Compass Box: First Friday Flight Fight

In this video I will be blind tasing Compass Box The Spice Tree, The Spaniard, Crimson Cask, Nectarosity, Orchard House, and Hedonism. I We will nose them and taste them to see which bottle we like best.

Hedonism was a disappointment for me at first but literally a week or two later it opened up and changed a fair bit. Beautiful coconut note I get now which I didn't on first tasting.

I've only watched the first 3 minutes of the video and I'm already salivating..!!! 🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃 I have yet to try the two new releases, but the late "Oak Cross" and today's "Spice Tree" are two of my favorite blended malt whiskies. (End of video)... Being an avid Rye drinker, the Spice Tree would have been my top choice of this flight. I do own a bottle of the Orchard house and enjoy it as well. Great presentation Peter..!

Thanks. I was eager to try both the new offerings and I don't think they disappointed me. I'll be going back to all these bottles in the near future to see how they open up. On a side note I love the label art as well. They stand out and makes you want to drink them. Cheers!

Fabulous flight comparison Peter! I am right with you with the order of preference and enjoyment!! Great minds think alike!! Lol!! Love that!! Love Compass Box. Have you ever tried Celestial. $400 before taxes here which is insane. But I admit we did enjoy one bottle immensely! It was a gift to Joel. What a lovely gift!! Cheers!! I have 4 compass boxes I have not opened. Hedonism, Artist Blend (higher proof), Glsgow Blend (higher proof), and Orchard House....I have no reason why I have not opened them... Love my Spice tree thats open and the peat monster that is open... great vid....

Spice Tree and The Spaniard are being discontinued by CB. There are plenty of stock left. But if you like them, you should secure a bottle. Excellent video! You now have a new sub here!

Hi Peter, you didn't have a Glasgow Blend in your Flight but finally you got the "Phoenix" Blend 😅. As most of times this comparison shows that most expensive whisky is Not always the Best and its good. Really nice and good CB flight with fun aspect. I just missed some peaty element in this flight but very interesting at all. Cheers 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋‍♂️

Thanks! I was going to have my sister participate in the flight so I went with all non peated bottles. As you can tell she didn't make it into the video so I just went with what I had. This was a good one and I am looking forward to diving into each bottle without comparing them against one another. Cheers!

Love Compass Box. Orchard House is amazing. If you like the Figs, dates, fruits.. Try Art and Decadence. Interesting that you mentioned a ‘tang’ on the finish for both of the new releases.

Just a terrific line up and review. Helpful notes and thoughts, as well as simple and sensible comparisons. I have only had three of the six. Your overall number one is a bottle that I have repeated as a purchase. In NJ it still hovers at around the $50 mark. Cheers.

It's hard to beat the Orchard House. All around experience is wonderful. Good price, light and crisp fruit flavors and it's easy to find (at least in my area). Cheers!

i LOVE orchard house!!! it’s everything that you’ve described. that was the first expression i bought from compass box. quick question though… what year is the hedonism from? i recently saw a bottle from 2022 on sale for $85 and was wondering if i should try it out at that price point.

I'm not sure of the year, but it's definitely not the new 2024 release. $85 sounds a lot better than the price I paid. I'd say give it a shot.

Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with Hedonism. It gets great reviews but I just can't get behind it lol. I even prefer their lower shelf stuff, like Glasgow, over Hedonism. Great video. I was able to guess all of the bottles correctly before the reveal based on your detailed tasting notes. Appreciate the content!

I met Peter when he purchased Crimson and Nectarosity…never did i expect such a great review/videography!!! Personally i think Nectarosity takes the cake on enjoyment over Orchard House but nonetheless amazing video good sir!

Hey Charles. This was a good flight. I am looking forward to trying each one of the new bottles by themselves. When you do blinds each one might influence the other so I want to have them on their own without comparing each one to the other. There was a lot of fruit in the Necarosity and I can see how that one could be a stand out. I am happy you ended up enjoying the bottle and it was great to meet you. Cheers!

I have really enjoyed both new offerings the only unfortunate thing is neither holds up against the prices…I think they would be repeat buys for sure at the $50-$55 & $60-65 dollar mark. See again you on the whisky trails 😉👍🏼

I only have the Orchard House and the Spice Tree. I've almost bought Hedonism a few times but didn't like the price. Happy it came in last lol!

The 2024 special release Hedonism is in my opinion better than the standard Hedonism, but still overpriced. Haven't tried the other ones you put up there. Gives me some insight into which one to try next.

When I bought the bottle of Hedonism they were out of the 2024 version otherwise I would have had that in the flight instead of the old one.

I bet Hedonism will lose its aceton note on the nose a week later... Happened to me on various other occasions. Btw, this might be the last push for me to go get a bottle of Orchard House, I was on the brink already.

To pick up the Orchard House where I live will set me back around 100 USD-- is it worth it?

I don't know your budget, but based on my experience with Orchard House I think 100 would be the highest I would go.
