With all respect, those quotations from Emma are taken seriously out of context. She was responding specifically to the notion that Joseph was dictating from the Spalding manuscript- in fact, Emma was not provably a scribe for any extant Book of Mormon text. Oliver Cowdery was responsible for the vast majority. This is the same interview where Emma lies to Joseph III about polygamy, telling him that Joseph never sanctioned the practice and that D&C 132 was a lie. And we know that Joseph *could* dictate coherent letters, because he did so- around this time and many times afterwards.

The whole "Joseph only had a 3rd grade education" lie has been debunked so many times. He might not have had formal education, but they had a large library of books in his house growing up, he had very educated parents, and he was incredibly intelligent. He was known for his storytelling and ability to create lavish fiction. His parents even attested to this. Joseph DID write the doctrine and covenants and it has a similar tone to the rest of the Book of Mormon. But members somehow conveniently forget that this "3rd grade educated" man wrote 138 chapters of eloquence. Emma Smith left the church. She hated half the things Joseph did. He cheated on her and never asked for permission from his first wife, he hid things from her, etc. She was never allowed to see the plates and there's very little recording of her actually defending Joseph like is portrayed in this video. The Bible warns us to not rely on just our feelings. Religions like the Jehovah Witness also rely on feelings to confirm the truthfulness of their church and there are many others. They believe the spirit is confirming it. Do you not see a problem with this method? We all can be easily deceived by our own desires and bias.
@williamturner61925 жыл бұрын
@@tdubs5128 It isn't just feelings, the Spirit usually calls things to our attention to show the truthfulness of the word, personal guidance to evidence that it can then also testify to, the thing with proving the reality behind the Book of Mormon and the restoration of Christ's church only by the "intellectual way" is that it lacks the power of the Spirit witnessing of the truth, from there the Spirit will point out evidence on a personal basis.

How did Joseph Smith see God? Please I need clarity. The Bible declares that no one has ever seen the Being in the Godhead known as God the Father (Exodus 33:19 - 20, 1Timothy 6:15 - 16, etc.). Several people, however, did see and interact with a pre-incarnate Jesus Christ such as Jacob (Genesis 32:30), Moses (Exodus 33:11, Deuteronomy 5:4, 34:10) and Job (Job 42:1, 5). Still more people, in the New Testament, saw Jesus or God the Son during his ministry on earth (1John 4:14).

@@tdubs5128 If you are honestly open-minded, I highly recommend reading Of Faith & Reason: 80 Evidences Supporting Joseph Smith, FairMormon.org and BookofMormonCentral.org. If you have read anti-Church of Jesus Christ literature, try giving the opposite literature a try. Some of my favorite supporting evidences include: --The extensive allegory on olive tree horticulture in the Mediterranean in Jacob 5 (one of the books in the BoM, like how the Bible has the books of Genesis, Numbers, Matthew, Mark, Luke, etc) is spot on. It correctly speaks of how to prune, dig about, dung and nourish olive trees; how to graft tame to wild and wild to tame; how to graft tame back into tame; how to balance tops and roots by pruning and reasons for doing this; how to save the roots of trees whose branches have decayed, and how to transplant branches, and at least a dozen other components. Even critics have admitted this attention to minute details and practices is incredibly impressive. --In Helaman 7:10, we read that the prophet Nephi went to pray on a tower in a garden by "the highway which led to the chief market." There isn't any reason an author making up a story should include that description. Yet in Mesoamerica (where most scholars of the Church of Jesus believe the BoM took place), archaeological digs have now found that there would have been several smaller open-air markets and then a chief market in the main plaza/courtyard near the temples. --In the Book of Mormon, it talks about armor being "thick clothing." In the 1800's, the word armor would bring to mind metal suits used in late medieval Western Europe. But now we find that the Aztecs and others wore a protective, thick, quilted armor garment called an ichauipili, which could withstand a direct arrow impact. --In the book of Alma, we read of a major battle that took place at the end of the year (around December according to calendars used in Mesoamerica). It says that the armies were exhausted because of their "labors and heat of the day." Now I live in the eastern US and that doesn't describe winter to me. But it would make sense if I was talking about Mesoamerica. --In about AD 49, many people in the Book of Mormon city Zarahemla left because of contentions in the land. Their new location lacked timber so they built homes out of cement. So many critics at the time of Joseph Smith ridiculed this reference of cement. However, now we know that some Mesoamericans extensively used cement during that time period (like the temple complex at Teotihuacan). -- Joseph Smith was mercilessly mocked for the idea of metal plates. But now we know of many examples across the world, e.g. the Byblos Syllabic inscriptions, Laws of Manu, gold tablet of Darius, King Kaniska's copper sheet scriptures enclosed in a stone box, Bimbisara's gold plate to Pukkhasati, a treaty between the King of Ava and the Portuguese on a plate of gold, Master Mo-Tzu (China circa 300 BC) says he knows of writings inscribed on metal and stone and the most relevant example: the Pyrgi gold plates from 600 BC-- the same time when the Book of Mormon story starts. -- Dozens of names in the Book of Mormon have ancient Hebrew or Egyptian origins. And that is just what Joseph Smith said in his writings-- that the language of the plates was reformed Egyptian incorporating Hebrew. --In Nephi 1, chapters 3-4, Nephi says that the Lord is mightier than Laban and his fifty men that Laban commands, or even Laban's tens of thousands. In the Amarna Letters from the earlier time when Jerusalem was being besieged we read that the military governor commanded fifty men in the city for patrolling the streets, etc and ten thousand men in the field. Sound familiar? If I was making up a story, I would probably just say a big random number, not mention two very disparate figures. There are so many more evidences and I encourage you to read further about them with an open mind :)

