It's obvious that the Ambrogio is better engineered and sturdy, with fewer moving parts, durable materials and practical features. Now, we wish to know how well each works in the real world (speed, wet performance, evenness of cut, damage, accuracy of tracking), reliability (and ease of repairs), and relative cost of replacement parts.

I did the layout and installation by studying the on line videos Husqvarna had on the web kzbin.infoUgkx2KDztGvdU79XTmlqIMSUyPq8CjprGJOR also recommended it When I started the unit it stated it would take a few days to learn all the spots in the yard. So I thought it was just finding the areas till I noticed it was cutting. It is so quite you don't know it is cutting.

He is obviously more keen on the small mower. Using words like "simplified keyboard setup" and "much more compact" instead of "not as advanced keyboard setup" and "much more unsafe". Yes, the Husqvarnas blades are a long ways from the chassi edge. But that is for safety and safety only. No risk for pets, children or even an adult to get the paws and toes severed by the blades. The small mower seems very unsafe in that regard.

All comments are factual based on actual data. The Ambrogio blade is within the boundaries set by the law, so therefore is safe.

Also the blade is close enough to the edge where there’s much less follow up trimming to do. What’s the point of the automower if you have to go back behind and trim 6-8 inches on every border?

@@mowermagic No complaints about not reporting facts, you spent a lot of time going over the features of both. Watch the video again and see if you notice how you talk about the two. You clearly favor the Ambrogio. Favoring one or the other is human, but you should acknowledge your bias. One quick example, when discussing the inside, you mention the brushless blade motor on the Ambrogio and only call the Hus. motor the blade motor. - When specifically discussing the motors, you do mention brushless blade motor is a feature on both. Another quick example, you only hype up the Ah rating (in regards to the robot batteries) and do not talk about advantages of having higher voltage. - You mention power tools and nail it, but don't draw the correlation with its use in mowers. - Since its a robot mower and can mow anytime the parameters allow, it seems like there is an easy case for voltage being more important than Ah. The "law" does not equal safety; otherwise, once set, they would never require updating.

Very interesting review. However I have one question. How is the design of cuttingprograms on the machines.
@aaba112
@aaba112 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting review. Sadly, the reviewer is clearly favorizing Amrogios design as an advantage in most aspects and doesn’t mention HQ’s design advantages where relevant. For example, the large body giving higher security if a hand is pulled in from the side. And the colission techniques explained as Ambrogio are having 3 different methods as HQ has one. In reality HQ also have drive-current monitoring, etc. According to review, Ambrogio should have outstanding capabilities when it comes to getting grip in slopes, following pits on the ground, efficiency, durability. I guess we need a real-life test to prove if that is true in reality. Are wide but small wheels better than large and thin in all environments? HQ has narrow wheels for a reason, not to flattening the grass? Are the flexible front wheels (allowing cutter to dig down into pits) giving better cut result and less risk of getting stuck compared to HQ’s “stiff” body? How can the knifes of Ambrogio hold up for a whole season when HQ cannot? Both are rotating stainless metal knifes? Another question, are you sure HQ really lack accelerometer? Even my cheap china cutter has it. Looking forward to more tests :)
@prczyzew
@prczyzew 3 жыл бұрын
Narrow wheels mean putting more pressure to the grass, so flattening effect should last shorter. However, I don't think it's among main reasons a producer chooses narrow or wide wheels.
@P44man
@P44man 3 жыл бұрын
@@prczyzew I replaced my ambrogio fat wheels with thin 3d printed spiky ones, exactly because of the flattening. With the small cutting disc and wide tires, especially on a stressed lawn, it did more flattening than mowing. The spiked wheels work much better on my lawn, far less flattening, and more traction on wet grass. They do suck on pavement and I needed to add some rubber to the charging dock.

@@nickgarrett26 I'm in the market for a mower, and its clear that the build quality of the Ambrogio is better. The question no-one has mentioned is whether or not the support exists for the ambrogio in the same way as the HQ. Or whether one simply does a better job. Ambrogios online representation is disgusting and frustrating - is this representative of their support. I have a feeling this is to do with being based in italy.

Have been an owner of a husqvarna 310 for 4 years. It has never failed, Mowing through heavy wind, and rain faithfully retuning to its basestation- My lawn is uneven, and it do lift its frontwheels, but have never lost traction even in hilly terrain, never. You fail to tell the viewer about the weight distribution. It is 80/20, and will never lose traction. The tall diameter will make it pass on small holes, roots and do collect minimal amounts of cut/uncut grass. The ambrogio on the other hand, small wide wheels and rubber tires, collecting grass, dropping into small potholes, a pivoting front axle allowing for the lawn to get scalped. Rubberwheels do not age wery well either. If rain or moist condition, probably flattening half of the lawn with its wide wheels, before it tries to cut the grass. I guess there will be lots of left over patches, while wheels and axles collects enormous amouts of grass. Maybe it is a good thing with that big battery, if it ever manages a whole summer vacation without beeing serviced. The more complex constrution have to prove itself. Often the simplest things are the most reliable. And what about the frontwheels acting as a bumper, trouble.

