I see MP21 and MP45 as two complete different figures. One goes for an homage to G1 with the real world car aesthetics and one goes for hypertoon accuracy 🤷🏾♂️ I lean more towards the MP21 for those reasons but they did an amazing job with MP45 coming straight out of the cartoon.....but thank God for options amirite 😆

Totally agree here. At the end of the day, does it fit the brief of being as cartoon accurate as possible? Yes. I don’t understand how people want “updated” G1 toys when the originals already exist. To my knowledge there’s never been fully transformable figures as accurate to the cartoon as what we’ve been getting recently. Isn’t that just selfish that people want updated, let’s be honest, pretty ugly toys from the 80s over something that we’ve never had before? People need to check themselves.
@KoolKollectibles5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's selfish, just different wants. If people prefer more toy accurate designs, that's fine. But then their argument the new figures suck aren't valid. I think people just need to understand Takara has always been about trying to make cartoon accurate figures. Now they've got many of the techniques to make it even more possible than before.

As far as MP-45 goes, the only complaints I have are the feet and that the backpack could have been compressed just a tiny bit more. The backpack isn't bad at all, but it just looks like it could go in just a little further. Its the back of the damn feet that is the problem! Why didn't they find a way to hide it better? Hide it inside the leg or under the foot and it would be much better. Even if they had made it possible to shift the ankle joint a tiny bit backwards would have made it better. Now it just looks like he has the ankle joint placed at the middle of his foot. But overall MP-45 looks just fine to me, and Im very happy with the MP line in general so far. The real complaint I have is on Takara directly, because there are certain figures that I really, really, absolutely and positively need, and I just can't get them fast enough LOL! THATS my complaint, hehe.. As far as all the bullshit critisism certain people tends to serve goes? There is alot of anger going around out there, buddy LOL! Don’t worry about the haters. It’s best to just like what you like and move on. Many awesome posters on TFW2005 have moved on and don’t post as much anymore because of all the hate. I post way less on there myself because I’m so tired of the arguments. I own both MP Bumblebees and the new one is infinitely better. It’s not even close. Of course it has flaws as most figures do. The feet are not ideal and the waist joint on mine is crazy loose but it can only swivel a few degrees so it’s not bugging me too much. I was lucky with the paint on mine. The only issue is that the hood panel is not quite as bright yellow as the fenders in alt mode but I display in bot mode so I’m ok with it. Takara does need to tighten up the factory quality. I wish they would stop manufacturing in Vietnam or at least train the workers better. I find that the MPs made in China are usually higher quality on average. You are absolutely correct about people hating on Inferno when he first came out. And now a lot of people have changed their minds. Inferno and Grapple are my favourite MPs. I’m a collector for the engineering and in my opinion Takara is doing a fantastic job with their current design direction. It’s not easy to make a realistic car turn into a cartoon accurate bot. Sunstreaker is a great example of that. And they even added a second version of the car mode for the license without parts forming! Amazing! And you are bang on about older figures like Prowl being universally praised and yet from the back it’s a gappy mess. I have no idea why Prowl is ok for some people but Sunstreaker is not. I’ve always wanted to start a thread on TFW to measure all the backpacks on the MPs. The older MPs have backpacks that are just as thick as the new figures but many people don’t seem to realize it. I prefer Sunstreakers backpack to Sideswipes because it doesn’t have any gaps and looks more cohesive. Also, if you want the front of the figure to look the best you can , where else would you put the car kibble? Of course it must be in the backpack. Would people prefer the kibble to be on the arms? The chest? Takara is using every cubic millimeter of space they can. There aren’t many empty spaces in the alt modes. Bumblebee V2 is not perfect, but he pulls off both modes very well considering how different they are and from most display angles he looks incredible. I absolutely love the head sculpt and arm articulation.
@KoolKollectibles5 жыл бұрын
Agree with all that you said! Yeah, I have thought about whether the quality has dropped since production went to Vietnam. I think I've been pretty lucky with QC issues. As for TFW, most hate is actually coming from the FB groups. The TFW threads have been pretty good in balanced discussion.
@PacoGrande765 жыл бұрын
Kool Kollectibles Some of the MPs are still made in China. I don’t have enough data points to make an official call but in my experience Vietnam seems to get the smaller or older figure repaints (Bee 2.0, Blackarachnia, the plus repaints) and China gets the rest (Prime 3.0, Hound I think?). My figures from Vietnam are typically worse. Also there seems to be a ton of factory thefts from Vietnam which is why there are so many loose factory rejects of Bee 2.0 and Blackarachnia for sale online. Also my experience on TFW has not been balanced and my ignore list is now epic. It’s tolerable now. But I find the discussion always gets ugly when a thread ends up on the front page. The people posting in a thread for months while waiting for a figure to release seem to be more level headed, but when there’s a front page news post about a figure you get all the random haters that don’t even collect MPs popping in thread to let us all know that the figure sucks.

There were complaints about Inferno & Grapple!? What the deuce!? Those two and Starsaber had to be *THE BEST* for anime accuracy. I think that maybe the complaints about how overly messy and panely things look may have started en masse with the MP36 Megatron, whose robot mode is phenomenal, but the back ain't quite the cleanest (probably cleaner than later entries), but gun mode makes the old Classics Deluxe Ironhide mold look LESS sloppy than it was. Really, despite the flaws in the engineering philosophy, I don't think that there's any way they can go so hyper accurate to the anime without having flaws for most characters. Some could've been done better, like Blackarachnia, though...her spider mode is kinda stinky. (Notice I didn't mention either MP28 or MP40 versions of Hot Rod, whose robot mode is kinda trash in exchange for a pretty nifty car mode.)

