If you look up Cubex Quad, they have a nice select of quad beams. That you can buy and hole up to different weather conditions.

I have a couple of questions… 1. When modeled, what part of each antenna was at a given height? I know he said mounted at 35’, but that would be the bottom of the hex, and theoretically, somewhere near the middle of the quad. 2. Why compare different bands? Spacing and elevation as compared to frequency makes a difference.

I wondered what a hex bean looked like. Are those the beans used in voodoo spells?
@BusDriverRFI Жыл бұрын
Plant them and they grow into beams that are hexed.

Do hex beans give you six times as much gas as regular beans?

Interesting information. Might just have to model a 10/20 meter quad to replace my 4 element 10 meter yagi. I had forgotten the gain a good quad can have.

Dave, i think i saw you describe the reflector elements on a hex as being driven and the driven elements as being directors?

Thanks Dave - very interesting. 2 element beams of whatever type are not so much for forward gain as they are for rejection of side and rear interfering signals. Sure there are differences, but I would assume they all function to that end, even ones like the MA5b or 6b if we are keeping to compact tri or 5 banders. I suspect the more critical portions other than survivability in storms and so forth is the front to back and side as well as to the band width they have. Perhaps another vid discussing those attributes could be warranted?

Why didn't you compare the gain on the same band and height? You cannot compare a hex beam on 20m to a Quad and dipole on 15m, it's not comparable. The pattern, gain, and f/b will be different. Why not model identical heights and bands? This is apples and oranges.

the quad is a forgotten but very good antenna design.......I have a 4 el rectangular quad on 6 meters on a 14' boom. It holds it's own with much bigger yagis with a much tighter turning radius........ Max Gain Systems supplies fiber glass spreaders but ain't cheap.......not sure where you can get the boom to spreader hubs anymore........not a Home Depot project but they do work........ 73 Mike K1FNX near Boston

The same frequency comparison is required to be honest

Exactly. He really didn't explain much by jumping between bands.

The doublet nearly matches the hex, with a lot less wire and expense.
