Hey guys! Thanks for watching the video! You may have noticed that I didn’t talk about the operating range of any of the units. I left it out because I think antenna placement and RF coordination have the biggest impact on wireless range, intermodulation distortion, and dropouts. Also, the unit’s range is largely dependent on line of sight which is highly impacted by if you DO or DO NOT have an external antenna on a stick (above the audience or performers head) and a distribution unit. I should have put this in the video but failed to do so. Sorry about that! Again, thanks for watching! PS: Axient didn't fit into the budget for this video so more to come later!

I think for small productions SLXD is the best value as most artists would still be happy to work with it since it's Shure (Audio-Technica costs less and has more features, but a lot of people don't trust it), you can get all of the cool capsules, even the newest Nexadyne, it's scalable and networkable, dual reciever saves you on antenna and power combiners, and the price is great.

One that everyone sleeps on more on the budget side is the PGXD system. It’s 900mhz instead of 2.4g like the usual cheaper digital stuff so it doesn’t get much interference from wifi and bluetooth. You can get systems used these days for around $300. Interchangeable capsules and it runs on AAs. IMO it’s the perfect intro kit for karaoke / small parties / small bands. Hopefully Shure comes out with something to compete with Senn EW-D[x], in particular the dual channel per half-u rack unit. Senn’s on-camera EW system is also amazing and Shure doesn’t have a good answer to that just yet. I’m a big time Shure guy generally but the EW-DX just had all the features I was looking for in a dual mic compact setup. Running Earthworks SR5117 capsules on it too. Very happy with the results.

I'm getting ready to replace all of my Audio-Technica wireless mics that I use with headsets for a high school theatre with Shure SLXD + SLXD1, looking to run 16 mics at once. I have the BLX24r, and the SLX24, mic tone the SLX is smoother and a very even almost compressed response, tons of clarity without being harsh , very natural for speaking voice. The BLX sounds great it sounds like a Shure no complaints. But, the BLX in a ceremony crowd and or with overcast weather it drops in and out if the mic isn’t within like 15 feet from the receiver. A terrible experience . I have not had that issue with the SLX. No drop outs, tons of range. I really feel confident turning that on. One thing to note is it won’t sound or perform great if the speaker holds the mic at their belly and u gotta crank the volume to hear them (the worst lol) but if u know anything about mic handling it sounds so good I’m extremely happy with it. I can only imagine how good the more expensive models are. Love me some Shure mics 🙏🏽

Great video! Just some thoughts, 20hz - 20khz sounds good on paper but most professional systems are shaving off significant portions of the upper and lower frequencies. In most cases the engineers just need 50hz - 16khz at most. Secondly, none of these systems including the Axient will ever ever be better sonically than a wired Beta58 or Nexadyne. Just something to keep in mind.
@SilverCreekAudio4 ай бұрын
100% agree man! The main reason we use wireless mics is because clients want them. I remember an older engineer telling me once, you can spend thousands of dollars on a wireless mic system and it might ALMOST sound as good as a wired 58! Thanks for watching dude!

Would suggest spending a bit more effort on discussing the difference in setup, particularly scan types and scan results distribution (networking). I share your concern with the QLXD segmented display but as you mentioned the RF and audio quality are similar. I'm personally preferrable to the ULXD system, but for a considerable price increase. For those interested, you can probably find the video demoing the ULXD high-density mode on KZbin, where we showed members of the audio press how many transmitters can operate in a single band. An introduction to how each of these system work (or not) with Wireless Workbench for frequency coordination. Good job overall! Too bad the Axient system is pricey for the "average" user! :)

I was in for an upgrade of my 2 channel Samson analog system and looked at Shure SLXD and QLXD. But opted for the then new Sennheiser EW-DX. Many of the QLXD functions at an SLXD price point. And much more. Really like the network scan functionality with Bluetooth pairing. No more syncing issues in bright sunlight and holding the transmitters awkwardly in front of the receivers. Also the always on displays on the transmitters are really handy. I’m very happy with Sennheiser system (6 channels).
@tylerscott93293 ай бұрын
Kind of wish you would’ve mentioned the older GLXD and the issues they have. For anyone who has never used one, they are horrible. They are extremely range limited and their signal does not pass through obstacles well. You also have to constantly update firmware to make them relatively functional… on both mics and receivers. The axient wireless are expensive but have amazing interchangeability with other capsules (can run mics other then Shure) and will work perfectly every time.

Especially when I’m running 10 breakout rooms in a conference. Clients constantly get confused about the Senheisser mute switch vs power buttons.
