I love the 18" the best, it is easier to create drama with the limited coverage of the octabox. As for the harshness of the light, it's not too bad and you can compensate with either reflector or-as you demostrated-with ambient light. Who else is drooling over the model? GORGEOUS!!!

I just bought my first octobox (48"), and luckily this video makes me feel like I made the right choice! A couple of bits of feedback about the video: You should start bringing sandbags! That should help with the wind problem. Tip with C-Stands: Always point the tallest leg towards your talent, and hang the sandbag over that same leg. This makes it where, even if the stand does fall over, it won't land on your subject. :)

What a fun video. Everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves, which makes a shoot so much more pleasant. & with all that wind, you look like you shot this here in KS, where it's that windy all day, every day! As far as softboxes go, as much as I'd like to use something larger, I think I'd prefer the 38" for effectiveness & portability. (& there's that wind factor, too.) Thanks for sharing!

Well done. Useful info. Nice to see you are having a good time while photographing. LOVE the bloopers! Hope your gear is ok. My only suggestion would be to place the camera settings on the top 1/2 or 1/3. When placed at the bottom, they are partially covered by the KZbin timeline if you pause the video to look at the settings.

Can you make a video explaining how a smaller / bigger strobe can work with different octobox sizes. For example: An AD200 strobe is working fine with large softbox? Or the larger the softbox, the bigger the strobe has to be?

Great video and I appreciate people like your self who take the time and effort to create educational content. My only advice is the music is not always to my taste, though this is subjective to anybody watching. Just turn the volume of it down a little in editing. For stands I use my rucksack, tent pegs with cords to anchor the stands to the ground ( if on grass )

I enjoy your videos, but have a CC: Often you place your camera settings at the bottom of the screen. They aren't there for long, so when I pause the video the settings are overlaid with KZbin's timeline. It would be nice if they were in an area where that won't happen. Thank you for helping me learn!

Great video and thank you for the comparison, my next purchase will actually be something similar to what you have though I have been lagging trying to decide on size. I don't know how it would help with that much wind(in this situation) but I have always kept a low center of gravity. Take a closer look at your bloopers, the octabank is already a sail and as soon it moves a little that bag reacts and speeds up the fall. I also keep the "tallest" stand leg pointing the same direction as your light, that way the weight of the diffussor is on the most stable leg, then make sure your weight is on that leg and not on the ground itself. I don't know how people buy sandbags but here's what I did: buy empty sandbags (ebay 4 around $20) then go to your local hadware store and buy a bag of small rocks (dont remember the exact price but it was pretty cheap) because rocks are easier to clean than sand in case of a spill. Keep up the great work!

hey francisco, i think you have one of the most educational videos on web. i live, work and shoot in new york, i was actually looking to see some videos about small lightweight portable lights, i want to carry less weight with me when i travel. and found your video. so i watched it out of curiosity. you use different products, compare them, show the camera settings, change camera setting and show the difference and the final comparison shot of all 3 octabanks - how cool was that. it illustrates the difference so good. for people, when they don't know what to buy. what you could do maybe - show how the photos would look without the flash going off. so people can see that you are exposing for the background and then they see how much of a difference (all the difference) is the flash. great work, i'll be seeing your work in magazine soon, i'm sure ;) good luck

Haha, your annotations crack me up. Good shooting. I just found the text of camera setting went by a little too quickly. Another second on the screen would have been perfect. You have a cool style, one that I haven't found on KZbin yet. The pic @ 3:16. Oh my gawd. The eyes stare into your soul. That big octa is awesome. I like them and the 60" softlighter II's.
@fjhphoto
@fjhphoto 7 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the annotations! Yeah, I let them fade away too quickly in this video, but I learned my lesson so in the other videos I've made since then I let them stay up longer. Editing a video right now and going to leave them up longer as well. Haha, Ericka is pretty awesome. She might come up in a few more videos. The 60" octabox is just too great. I don't have the softlighter yet but it should be pretty amazing too.
