This recipe use to be called "Bone Flesh & Cartilage." I am a Master Herbalist and Naturopath (retired) and was a student of Dr. John Christopher many years ago. This recipe was given to him as a divine gift for many of his patients at the time. I still use it regularly. Thanks for demonstrating and offering this to the general public. 😁

Hi Karen, thank you so much forthis information! That is so fascinating. I always wonder where these recipes come from after being handed down from herbalist to herbalist and book to book. Thank you for giving your testimony about it working. You are such a blessing and I’m sure as a Master Herbalist Naturopath you have blessed so many! I’m sure even though you use the word “retired” it is still a part of your life. Blessings on your retirement! 😁🤗 I hope to hear from you again!

Hi Karen, do you have a recipe for regrowing gums?
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
@denisesilvaart in case Karen doesn’t see this. I did see this article online if you want to check it out until she writes back…www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/natural-remedies-for-receding-gums Hope some of these work! 🤗

@@OpenHandFarm thank you. I've used most of those suggestions for years without any results. But I believe there has to be something that works because gums are just tissue. And tissue can regrow. I just need to find something that really works.
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
@denisesilvaart just a thought… What if you pull with complete bone and tissue? If you’re worried about swallowing it, don’t put the comfy in. Although I think that will be very beneficial. Just a thought. 🤷♀️

Thanks for the comprehensive video and info! I know you well enough to know you took a long time to prepare the info, check and double check it and have everything ready. It went smoothly and I actually have no questions. I harvested Usnea Friday morning after the winds settled down and got enough for several batches - including yours! It is like gathering manna and I'm so thankful for it. It is now dried and picked over and will be in.a box to you Monday. Mine is all in jars waiting to get some Vodka to finish and for Pete's sake, just heard we are getting ready for another storm. Wonder how many are behind it? Cedar Key was hit so hard and my family has been down there helping my SIL's Mom whose house was 6 feet under and she just replaced the flooring, walls, cabinets and porches from last year's storm. Mud 2" thick over all the floors and cabinets that didn't float away and over entire yard. Amazing! It gave me so much happiness to collect the Usnea from all the downed branches as I realized there was medicine for health included in the destruction. We did fine, just some branches, electric back last night, and the kids bathed in the pool! They issued mandatory evacuation for us but the storm changed just a bit and the center was just north of us so we stayed put. Just north coast got 20 foot surge and so much destruction. Completely wiped out so many homes and businesses. We were so very lucky not to take the direct hit and my heart goes out to all those who lost so much. Now to restock our cold food and drink supplies. and catch up on my favorite channels. FUN!

Mary, thank you so much for contacting me. I don’t know exactly where you are, but I wondered if you had managed through the storm. That is so thoughtful of you to prepare Usnea for me. I am so excited to get it. I love your comment of how you were able to collect something that would bring medicinal value from such destruction. God is amazing! What a blessing your family is to your son-in-law‘s mom. That must be so devastating along with all the others who have lost so much. Blessings on your home with the storms yet to come. All of you will be in my prayers! Blessings, my sweet friend.

Where do you purchase your herbs?
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
Hi! I get most of my herbs from Amazon through Frontier, Anthony’s, or Star West. I have also ordered from Mountain Rose Herbs. I also try to grow what I can. But when I need a large amount that doesn’t always pan out. I have gradually built my apothecary. I know it can be pricey to just start out with so many herbs. I have also bought 1 pound bags with friends and split them. That has helped with the price! I hope you find what you need! 😁 Blessings on your herbal adventure!

Would this be good for my grandson’s “growing pains” in his joints? He’s turning 17.
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness Becky, that’s a good question. Please remember that I am not an herbalist or a medical professional. But in my opinion, compared to other uses that people have used it, I think it might help. As with any other salves put on the skin, start with a small spot to make sure there’s no allergic reaction to any of the herbs used. I hope this helps! I know that can be very painful. Blessings on your grandson. 😁

Can you make a tea out of it to drink on a daily basis?
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
Hi Rhonda, The only problem with that, would be the comfrey. It is recommended that comfrey not be ingested. So if you want to leave that out, I don’t see why not. 😁 of course this is just my opinion and as I stated in my video, I am not a trained herbalist. If I were you, I would research and see if each of those herbs can be used as a tea. Hope this helps! 😁

I’m interested in getting seeds to grow some plants do you have any idea where I get some
@OpenHandFarm3 ай бұрын
I enjoy buying from Baker Creek also known as rare seeds. But if you don’t have a lot of money to spend I would stick to 3-5 basic crops especially if you have not gardened before. You could look on line for seed exchanges or seed libraries near you. Or find a Facebook group that exchanges seeds. Those are usually free or inexpensive. These are just some ideas! I hope it helps! 😁🤗

Hi Mary, I love your channel,Thanks. Just wanted to ask, do I need to worry about the affect of pesticides if the herbs aren’t organic?
@OpenHandFarm2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am not a professional, but I would be concerned about using herbs that are not organic. Do I? Sometimes that’s the only way I can get them. So I don’t know if they actually have pesticides on them. But I use them if needed. That’s just the way I roll with it all. I try to do organic if I can and if I can’t find them then I just assume they’ll be fine. Hopefully that’s true. 🤷♀️ Thank you for asking such a great question. I hope my answer was sufficient. Thank you so much for commenting and for viewing! You are a blessing! Penny.

How long in the slow cooker? I just made your bone flesh and cartilage. Going to make it into a salve later. Right now i popped oil and herbs in slow cooker. Please give me approximate time! Thank you for wonderful video❤
@OpenHandFarm2 ай бұрын
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Here is how I do it in crockpot. Not sure if you just put oil and herbs in crockpot, not jars but time would be the same… How to Make Herb-Infused Oil in the Crockpot *Fill a jar about ½ to ¾ full with dried herbs, leaving room for them to expand as they soak. *Pour liquid carrier oil over herbs to cover completely. Leave at least an inch of headspace from the top of the jar. Secure the lid. *Line the bottom of a crock pot with a small dish rag and set the jar(s) on top. Add water to the crock to surround the jars, filling to about the neck of the jar. Leave the lid of the crock-pot OFF (the lid causes condensation moisture to drip in your oil) *Turn the temperature to warm (or the lowest setting available) and bring the water temperature to about 100°F. Allow herbs to gently infuse overnight (or anywhere from 8-24 hours.) *Remove your jar(s) from the warm bath and dry with a dish towel to prevent water from dripping into your oil. *Place a fine mesh strainer lined with cheesecloth or a coffee filter over a clean jar or bowl. Pour oil through the strainer and allow the oil to drip out, gently squeezing the cheesecloth/filter as necessary to extract the oil. Some sediment may still be in the oil. *Strain again if desired. *Pour the herb-infused oil into a clean glass jar and allow to cool completely before sealing it with an airtight lid. Store in a cool dry place. I hope this helps! Blessings on your herbal journey! 😁🤗