For me, the only issue is that nowadays MP's have too many fake chests. I am not against fake chest, they are fine if they make the figure more cartoon accurate, yet it is just at a point where every single panel is fake and toys today are just like peeling off the fake panels and hide them inside (or exposed in some cases), that is when you know the designers got lazy. In contrast, designs like sunstreaker are in credible. It has a fake chest I agree, but at least the effort is there.
@KoolKollectibles4 жыл бұрын
I disagree that fake chests mean the designers are lazy. It actually takes more engineering design to build in the fake chest to allow accurate representation in both modes. The fact they can achieve this in an all-in-one transformation is awesome. This applies to sunstreaker and the new BB and OP.
@jkliao64864 жыл бұрын
@@KoolKollectibles It is easy to have a fake chest than to actually try to recreate the transformation step in the cartoon. For me, it has always been the combination of both cartoon-accuracy and cartoon transformation step. Like MP 36, you can see that how megatron is transformed from various designs, yet they simply used those countless panels. That is some lame designs. Again, that is only my preference.
@KoolKollectibles4 жыл бұрын
@@jkliao6486 There are times where the fake chest is unavoidable if they want to have cartoon accuracy in both mode. For example, Sunstreaker and BB need to because the autobot insignia changes position in both car mode and bot mode. That "cheat" in the cartoon can only be met in real transformation through use of a fake chest that also looks much better in either mode. SImilarly for MP-44 Optimus, where the change in chest allows the figure to look its best in both modes. The 3rd party OP figures are decent, but none of them look as good as MP-44 in terms of overall proportions and style.

My MP-44 had a broken left knee out of the box and some paint issues, not to mention the seemingly universal bent antennae issue. Not what I expect from a figure with that price tag. My MP-45 is similarly afflicted, with a gouge in the right headlight, loose legs and elbows, and some paint problems (the mouths on mine are hardly painted at all). Some of the criticisms of both figures are perfectly valid. MP-45, for example, is too tall, has ugly feet and side profile views, and is way too expensive for what it is. I'm very annoyed that the KO/factory seconds started showing up literally the day I got my official one, because I would have totally gone for that and saved around £30 (which is a much more realistic price point). Takara seems content to make bots that look great from the front, but sacrifice cleanliness for the sake of extreme articulation. I could live with that, but the QC is also a lottery these days so you just don't know if you're going to get a dud or not.

there´s a huge difference between those backpacks and the feet and the figure in general, on mp21 the backpack and the feet look good, there is no hollowness and the figure looks good from all sides. on mp-45 the backpack and the feet look unfinished and like it´s falling apart any moment. and that´s far worse engeneering, and btw on mp-45 the chest is way too small. for me mp-21 looks like a finished product in both modes. mp-45 looks like a cardboard stand-up, looks somewhat ok from the front, but completely falls apart from every other angle. and YES, i want my figures to look good from ALL angles and like a whole figure
@KoolKollectibles5 жыл бұрын
I think your argument for no gaps forgets that MP-21 is far too barrel chested, looks like it has a turtle shell for a back, has thin chicken feet for legs, and overly large clown shoes for feet! I think it suits G1 toy fans far more than G1 cartoon fans that prefer their figures to look like the cartoon rather than the toy. I don't think the rear or the side looks unfinished at all. If you think they do, then you must think most of the MPs look unfinished because there are massive gaps all over the place. I think it's great that they engineered the design to be cartoon accurate in both modes to provide a BB transformation that isn't constrained by the roof or rear of the car. That's what innovative design does. Sure the feet are ugly at the rear, but I guess that was the compromise they were happy to have with all the other points. In comparison, I think MP-21 looks very dated now due to it's simpler design constrained by those large physical parts.

The figures have perhaps less panel lining, but I dont think that necessarily means less detail or less engineering. I think many of lthe figures, especially Inferno, Sunstreaker, Optimus, and Bumblebee molds perhaps represent that the most. Prefer the previous Mp Bumble bee. Bet your favorite minibot is Outback. Bet you have some versions of him. Maybe you have even come across him (the real one) there where you live. Just like you do Crocodile Dundee and the other fellow natives. Including the kangaroos.

Recent figures are trash. There is no good engineering there just lazy panel folding.

Lol not sure how you can call those designs "lazy" but whatever 🤣🤣

@@KoolKollectibles there are multiple parts that could have been designed better in my opinion I could even improve them with some simple changes. The recent Takara mp buyer agrees with whatever they make and just buys it. I believe this is reflected in the design. Good example is transform element and Takara optimus.

I completely disagree with you if you think the TE Optimus is better than MP44. Every side by side comparison shows to me that MP44 looks more natural, has better body proportions and lines that flow better (aside from perhaps the larger backpack), has far better articulation, and generally looks more 86 movie accurate than TE. The TE figure is still boxy looking, lacks key articulation even in the thighs, and still required a separate head sculpt to be released to even look properly like Optimus.

@@KoolKollectibles The Design idea behind TE of the allows for more articulation with a bit more complexity. But there is no way to remove the puzzle look of mp44 it just does not look solid. Anyway we are far apart in our opinion and will not convince each other. I hope the fans vote with their wallets.

@@monologiorobotach557 Not sure if you've had a close enough look to MP44. It is most definitely a solid figure. All the panels you talk about fold alway and clip together perfectly. But you're absolutely right that our opinions are polar opposite. I think fans most definitely are voting with their wallets and buying the figures. I'll likely pass on upcoming MP49 repaint, but I'm sure that will sell well too, just like Hound.

Terrible design for these bumblebee ... a great character that be destroyed with this design ... what a pitty!!!
