Comparing Tone King Captures on the Quad Cortex: Neural DSP vs Amalgam

Yea the way neural dsp named the captures makes no sense. 1 should be super clean and 13 gainy lead. It’s all over the place. The quad cortex is really good but definitely still has a lot to be worked on. I’ll be looking into the tones you paid for by that company. Great video!

Amalgam is the best. He really knows how to set the amps. Especially mid gain amps.

Thanks @davlav, I got all the Amalgam captures of the Dumble + the SM50, and am greatly enjoying them tones. Your presets, the Two Rock OD50 Tones and Amalgam Two Rock ODS, are beautifully done too. \m/

Amalgam seems to have the best captures (third party). I’d be interested to see some videos from them on their capture process and setup etc…

Although, would be curious to see this same test with the Amalgam against the Tone King NDSP plugin. Apples to oranges, but I think the plugin is a step up from the NDSP captures.

I do not. I haven't been able to really dig into the plug-ins. Once they run in the QC I will definitely be checking them out.

A question: what would you choose to get a very FAT, bluesy edge of breakup tone on the QC ?

I think there are several amps and captures that could work. My main suggestion would be to run a parallel setup with 2 amps or even just two separate cab blocks. you can also use a delay as a slight doubler. For example, I did a Stevie preset a while back that ran a US SPR VIBRATO amp into two parallel cabs (2x10 an 1x12) and then into a dual delay with the delays set super short (12 and 24ms, 0 feedback) as a doubler.

I would love to see you do same test but dry no effects or just reverb to really see tone comparison the effects kinda sound like they are in the way in my opinion but I have been looking for something like this to see if I would invest in a quad cortex

Yeah, I've got similar feedback on other videos. I do try to keep it to just reverb for my newer videos.