Great and detail review. I see that you more inclined to recommend Ambrogio, but here are mine pros and cons from my experience: 1) fixed blade are good if there's nevere ever any fallen branches, garden fruits, pine cones, toys or other objects on the lawn. And if there is - the disk will get bent or damaged really quick what will lead loss of sharpness (yellow or white lawn tops), vibration. You need to change that disc in time, or vibration will do some damage to the robot. Husqvarna blades will rotate around it's fixing bolts hitting objects preserving the blade motor and blades. 2) Mulching blade - fallen leafs during autumn season will be hard to collect wet porridge. 3) Why Husqvarna pushed blade 13 cm from the edge - safety first: the closer the blade from the edge, the easier to get cut. It's okay when there is no children, pets or human on the lawn, but still, there is no robot on the market, which can completely cut the edges. You still need to trim the edge it's 5 cm or it's 15 cm, or lay cobblestones perimeter line or etc. 4) Husqvarna 310 robot do not have to operate 24/7 to maintain 1000 m2 lawn, it's nonsense. 1000 m2 - 4 - 5 hours of pure blade motor working time is usually enough (which means 8-10 robot schedulle time). 5) Battery capacity - Ambrogio needs more capacity to reach it's docking station following perimeter (there might appear yellow marks on the route on corners). Husqvarna got guide wire, which is straight route to the station, that means it's less time to reach it. 6) Wide wheels - the more contact you make to your lawn, the more squeezed and bent down it will look, especially when the wheel will be full of dirt, grass or leaves it will work as an asphalt roller.
@AgentThompsonX
@AgentThompsonX Жыл бұрын
Don't tell people that Ambrogio needs 3Ah additional capacity comparing to husqvarna only because of the return-to-station system. It is not that much energy consuming plus you can program Ambrogio to return to station more efficiently than following the perimeter wire only. 2Ah battery capacity for a 1600m2 robot is a joke. How many times a day the robot needs to recharge to actually mow such large area? What is the usual lifetime of such a highly-exploited battery considering that the lifetime of Li-Ion cells is highly dependent on recharge cycles? Apparently you never installed any Ambrogio robot so you don't speak from your own experience.

So if i buy the Ambrogio Twenty Deluxe and change the battery to a higher capacity than it would work like the elite or elite +? Same print and motors etc? Thx
@mowermagic
@mowermagic 3 жыл бұрын
We'd love to say that it was that simple, but it's not. Both the Twenty Deluxe and Twenty Elite use the same battery, the additional area coverage mainly comes from the addition of the GPS and connect module for GPS enhanced navigation to optimise where it mows in the lawn and reduce the time it takes to return to dock with GPS return home. It also uses a different software to work alongside this so you can't just add in the GPS antenna and expect it to work. The Twenty Elite S+ is the same as the Twenty Elite with a larger battery and algorithms tweaked to match this - even if it was as simple as getting a bigger battery, it would be more cost effective to buy the high capacity model than try to upgrade it yourself though. As for the motors etc - yes generally all other components are the same across the different Twenty models. I hope that helps.

Thanks, yet again an excellent comparison video, very comprehensive. Without doubt they outcompete popular brands but why is the Ambogio range hardly ever included in the multiple ‘ Best Automower s 2021’? After extensive research surprised to find little positive feedback from users and dealers. These look like good sturdy well endowed machines and the fact that John Lewis are happy to market them, says a lot. Are the Elites a new generation waiting to be assessed properly. Baffled??

Hi Liam. Ambrogio are very true to their specifications. The wide grippy wheels on this platform really do a fantastic job so it does keep grip even if the conditions aren't perfect. If you're right on the limit we'd always suggest getting some advice from a local dealer too so a real world judgement can be made based on the slope and other conditions around it. If you local to us we're happy to come and do a lawn survey and bring a unit to test on the sloped are (we can test without a wire needing to be installed) just to give you confidence in the slope handling. If you're not local but in the UK, we can point you to a local dealer who can help too.

As an engineer and tester for more than 20 years, I'm sad to see this clearly a sponsored review. And this comment will be removed by MM. Put them on real-world tests to prove tour statements! Here are just a couple of examples of the clearly biased statements: -Blades: Biggest issue for mower blades is hitting stones, not wear. Ambrogio has a one-piece blade that costs a lot to replace, not to mention the Husqvarna has a shield and blades that fall back when hitting something hard. -Wheels: Soft rubber wheels have indeed better traction on a steel plate, but when is that feature needed? Also, you can get wheels with even bigger spikes to the Husqvarna. Body: No mention about how easily Ambogio will get snagged in bushes with all those downwards spikes and the hook-like front bumper. The Husqvarna shell is designed for not attaching anywhere. PCB:s: If the electronics need to take into account heat dissipation, they need more power and therefore forced to put a larger battery. Relays are very old architecture, not even RC cars that are using more than 800A current need relays. Note also that the Husqvarna PCB is protected from moisture, where the Ambrogio is not.

