I’m an American citizen, living in America, and I’ve NEVER, NEVER HEARD of such school punishment, nor did my school EVER had it! Instead, we could be send to the principal’s office for misbehaving or for not appearing in school’s dress code, lunch detention (we had to eat lunch all by ourselves without talking to anyone) if we were late more than three times to school or class, stepping outside the class for being disruptive, and if we were failing class, the teacher had to e-mail our parents and have a meeting about it. And if we had more than 7 unexused absences, we had to repeat the grade regardless of our academic performances, and if it was more than 10, we would be expelled.
