Comparing Radios SW77 vs Satellit 800 vs R390A (vs PCR1000)

For this comparison, all four radios are sharing the same outdoor antenna. The SW77 is better with the outdoor antenna but still falls short of the Satellit and the R390A. In the end, the clear winner is the R390A. The Satellit comes close but the SW77 performs poorly in comparison.

agree with you,390 quality is the best,sw77 is weak i think because the Japanese produkt around 90's use kind of bad capacitors,these products go self broken or nearly after 20 years.CDs, radios. So the old sony products icf 2001 are better for listening than sw77.

Sony world receiver is exaggerated to be the best. Her look and design is outstanding Grundig radio is much better than Sony but Grundig is bulky. Sony products look like very hi-tech but it is only pretty packaging. Grundig is totally unattractive to me but it works excellent. I bought Satellit 500 and icf-2010 from eBay and compared them myself.

Greetings Jim, Great test of 3 receivers that are all very decent in performance. What country do you live in? Here in the US 530 to 1700KHz is the AM broadcast band with lots of very strong signals.and rare is the occasion when any signals outside that range are copyable. However, there are some DX events held on the outer banks of the US to receive European DX and usually the R390A is the default leader. The R390a is heavy weighing in at 87 pounds but when working properly,there are no MORE>>>

Hi Glen. I live north of you in Canada just outside of Toronto in the City of Pickering. receivers that I am aware of that perform better. I own a small biz and about 85% of my work is R390A's and the rest include R390's, R391's and R392's. The engineering that went into these receivers was simply amazing. Have you checked the tubes in the RF/IF path? Often I receive these receivers where the sensitivity is 3 to 5 mv or worse. They leave here at .POINT .1 to .3 uv with tube replacement, alignment and service.. Then they are AWESOME. 73 and good DX, Glenn WA4AOS dsm labs dot (com)
