty and respect or they speak normally on the phone but in another language, like that, nobody understands them lol - You don't walk on the streets alone, in France. The parents can be scared because of pedophiles or just because the children can have a accident. Parents leave alone their children when we have 11~12 years I think. It's difficult to me to give you an age because I didn't have a normally family (like handicaps, jobs that start early and end late,...) so I was left alone soon enough, around 7~8 years old. - You can start drinking and buy alcohol at 18 in France (19 in Korean age), but most often, 12 years old's children already drink alcohol several times. - often, the server takes a tour of the tables and asks if we want to take our order, but most often it's like what Dave and Jangmin do, just like an "excuse me" or lifted arm. - we drink alcohol during the meal, like wine, or during the appetizer or both! I'm sorry if my English is bad, I'm French so please forgive me and correct me if anything is wrong ! I hope I can help you to discover French culture !

Ton anglais c'est très bon, en fait! The only things I could grasp that may have to be changed are "protected" instead of protecting, because you are receiving protection, not giving it. Also. "normal" instead of normally, because it is an adjective, not an adverb,. Besides from that, you just have a couple typos or the usual forgetting the n in "an" before a word that starts with a vowel, mais pour un texte si prolongé je crois que tu as un niveau impressionnant de logique dans ta rédaction. Desolée pour le mauvais français, j'etudié pendant quelques années, mais je suis sur que j'oublié toutes les mots; cependant, j'essaie de me communiquer dans cette langue quand j'ai l'opportunité. Salut depuis Mexique!

In Denmark we have a pretty big youth drinking culture. We don't have any restrictions on when you're allowed to drink alcohol (but you do have to be 16 to purchase and 18 to buy at bars/clubs). Most kids will probably start drinking at around 14-15 years old (I just looked it up and apparently Danmark holds the record in Europe where 92% of Danish 15-16-year-olds drink alcohol). Since people start drinking so young, usually our parents play a big role in the introduction of alcohol as well. A lot of the time you might have house parties with all your classmates where alcohol is present, but there will be a handful of parent at the house too just to make sure nothing goes bad or in case someone gets sick. Or at least that was my experience. I personally feel like young Danes drink a bit too much, but at least it's less than it used to be in the past.

Why do you speak so negatively about your country? I'm sure United States also have amazing things
@kaylinsmith69216 жыл бұрын
@@Fintech0912 Sure, there's opportunities. But there's nothing to be proud of. Have you seen our President? Taken a look at Congress? Land of the Free, where prisons are full, lots of people are on drugs, and minorities (POC, trans people, etc.) have their rights and LIVES threatened daily? That's why I speak negatively about it. Because it deserves no praise.

아니힐링 America is messy like all countries. I feel people bash on America too much, but a lot of the negative things are true. But there are very good reasons for some problems like the gun problem everyone has guns and loves their guns. So you can’t take away the guns. (Also America is very big and each region is different with a huge population .) But some things like racism are fixable, but the general population is afraid to address the issue. Because it would start a whole debate that is deeply rooted in our past. In my opinion a lot of Americans are over dramatic and very opinionated. So things don’t get solved

@@Alejojojo6 Actually, the US has around 150 native languages that are still spoken today. At one time, California was arguably the most linguistically diverse place on the planet, with at least 20 major language families spoken there (modern Europe only has 3, excluding isolates).

@@quantumsoma2585 There is a big difference between native (the native is usually quite isolated, in Spain it does not happen. If we do it like this, Spain has many more languages. But they would not become official, like those mentioned) and official. Here the official languages are spoken by the majority of the population depending on their state / community.

Mexico sounds similar to Spain except there's no siesta time. Your break might vary between half an hour or 2 hours. Another interesting trivia: * The kiss on the cheek to women (friends) as a greeting are mostly just touching the cheek with your cheek, DON'T ACTUALLY KISS THEM. (Old people will tend to do this tho, with their younger ones) * When you met someone new is normal to get the right greeting wrong (specially to women). Some men will instinctively greet always with a kiss to women, and also some women will expect that too (you will realize through their body language, but is usually fast and both will know they made a mistake). On the other side, some won't feel comfortable (men or women) and you might get that awkward when someone expected a kiss and the other only extended his hand. * Mexico regards highly good manners, most people doesn't realize we tend to be very polite. Lots of people may be rude, but having good manners helps a lot to anyone and is appreciated. Examples: when you pass by someone eating (even a stranger) is good manners to say "provecho" (like "bon appetite"); greet anyone giving you a service: say "good day" and thanks to the clerk; to the bus driver; to the guards of your house complex, etc. Don't push, tap lightly on the shoulder and say "compermiso" (excuse me). There's a lot of little things that makes "mexicans are walm, nice and welcoming" true, and some are habits. * You can vote and (legally) drink at 18. We have an universal ID for this (INE credential). You have it, you can vote, you can buy alcohol. * Arms are legal but heavily regularized. You need a permission to own one and you get it directly from the local Army office (I don't know a lot about this, so it may be inaccurate). * You can't buy alcohol after midnight, or after 22:00hrs on Sunday. On some special dates (like presidential elections) you can't buy alcohol at all. * It's illegal to drink alcohol on public spaces (streets, neighborhood parks, etc) * There's spicy salsas and not spicy salsas.... if someone tells you "that salsa is not hot" it might be still a bit spicy for you tho. * There's a lot of street food :D

@@richellegeronimo1614 jajajajajaj that's completely true! We just put lime and chili powder on everything. Growing as kids we develop a taste for sour, spicy and salty things...... and we regret that while approaching our 30's since most will develop gastritis (though it seems it's something genetic and native viruses related). PD: American Limes here are Limones, and American Lemons are more similar to mexican Limas (Limón =/= Lemon... and Lima =/= Lime)

So... I'm from Czech republic. We have also a few interesting facts. 1. It's not so crazy to wear socks in sandals. Now it's starting to be a little weird for younger generation, but for people around 40ties and older, it's quite normal. 2. When you visit someone's place and he says to you not to take your shoes off, you HAVE to immediately take them off. It's considered as really, really rude, because nobody wears their shoes in home. Just slippers (idk if that's the correct word). 3. When you speak czech, you understand slovak and vice versa. That's because until 1992 we were one country - Czechoslovakia. But it's better for slovaks, because they listens to the czech more than czechs to slovak. That's because we have really good dubbing of movies or series so slovaks sometimes buys rights for playing czech versions. 4. We are one of the few countries in European Union, who have their own currency (czech crowns - české koruny). It's not like we have some privilegies, but EU said to discuss it and to convey when we'll be using euros, but we somehow didn't set up the date when, so... Yep, that's normal for our nationality 😊 Hope you like it and please don't think that czechs are really weird 😊😊
