Article 20 (3) of the Constitution provides that “No person accused of any offence shall be compelled to be a witness against himself”. The right guaranteed under Article 20 (3) acts as a “protective umbrella against testimonial compulsion in respect of persons accused of an offence to be witness against themselves”.
