Compass Box is doing it right!! Spice Tree still remains one of my favourite pours. I recommend it to bourbon drinkers looking to try scotch. Sure wish I could afford the higher price tag bottles. Great job Mark!

Well done, Mark. That Glasgow Blend is one of my faves, and unbelievable at the price. I'm a fan of just about everything I've had from them. Cheers!

Awesome rundown of Compass Box. If your'e new to blended scotch and only thought that Chivas or Johnny walker put out blends think again. Compass Box expressions will blow your mind. Even though its harder and harder to find the limited releases and they have definitely have jump up in price the last few years they are all excellent. Check out Affinity for a sweeter fruit forward scotch blend with calvados casks. Or grab a bottle of the Limited Hedonism Felicitas bottled for their 20th anniversary. It's got 30+ year old grain whisky. Overall you can not go wrong with any Compass Box expression on your bar or collection

Soon as I saw the notification with Compass Box I got so excited! Even if you might not love one of their releases it still intrigues the hell out of you! Cheers and thank you John for your vision and work 🥃

Had the Spaniard last night at a whiskey show and must confess was very good for a blended malt

In Montana all we can find is Spice Tree and Peat Monster, now...that is not a bad deal.. those two are fantastic. In WA found Hedonism for 140... had to leave it on the shelf... with WA high taxes, that made it a $170 bottle. Great Vid, was very skiddish in trying blends after a could that were very bad... but CompassBox showed the light.... they are doing great work. thanks for posting this, very informative.

Thank you Mark. The Spice Tree recipe has been changed since March 2021. No more Clynelish, unfortunately. Will be great to include that information some time in the future.

The Menagerie was quite nice. My Notes -- The French Oak influence gave it some funk, but it wore off a bit after being open a few weeks. Got really nice with a few drops of water. I was also a big fan of the Juvenile, it is a bit of an enigma but worth the price of investment. Someday hope to try to Circle, Phenomenology, Affinity, and others! Would love to hear from the S4D more in-depth sometime

Love the Spice Tree, especially the back story of it originally being banned, but I can see not so easy to include this in a beginner's guide.

Great video with a great format. Well done. I was a bit confused when I saw the Glasgow Blends in the store around $30s USD, so thanks for explaining their pedigree clearly. I say all this as a very happy owner of the Hedonism. No regrets investing $100 for a gentle, smooth dram that nicely warms up the taste buds.

Great vid, thanks! Actually planning a Compass Box tasting for my club and could use your input. I have the Orchard House, Spice Tree and Peat Monster and looking to add Spaniard plus either the Glasgow or Artist for an entry level. Any pref btwn the 2? For a premium limited edition, I have access to No Name batch #2 and #3, Hedonism, Canvas, Juveniles and Flaming Heart. Have you heard of tried any of them? Cheers from YorktownWhiskeyClub

As a JW Black fan, I have heard that the lower end blends are similar but better at their price point. Any thoughts?

After looking for months, I finally found Spice Tree at a reasonable price (lots of places around here want at or above triple digits for ANY Compass Box offerings) so I snatched it up without a second thought. Clove? Nutmeg? Spices out the wazzoo!? Sign me up! This rye drinker lives for spice. And I generally like most scotch I've tried as well. It was awful. I was so sad, but my neighbor was so happy that he profited from my misfortune. I couldn't pick out any of the spicy notes over the raw burn of alcohol and just oak and tannins everywhere. May as well have just called it "Tree".

Did you put a drop or three of water? This is disgusting to hear....
@laner.8453 жыл бұрын
@@Scotch4Dummies I very much did. Various amounts of water, even a whole ice cube to chill it, nothing made it palatable for me. I tried it on three different days to see if maybe it was just an off day. I wanted to like it so badly.

Have developed a bit of an infatuation for Compas Box limited bottles. Got my hands on Peat Monster Cask Strength, Experimental Grain, and No Name 3 recently.
@cwpreston Жыл бұрын
Normally Compass Box can do no wrong but the Experimental Grain was by far the worst over $100 bottle I’ve ever tasted. The cost was the only thing that saved it from being a drain pour. Strangely herby with the predominant taste reminiscent of water from a garden hose that’s been baking in the sun.

masonic beauty, just look at their bottles labels and presentations , it can easily come from Dracula's castle, just to mention one creepy place, what a beauty.

This comes off as a commercial for CB. Do they sponsor you guys? No issue with that, of course, just would like to know.
@Scotch4Dummies2 жыл бұрын
Nope! It's not so much of a commercial as it is an education on who they are and what their offerings are...it's a series of videos we do (there are other brands) Now we have met and interviewed the CB founder and a few of their ambassadors and can attest to their character and passion. It's a great company making great whisky!
@utoobia2 жыл бұрын
@@Scotch4Dummies Thanks! Appreciate the quick reply. I’m looking at their offerings….all NAS? But priced accordingly, and I think I’ll order a couple bottles.

Always looking at the Peat Monster because of the name, but always balked on it and grabbed something else instead. Sounds like for peat heads you'd be better off grabbing an Islay?
@StillLivinginthewoods3 жыл бұрын
Take anything I say with a grain of salt because I am a rye/bourbon guy, but when I do drink scotch I only drink peated scotch and I really like the Peat Monster. The trick is to pour it BEFORE you start pouring the really heavily peated stuff like Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Port Charlot, etc... When I drink peated whisky I always feel the need to plot out my pours before I get started, so that I am always moving from the lightest to heaviest peat levels.
@cvtttran3 жыл бұрын
No name 3 is amazing and I would take this over any single malt Islay. A blend that is better than any of them individually.

My bar currently has Myths and Legends 1 & 2, Juveniles, No Name No 2, Hedonism, Flaming Hearts, Peat Monster, Oak Cross, Great King St Artists Blend and Glasgow Blend, and the 3 mini sampler of Spaniard, Peat Monster and Spice Tree. If I had to choose I’d say No Name 2 is my favorite of the bunch but they’re all so great in their own way ❤️🧭📦