If someone would kindly explain how if they have accepted the cursings. Its no coincidence that a black woman was chosen to defend the book.

I think I see some points that come to mind when you say that but, as you have asked me (in the sense of I am someone and it was a question open for someone to answer) to clearify (and if this is not what you were referring to please point me to what you meant) A. Since you said the Book of Mormon I will assume here you mean the skin of blackness set as a marker on the Lamanites, this was a mark, not a curse B. If you meant the matter with the Priesthood despite some strange accusations about it not coming from revelation it, like the practice of plural marriage, was a hard, often confusing thing for most God gave instruction concerning and was never something the church said was about a cursing, though some speculation about that has been circled.

The Book of Mormon is a compelling witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ, of His Sacred Mission, of His Infinite Atonement, and of the importance of using our moral agency to choose righteousness to have peace and to be happy in this life, which is our test to prove ourselves worthy to return to live with Our Heavenly Parents and with Jesus Christ in Celestial Kingdom, together with our earthly families! There are so many examples in the Book of Mormon that show the consecquences of choosing righteousness, as well as examples of not chosing righteousness, so that we can choose for ourselves and understand the consecquences of our choices! The Book of Mormon also clarifies and teaches eternal truths and sacred ordinances that were lost and are not so clearly taught in the Bible, due to scholarly translations which lacked the inspiration from the Holy Ghost! I challenge you and/or anyone who honestly wants to know if the Book of Mormon is true or fiction to read it, instead of judging it without knowing what it contains, and to ask God, in the name of Jesus Christ, if this Sacred Book of Holy Scripture is true, and, I promise you that if you ask with a sincere desire to know about its truthfulness, the Holy Ghost, which is the One who inspired its writing and traslation, will also give you a sure witness that this Book is true! I say this in the name of Jesus Chris, Amen!

Alma 7:10 says Jesus was born in Jerusalem. That is false. He was born in Bethlehem. The Holy Ghost would not make a mistake. Jospeh made it up. The Book of Mormon is lies. I read the 1 Nephi and realized it was trash once you come across the chapter that says " and it came to pass " like 100 times. That's not god making those mistakes. It Joseph. Who got drunk in a jail cell and killed a guard before he died. He was a wicked man.

