すみませ、in Japanese, do people use the 0000-2359 hours way of telling the time? Eg 0100 hours, do you call it 1時00分?
@Hamusuke-japanese
@Hamusuke-japanese 15 күн бұрын
In Japan, the 24-hour clock (also known as military time) is not commonly used in everyday life or casual conversation. Instead, people typically use the 12-hour clock system, which is divided into 午前 (gozen, meaning "a.m.") and 午後 (gogo, meaning "p.m."). For example: - 1:00 a.m. would be expressed as 午前1時 (gozen ichi-ji) - 1:00 p.m. would be expressed as 午後1時 (gogo ichi-ji) However, the 24-hour clock is used in some specific contexts, such as: 1. Public transportation schedules (trains, buses, etc.) 2. Business and official documents 3. Digital clocks and devices In these cases, 0100 hours would be written as 1:00 and read as "ichi-ji rei-fun" (1時00分). The word "fun" (分) is used to denote minutes. So, while the 24-hour clock is not the primary way of expressing time in casual Japanese conversation, it is used in certain formal or technical contexts.
