Very nice compilation of DSNY clearing the streets!! Brings back good memories of seeing them in action in my neighborhood in the Bronx growing up. I especially enjoyed seeing four of five of the trucks, plowing in echelon (trucks staggered and offset one behind the other) running at high speed on the Bruckner Expressway past my apartment building, sidecasting snow. Hats off to the hard-working Department of Sanitation of New York workers, the unsung heroes, who toil to keep New York City clean, and to battle the snow in winter to keep the city moving. Say THANKS to the next Sanitation worker you see for their often inglorious, but VERY necessary job!!

it is not that rare, in EU small municipals often use same truck for few different purposes. For example they collect garbage 2 days per week. After that they will remove garbage compactor body and mount tipper with crane, water tank, salt spreader, container roll-off body or skip loader, sewage tank and use truck to its limit. This changes can be done in 5-10min.

John, I didn't know that you video the trash trucks & snow plows. Great video comp! Trash haulers, bulk haulers, & the orange dedicated plow/sanders. Cool stuff. thank You for sharing, very interesting stuff. dealing with a snow in NYC looks like nightmare. It is a very nice concept of using garbage trucks to help with snow, however this snowplows are useless, they leave lot of snow behind them, to melt that remaining you need to spread a lot of salt/calcium.

In this case yes they do. You can tell by looking at the rear wheels.. Drive wheels have a hub in the center of the wheels where the driving axle is attached to the trucks drive line. Tag axles(no power) would look like the steering axle on the front of the truck.

The trash trucks are empty when on snow removal duty , it would be pointless and pretty gross to haul trash around in the compactor box while plowing snow.

WELL, THEY HAVE THESE HUGE EXTREMELY STRONG TRUCKS AND USE THEM WELL WITH MULTIPLE FUNCTIONS AND EVENTS. SO THEY REALLY KILL 2 OR MORE BIRDS IN SHOT BECAUSE AFTER THE PLOWING IN THE NEXT DAY OR TWO THEY PICK UP THE GARBAGE WITH THEM.....