I full on believe people should stand up for their beliefs, but it needs to be done on an honest and open minded way. Videos like these are horrid, but some will see through the fog and ponder the implications. Mormons want to believe, and some want to believe more than they want to know truth. The thing is, mormons know what it's like to oppose and disbelieve their religion, because it's nearly no different than opposing or disbelieving any other religion. One thing that makes Mormonism so easy to disprove and point out for the rest of the world is how young it is, how myopic its early claims were, and how dichotomous its claims ARE. But most mormons won't listen, and I can't say as I blame them. When I was super young, I didn't listen to former or non members. They were combative, in my eyes. It also doesn't help that it's hard for most to admit when they're wrong.

Like Others, I am a Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we find comfort and inspiration from the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon. We also find that the book of Mormon has elaborated many parts of the Bible, as well as introduced new knowledge the Bible lacked. An example of this is when Joseph Smith found that when a child dies, they are delivered to Heaven, they are not sent to Hell. I am not looking to Convert you here but I am giving my side of what the book of Mormon is. I do not disagree with the Bible, it is just sometimes, it can be very confusing, in Isaiah for Example. That isn't the only reason for the Book of Mormon, I mean, if you wanted the Kingdom of heaven and to dwell with God, wouldn't you take every possible outlet that will help guide you there? This Book has saved many families and changed Millions of lives, that and the Bible together can help all who seek God and Jesus Christ!

To try and jutisfy or prove the book of mormon with seeminly amazing facts about the translation process is rather a weak arguement( unless you might be appealing to people of African location) in this day of information highway. If you call that a miracle then you have to call the many amazing inventions and achiements of the world a miracle too. Mozart was 8 yrs old when he composed symphony no 1 in Eb major. A 12 yr old boy had a New York Best seller "just Jake". A 4 yr old indian boy Ayan gogoi Gohain had big success with a book called Honeycomb. Blair Pascal was 19 when he invented the first mechanical calculator. Louis Braille 15 created Braille. Alexander G Bell was 20 when he invented the telephone. David Bowie also of poor education created countless complicated music scores and hit songs and recorded them ist session. and so it goes on. The question is does an individual really want to know if there is a loving God and is the man Jesus Christ Gods Son and Saviour of Mankind. Of course tell people what you believe and bearing ones testimoney of the mission of the saviour and that you believe in the Book of Mormon is Another witness of him Jesus the Christ. keep it Brief and sincere the spirt will promt you at the best time. Dont focus all your energy just on the book of Mormon read the New Testament it has much wonderful accounts and spiritual uplifting stories and history. Enjoyable and thought provoking clip, well done.

The director shouldn't have had our Defense advocate constantly shrugging...it's aggravating. Her profile shots also are irritating. Can't we find some professional directors to do these films? This was a good try, but the direction was hideous. Can't really tell about the acting as the direction was so awful. After watching it, the one thing that I keep seeing in my mind is that woman talking and shrugging at the same time. We need better writing, too. And who cast Emma Smith? The church needs to get it right. It didn't knock anything out of the ball park with this production.

The Book of Mormon’s reliance on concepts found in the Bible and pre-existing biblical doctrine, and its attempt to mimic Elizabethton English, original language cadences, and the heartfelt passion of prophets that lived their revelations exposes it as a “pastiche.” Pronounced “pass-teesh,” this word is used to describe “a dramatic, literary, or musical piece openly imitating the previous works of other artists.” In other words, the Book of Mormon is not a genuine new revelation, but rather a blatant imitation of the real thing. When reading the Book of Mormon it becomes readily apparent that it is a pastiche of the Bible. The internal evidence indicates that this book was written by an individual who received no new revelations from God, but rather compiled a book that presents a partial and misleading collage of biblical concepts and a mosaic of scriptural words and phrases mixed with false information. I believe a careful survey of the Book of Mormon reveals it is not “another testament of Jesus Christ”, but rather a “false testament of Jesus Christ.” Will Hoyt

I don’t know why people have to question what happened or how it happened. Y’all just need to have more faith if you question this. Joseph Smith is a true prophet and did indeed translate the BOM through the revaluation of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Just believe.

