Just found your channel. Love the content. I’ve had a German Mauser 8mm for many years and have always thought about buying surplus military ammo, but was always hesitant. Thanks for covering this in depth.

Thanks! I have a whole series on reviewing surplus ammo. If you’re new to surplus ammo, make sure you clean out the corrosive residue properly after firing it!

11-55 was notorious for splitting.

I don’t think a lot of people pay that much attention to the ammo that they shoot, but if I can find some, I’ll certainly test it!

I love 50’s 8mm Yugo. I’ve shot thousands of rounds of it with mostly excellent results. Had one case split all the way through the rim. Got blasted in the face with some hot gas but not a big deal. Split cases like that have never happened before. Minor splits towards the neck and mouth are more common. Other than Portuguese 8mm, I think Yugo is my favorite. Also, the only newer Yugo I’ve been able to find is M75 from the 80’s and 90’s. Excellent stuff.

Again this was very informative, for me I’ve not purchased any surplus 7,92 as of yet but being a hand-loader the brass is very important. The 1970’s ammunition would be a better investment.

great video again.. Mr. 8mm Mauser Man.. I think the Yugoslavians & especially the Serbians loved 8mm Mauser guns for such a long time, that the ammo just got better and better, quality wise, and it is still great today ( PPU in the blue box ) it's the best for FMJ at least in my opinion, and hopefully soon supply will go up & price down- then I'm A gonna buy literally a Ton of it !! LoL P.S. my fav for hollow points, hunting, with my own M48 8mm Mauser is Hornady Match 8mm Mauser 195 Gr. I got 1 deer just some weeks ago, no scope BTW !! it dropped, yeah it was only 150 Yrds away, but hey, Just so U know !!

Good to know. I haven’t tested much hunting ammo, but I was really impressed with the S&B soft point.

The K98 eats the 50’s mfg ammo up! Some incredibly accurate stuff. I’ve only had primers blow out of their pocket which you only notice once the bolt opens.

@@8mmmauserman Haven't had any ruptures, cracks or any structure fails yet, i've got a few 900 round tins and 1954 seems to be the better quality thus far.

Nice job! Again, love your detail and thoroughness. I've not shot much milsurp ammo in my '48 Yugo other than a few Turkish rounds. I handload all of the ammo I currently shoot in that rifle with good, not great, results.

I found the 1950s ammo not as accurate as the 70s ammo, along with split cases. I have not yet tried the M75 ammo with the purple primer.

you know every split case i had on mosin and ak food it never even dawned on me i just figured it was because it was like 5 cents a round and old and all the guns ran fine with it

It’s really not a huge deal in many firearms, especially something that handles excess gas as well as a K98

The question is why the 55 ammo has more powder than the 70s ammo? Honestly speaking, I have surprised why yugo put lower velocity ammo for sniper use?
@8mmmauserman
@8mmmauserman 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. The 70's ammo is M49. It is just standard ball ammo. Sniper ammo is M75, and I'd like to test it at some point.

I was thinking about this too. Best I can come up with in my mind is that perhaps the slightly lighter recoil of a lighter load allows the shooter to better concentrate. Just a guess.

Do ruptured/ split cases damage the rifle? I have a K98k and wondering if I should buy 1950s yugo ammo
@8mmmauserman
@8mmmauserman Жыл бұрын
It shouldn’t. It’ll just Send more gas towards the shooter, and you’ll want to clean the action better due to corrosive primers
