I am bilingual and a personal fan of Ven. Pomnyun in Korean language. However, the Interpreter did a wonderful job considering the enormous gap in between English and Korean. It's never easy to comprehend Buddhism in English, although Dalai Lama did immense work throughout such suffering thanks to China for 50 years. As long as we humans can be forgiving to those who crucify ourselves like what Jesus did, I believe compassion in Buddhism says pretty much the same. It's sad when ethical matters turn into absolute religion when situation given such as 'stealing, lying and even self-defense killing' can be a good thing. Ven. Pomnyun literally turned my life around in his Korean Q&A when questions can be like what you hear on Howard Stern Show. For me, Ven. Pomnyun is this Korean version of Howard Stern but in far better 'enlightenment' way ,of course.

Well explained master Pomnyun.I was brought up in Vajrayana tradition since I was a little kid and I also respect Theravada and Mahayana tradition equally.When most people from the other faith have question about Dharma teaching of desire or other teachings,they naturally think of eliminating all desires.They have very limited knowledge about the teachings and they see it in different angle which is negative opinion to downgrade dharma without any hesitation.However Buddhist on the other hand don't seem to argue about Christian or other faith's belief system.Buddha said just because you heard it from someone or someone told you does not mean it is absolute truth.You need to further research Don't accept it blindly.I think that is the divine freedom you get in Buddha Dharma than any other faith.

기독교에서 말하는 자비는 동정의 의미가 큰거 같아요. 내가 너보다 나은 상황이니 내가 널 보살펴준다. 반면 불교에서 자비는 인간이 인간으로써 상대방을 온전히 받아들이고 서로 행복한 삶을 사는 게 불교의 자비가 아닌가 십네요. 결국 두 종교의 자비는 인류의 행복과 안녕을 위한 것은 맞습니다. 정말 불교는 진리입니다

Do Buddhist priest also sexually molest under age children and make gay relationship with them like our Western Christianity? Do Buddhist priest convert people with the help of missionaries, powererd by Vatican Chruches like enitity? Do Buddhist priest stress about Buddha being the only son of the God? Do Buddhist priest often freaks you about heaven and hell? Do you have any strategic method to redeem yourself in Buddhism? Like in Christianity if you commit a crime ( murder, rape, robbery etc), you can redeem yourself in a box where you chat with the priest, then he talks directly to the God for our forgiveness. Do Buddhism tells that while you're dying remember Buddha otherwise you'll be going to hell. Like in Christianity, even when you're a bad person, or have different beliefs, you can redeem yourself or go to heaven only through Jesus Christ. Answer Please.

American dude brought up excellent question in terms of defining compassion within baseline of two distinguished beliefs yet entire response from pom somehow glided into different route on the freeway. I think literal translation sucks. Good question, excellent monk and good interpreter but something definitely didn’t fit in perfectly. Maybe Pom’s dive into Americans via publications will do so much better.
