I watched this on my 4K projection system last week and was very happy with the job they have done..it retained the grain structure and grittiness of the original film stock whilst adding a lot more detail…the atmos track wasn’t bad either…one of my favourite films of all time…absolute classic

This is an upgrade, wow. I think out of all paul verhoven films this looks best and has a better story too. Great comparison 👏 I think it does look sharper than the pervious 4k mastered blu-ray

I actually really appreciated the close-up on the dude in the board room meeting. I noticed the blu-ray gave people an exaggerated “tan/orange” color tone to them, but this inherently fleshed away their facial details. The 4K seems to have done away with that coloring, allowing for much more detail.

Why does every 4K these days have a Teal tint to them ? Is because its done purposely for more definition ? Genuine question if someone knows help me out

Looks alot better. Only thing about this movie beeing more clear even with blue ray is seeing the black cloth in-between the eobot parts. lol I just pretend its there to cover up the exposed wires. 😅

Fact: The Arrow Blu-ray version is basically the same as the 2014 Blu-ray version. However, the Arrow Blu-ray version also has the theatrical cut that the 2014 Blu-ray published by MGM didn't have.

Not a giant leap but certainly an improvement. The saturation is so much better. Bummer the audio wasn't really an improvement. I have never owned this movie so I just ordered the 4K steelbook today. Excited to watch it again for the first time in years!

On apple tv which is a 4k release but not hdr will there be a huge difference to require getting a the 4k hdr disc?

Well…..honestly and this is only my personal opinion but I think the improvement is good in terms of image but in terms of sound it's a joke. You don't feel like you're listening to real Atmos sound. This is the big negative point that I question in this new edition.

@@Watto-lp8lr I agree that the Atmos track sounded a bit off at times, but the 4K disc still has the previous DTS-MA 5.1 plus Dolby 2.0 and 4.0 tracks. You can simply not use the Atmos track. This is definitely worth it for the visual upgrade!

That plastic armor looked a lot more metallic on TV 30 years ago. 😉 Even so, I've yet to find a case where enhanced detail made a movie _less_ interesting to me.

Should've compared the 2019 Arrow BD vs their UHD, to see how little difference there is. Because a lot of people bought it in '19, and don't want to rebuy same exact packaging again for a '4k' that probably looks the same.

That is on account once a BluRay gets a proper 4K scan placed on it - it reaches the " Maximum Potential" and known as a "Prefected Transfer". There want be a Huge difference between it and the Native 4K Disc on account they're using the same source. However the 4K Disc can still look a bit better on account the Higher Bit-rate, HDR, and "less" compressed file. Thou once a Native 4K Disc get a "Prefected Transfer" placed on it ( like a few releases have) it blows away any BluRay release.