What do all the scripture verses in the Book of Mormon say about the lands that surround them... and are contained with in them? If you can't follow what the scripture actually says... then you won't find the right place. It is very simple. Here... look it up yourselves: First start with what Moroni said to Joseph Smith: He said there was a book deposited, written upon gold plates, giving an account of the former inhabitants of this continent, and the source from whence they sprang. Now... what is the definition of "this continent"? Everyone knows that Joseph Smith was in New York when the Angel told him that. Today... if we said "this continent" we would say NORTH AMERICA. But in 1830... "this continent" meant both SOUTH AND NORTH AMERICA. The two were NOT considered separated at that time. And this continued into the 1900's. So.. understanding that... lets take a peek at what the Book of Mormon says about the land they were on. @t Feel free to contact me!

It is best to avoid the courtroom style defense of the book of mormon and resort to the cafeteria testimony, because historical facts, evidence, and church history are not faith promoting. A court of law would not side in favor of Joseph Smith, they would hang him for treason against the U.S. Constitution. Hand the guy the book, say "read it for yourself", and carry on. Don't think about it.
@jamesmaclean55865 жыл бұрын
I invite you to consider that you have been duped about the virtue of the history of the Prophet Joseph Smith who endure over 200 summons and experiences in court proceedings in his life time. One experience like this can be enough to destroy the life of most people... but 200? (He was never found guilty of anything, it was all harassment) I invite you to check yourself by reading the relevant portions of "The Joseph Smith Papers" No court would or could convict him of anything. They only accused him of treason over and over again because there was a loophole in the law that allowed his accusers to abuse him in a special way that was not possible with other kinds of charges.
@uthinkiamhot5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmaclean5586 really? One experience in court can destroy someone? He was not found innocent on every account. He was wanted for treason in Missouri and never stood trial. But the reality is that this imaginary defence is as laughable as believing that Joe was a great guy because he was in and out and avoiding court 200 times.
@jamesmaclean55865 жыл бұрын
@@uthinkiamhotYes the psychological distress of just 1 or 2 court trials can throw someones life easily off the rails followed by years of illness and worse.... that the prophet could endure over 200 in his short life with almost no effect on his health is a testimony to the divine strength he was given to fight against the wicked. (Who could still repent and turn their lives around. Wow I wish you would read the history of the Church Volume 1 Chapter 27 for an example of the rule of thumb that was used against the members of the Church of Jesus Christ. Governor's of Missouri allowed anti saint mobs to over whelm the local state officials, (and sometimes get themselves instated in official state positions) and fabricate endless charges, treason was the favorite because implicite in that charge was the enabling of immediate arrest of the accused... hoping they could kill him once arrested. Their lust for the blood of Joseph was endless, and so were the baseless fabrications. I would invite you to liberate yourself and find out the real history in a spirit of defense. Joseph willingly gave himself up to be executed eventually so... I don't know what more you want from him. He was the greatest man to ever live besides Jesus Christ himself.... an innocent man.
@uthinkiamhot5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmaclean5586 enjoy your prophet Joe. I'm not interested in the fairy tales about his greatness. Ephebophiles really aren't my role model type. But the point here is that the authenticity of the Book of Mormon would not hold up in a court. This film is laughable. The best take away is to pretend that the court is in your favor and then open your eyes and just say, read it yourself. (Which I have, I'm also not a fan of murderous prophets, war crime captains, and a racist god)
@jamesmaclean55865 жыл бұрын
@@uthinkiamhot The film is simple yes, but part of the point of it was that it's ultimate benefit cannot be experienced through the court system, one needs to explore its teachings through the Spirit on a deep personal level. (The Book of Mormon in and of itself though, has held up in front of an entire class of law students and a prof. The book called "Trial of the Stick of Joseph is an account of one Latter Day Saint defending the book of Mormon in court to get his degree. He won the case and convinced his entire class and professor, non of whom were members of the Church.) You can still repent and learn! God is love and is more intelligent than us all. His ways are very difficult to understand at times, but there is great purpose in all He does... there is so much more than this life. All eternity and immortality is yet to come, and you can learn or re learn the great plan of salvation (if you have abondoned it before), and God will forgive you when you are ready to give all your might, mind and strength.
