Good Video. One comment…rub a little oil on the filter gasket prior to spinning it on.

Thanks. Helpful. One note - our dealer warned us to use a synthetic blend rather than full synthetic- they said they observed some turbo blow by on these models with full synthetic.

I'd always prime a spin on filter in such position unless it mounts sideways to the engine like on my new Frontier. Also replacing a washer for the drain plug is not a bad idea. Thanks for the video

I have had three vehicles in my life time. I serviced them all. A 1996 Ford Taurus that I sold with 219k miles. Original engine and trans. A 2010 Ford Escape with 182k miles that I gave to my daughter - she’s still driving it- original engine and trans. I now have a 2016 with 42k miles. Change oil at 3k miles and have always filled the oil filter. No issues.

In 44 years of changing oil, I have never once filled the oil filter. I've known numerous mechanics who have never filled the oil filter. In many vehicles, it not even possible.

I've always filled the oil filter. But I always heard the reason was to "prime" it so the engine didn't have to pump the oil in on first start up and avoid air in the oil lines. But looking at this one, with it being at the very bottom and pointed down, gravity should feed the oil right into it without pre-filling it, right? I also wonder if that's why Mazda says 5.1 quarts, with the extra 1/10th being to fill the oil filter?
@Ron-kp5ow
@Ron-kp5ow Жыл бұрын
Didn't look to see if it was mentioned in previous posts, but first make sure you can get the oil filter off (some can be stuck on beyond what you would think is humanly possible) before opening the drain plug.

In terms of the capacity, I put 4.8L of oil and still a bit low on the dipstick. Between the two dots. Is that normal or something not right to the engine?

Check your manual Mazda does not recommend using synthetic oil in the 2020 CX-9 w/turbo, use conventional.
@KevinNadeau
@KevinNadeau Жыл бұрын
My owner's manual says to use Genuine Mazda Oil. Is that conventional or synthetic? So, does Mazda require synthetic oil in its engines? For vehicles built in the last several years, the answer will almost certainly be, yes. Cite: www.compassmazda.com/does-mazda-require-synthetic-oil-in-its-engines/

@@Travis8126 I’d be curious to know why. Either way, I’m sticking with full synthetic 😀

@Travis8126 Жыл бұрын
@@KevinNadeau Dealer told me it has to do with the turbo, the "genuine" Mazda oil is definitely not full synthetic. Mazda sells a full synthetic oil that is printed right on the bottle. However, it may be a synthetic blend. I just have been doing what they advise, don't want my warranty voided for using the incorrect oil. Dealer has been performing oil changes on this car since we bought it brand new.
