Comparing the otter Creek lab polonium 556 and 556K suppressors to the omega 300 from Silencerco.

Went to a suppressor industry shoot this last weekend and stopped by the Otter Creek tent. I shot a 14.5 with a K on it and either a 10.5 or 11.5 with the full size Polonium. The short gun with the bigger can was so much quieter, both as the shooter and that three feet back and three feet to the right you talk about. I think as the barrel length increases, the difference between the two gets lesser. The shorter the barrel, the better it does with the full size, and Andrew has stated this several times online that I’ve seen. Would be interested to see a video where you repeat this test with a 10-12” barrel and then compare all three again with the 16” test gun. Good video! Thanks for putting out content like this, it’s nice to just see people try stuff and then discuss it. KZbin could use some more conversations like this and less of the algorithm-driving standard fare the GunTuber community has become.

The part about less than 16...In my small collection, 300 BLK, 10.5 with a muffler, is quieter than a 16"with the same muffler. Using a db meter, 6 db quieter in the shorter version than the longer. Test was done 6' perpendicular to the end of the muffler. No animals were harmed in the experiment.

First shot is going to have less back pressure as well as be louder due to the can being filled with air. The gas will expand into the can and displace the air. The air will pressurize and ignite thus, first round pop. The first shot takes advantage of the full volume of the can before it is filled with pressurized gas. Subsequent rounds are fighting the pressure inside the can.

This makes sense for first round pop. However, I would’ve guessed the other way around in regards to back pressure. It was a very interesting finding as well as niche and maybe unimportant as it’s not likely you’re only going to have one round in your gun and expect hold up on the first shot.interesting nonetheless. This happens on all types of suppressors, my 22 cans do it the same as my sandman, same as my banish 45.

Do you have any experience with the Griffin Recce 5/5K? I’m debating the Polonium K (have seen the full size is noticably more gassy than the K version) or the Recce 5/5K with their eco flow, hoping for less back pressure than the Polonium K…as long as the Recce’s are still as quiet.

Not the Recce, but my HRT556 is a little louder but less gassy on an 11.5 spear-lt than my CGS Helios QD is. Hope the info helps.

See, I thought that the Polonium K was slightly louder to my ear than my Omega 300 was on my 12.5 barrel.

So far we’ve done our testing on our 16 inch platform. We are currently building another platform that will be much shorter to test for pressure and sound reduction, as well as muzzle, flashing, and a few other things.

With the last round hold open issue, I wonder how long of a delay it would take to replicate the issue (15 min, 30 min, 1 hour)?

That’s a really good question! I don’t know. Now I need to test that. Of course to be clear. I’m using an adjustable gas system and I’ve got it tuned all the way down to the minimum required to get last round hold open. But I assume you watch some of the other videos and already knew that. Hahah I have a theory that I know what’s going on. And there’s been a lot of people who have been clearing their papers very quickly. For a moment, I thought it might be just me. But I spoke with my local gun shop and a few others and they said they’ve had stuff clear in just a few hours even. Crazy what’s going on. yeah I wish you were close by two. That equipment is very expensive and it takes lot of understanding in order to set it up correctly. I’m working on getting either the Gear or someone who knows how to run that equipment so that I can get Del readers, and provide more information. But I’m not sure I like decimal readers. It gives a quantifiable number that people do like however there’s a lot more to understand. Another words if I yelled at someone at the same volume, but in different pitch, one could be more offensive than the other. And that’s a hard thing to share and explain. I don’t know, but I’ll keep working on a way to test it.thank you for your positive feedback and support

Good point, I never mentioned in any of the videos where we are filming. This test was conducted at Ben Avery shooting range in Phoenix Arizona specifically on the thousand yard range. We were on the 100 yard line for the filming of this portion, earlier in the day we were shooting to 1000 with precision rifles, thank you for your comment and your support

Generally speaking a rifle rated can is welded and cannot be fully disassembled for cleaning like a .22lr can is.
