There's all the kinds of red wood you can use for dye, like Brazil/Pernambuco (which people in South America make a tea out of for heart health, so it has to be safe to consume ) Saunderswood, Bloodwood, and Camwood. And there are resins like Dragon's Blood.

@@Sojoboscribe thanks, but I prefer using the natural colour of whatever-I’m-eating. Crushing insects just for colouring is barbarically cruel, not to mention many insects are not even kosher. Red wood dye and resins seem aight to use, as they seemingly harm no living thing.

@Abdullah Isa Goldstein Since when were plants not living things? And the dye is in the heartwood, so you have to cut the tree down to get at it. You DON'T have to cut them down to collect resin, but you do have to slash the bark repeatedly to make the tree "bleed." As I pointed out in another thread,if what you are looking at is organic, it's generally the case that something living died, or at least was injured, to get it.