I have the old L15 (2019 model) and its virtually identical to the 2020 L15 and the twenty deluxe, except for the smaller blade and the blade guard (the new L15 has the same one as the twenty). Motors, battery electronics, wheels, chassis, all 100% the same. Seriously, afaict the only difference is the color and of course, packaging (perimeter wire). Only the twenty elite plus is "different", it has a 2P battery and thus twice the capacity. Since its just a bunch of 18650s in series, no BMS, no balance leads even, feel free to upgrade your own battery, which is what Im doing. Oh, and I guess its possible in theory they reduced the speed on the L15 compared to the 20, which might explain the claimed difference in lawn size they can cover. But I doubt that even, for sure the motors and electronics are the exact same.

Correct, because the Ambrogio is terrible at cutting grass... It's best to think of Ambrogio as a lawn polishing tool because it can only trim a tiny 1/16 off the top of the grass
@mowermagic

Incorrect it is not terrible. The small cutting is by design - once the grass is the required level it always stays the same. There is no need to cut off more as it mows every other day.

Update after 1 year owning the Ambrogio. The machine itself probably works fine but the app is so bad that I have not been able to use it this year. My reseller cannot help me since the only support they get from the manifacturer is to “reinstall and update the app”. All problems started after Ambrogio introduced their “new and inproved app” which turned my machine into a €1200,- costing brick. I cannot connect to it at all and there is no possobility to programm the machine with the buttons on the machine. I have bought a pertrol engined Honda without an app which I should have done in the first place. Nevertheless, still thankful for your advice, this might be something you want to know.

We’re all entitled to our opinions…. personally I don’t like your reviews as you try to suggest you’re making fair comparisons, but you are clearly very very biased! I don’t personally own a Husqvarna Automower, but have looked after one for a local business for over six months, handling it on a daily basis (used in an area open to the public so needs to be taken in every evening), and like most Swedish products I’ve come in to contact with over the years, it is designed perfectly to do the job and does the job perfectly, not over engineered and certainly not under engineered, just perfect! A problem with the wheels on paths etc? None what so ever! Pathetic suggesting they may slip on paths. The blades on the Husqvarna are perfect, admittedly the Husq endurance blades are better than the standard ones, think Husq suggest they be replaced every 6 to 8 weeks? But when I started looking after the machine the blades hadn’t been replaced for a year, the blades admittedly weren’t in great condition, but the glass looked perfect! I could literally go through almost every point and comparison you’ve made and demonstrate that I prefer the Husqvarna design, oh, and yes, I forgot to mention and know you’re not going to like me saying it, but having spent 15 years of my career as a precision Engineer and toolmaker and a further 20 years in electro-mechanical Engineering services and technical support, I consider myself a very good judge of what’s a good product and what could benefit from some design / manufacture improvement.

The more voltage you have, the less amps are needed to get the same work done. The correct way to compare the amount of energi in batteries, and how its done in ex. electrical vehicles), is to compare how many Watthours (Wh) they have. Watt = Voltage * Amps = it gives away how much energi truly can be stored in it. As an example: A 100 AH 1 Volt battery is only 1/10th of a 10 Ah 100 Volt battery :-)
@mowermagic
@mowermagic 3 жыл бұрын
It's a fair point. Trying to find the balance between making things simple to follow and still techy enough is always a bit tough. Comparing the Watthours the Husqvarna battery is 37.8Wh, the Ambrogio battery in the Twenty Deluxe and Elite (2.5Ah) are 65Wh and the 5Ah battery in the Twenty Elite S+ is 130Wh so they definitely have the edge on battery capacity.

Its just 7 18650 cells in series. 7S with no balanced charging is not a great idea and a temp sensor should also be included. Its my only gripe with their design, everything else seems overengineered. The HQ seems to have enough leads for balancing, not sure if they monitor temps.

Was about to make a comment about how you much you were hating on the husky. I changed my mind after 5 minutes. Once you pulled the battery and motors, it's pretty obvious the husky is cheaply made and not worth the price. FYI IOS, not ISO. MOLEX, not molenex. just because the battery is only a 2 Ah battery, it doesn't mean that's all the current it will output. many single cell Li-Po (just one [of the many] cylinder[s] inside the black shrink wrap) can and are designed to sink 30 Amps shorted and be just fine. In the front of the Ambrogio it appears there is a lidar sensor (or plain IR distance sensor) as I can clearly see two lenses behind IR plastic. You didn't mention this? You did not mention if there was conformal coating in the Ambrogio main board. The coating was clearly visible on the husky with the light glare. Bigger mowers don't necessarily require a bigger processor, just more power and bigger mowers. Mowers with more bells and whistles do: GPS, color screens, WiFi, WLAN, and more sensors require more computing. Resettable circuit breakers or PTC fuses are nice as you don't need to replace anything, and I would prefer to see that. The addition of an SD card is concerning -- they are easily corrupted, and I would have preferred to see a eeprom, mmc, or garden gnome with a notepad instead. Antennas and network chips would have been nice to see closer. My nitpicking aside, this was a great video! I like to see people actually take the time to open it up and show the electrical and mechanical workings. Thanks.

Le robot passe partout, et une grosse pente à monter ne l'arrête jamais, même sur herbe mouillée : le grip est excellent . Les lames , je ne les change que tous les ans car elles sont réversibles à mi saison, et très résistantes de par leur rétractabilité.
