Thank You!! Bought the switchpro 9100, and starting going down the rabbit hole of buying the other stuff. But like you, I saw that from the manufacturer it says you don't need that other stuff. Just want to make sure. Thanks for putting out a video!

Bro this was the most thorough guide to this thing I’ve ever seen. I’m picking up the switch pro this weekend and while I already had a good idea of how I was going to do it I learned a bunch of things I didn’t think of in your video. Thanks for posting this bro. You’re getting a like and subscribe from me just for that!

This is by far the best install video....thank you for explaining that we don't need all the other stuff everybody is using. I agree with you and that's why I bought this, so I don't have to install all that other crap . Thank God I found your video, I was getting ready to order everything else lol. Thank you again.

Iknow the video is 2 years old, but like everyone else has stated, this is the best information for this unit on KZbin. SDHQ has also stepped up the mounting option game for the switch, they sell full kits now for your vehicle with everything included for mounting, the plate you got, inside options. Everything you need. I've watched this video about 3 times and am going to order the 9100 for a 2018 tundra with the new overhead mount. I was going to order all the seperate parts, but I found the whole kit. I too will be buying the battery terminals as they do look clean and give better options. How have they stood up to your use in the two years now?

Great video. I noticed the same thing you did. A lot of people running a ton of extra stuff when it's not needed. That happens a lot online when people just copy what the first guy does. The solid state build is one of the primary reasons to choose the Switch Pro. For me it also came down to size. Everything included in the box is quite a bit smaller than competing products which will lead to a cleaner set-up (the whole reason to buy something like this; less wires everywhere!) Yes it's up there in price but...Buy once, cry once! 🤑

Gotta imagine it drives the Switch Pros dudes crazy to see all those aftermarket elaborate tray setups. For one thing it probably discourages some people from buying the SP9100 because it seems difficult to install and has so many additional components and failure points. And for another, it defeats all the features that make the SP9100 so great (sealed, waterproof, simple, etc.). Anyway, great job on your install, and doing it the way it was designed for.

That switch is expensive but seems worth it if you have a few accessories. Great design and makes it easy to wire everything up safely.
@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I think if you have 3 accessories or less, it's not worth the cost. But over 3 and the wiring starts to get really messy. The danger is if you get the SwitchPros, there are 6 buttons on the controller and having half of them blank looks weird. So it kind of encourages you to get more accessories...

It's recommended to wire it to the main battery. Might work off an aux battery but if you have the option, I'd go main. Probably wouldn't be too hard to test before permanently mounting everything.

Excellent video....now im wondering what all the bars, etc are for in the power-tray kit i purchased?
@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, not needed. Kinda defeats the purpose of the SwitchPros: to keep everything sealed and no exposed metal. But... it can be a nice way to do something with all the wires from the 16-pin connector if you don't have all your accessories ready to wire up. I just coiled up the wires I wasn't using and zip tied them off to the side until I'm ready to add more accessories.
@greg.ocallaghan2 жыл бұрын
How many BD lights could you run off one switch, wired the same way as you did?
@andrewtraylor2 жыл бұрын
Depends on how many amps each light is rated at. The switch pros has four 35A and four 20A switches. So you should be able to link quite a few lights on one switch as long as the total amps stays under 35A, using one of the 35A switches.

Instead of trying to push the fat end of the harness from the passenger compartment through the firewall and de-pinning, wouldn’t it be easier to push the skinny end of the harness from the engine bay through the firewall in opposite direction?
@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
You might be able to do that if your firewall grommet had a hole big enough to fit that side through (or you make a hole big enough). The nipple that I cut off to push the cable through was pretty small and even with only wires it was a tight fit. But if you could make that work it would definitely be easier than de-pinning.

@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, my baja designs S8 has the same thing. The whole thing will illuminate as white, and there's another wire that can be used to turn on 3 amber mini lights within the light bar itself. I wired those functions to separate switches so I can control each individually.

What do you do with all the unused wires? Is there any residual voltage running through them? If nothing is attached to that switch and the switch is accidentally pressed, can’t it short out?
@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
I had enough accessories ready to wire that I only ended up with 2 unused switches (and wires). I rolled them up and zip tied them out of the way, next to the power module. If you turned those switches "on", yes those wires would have power running to them. If they shorted for some reason, the SwitchPros would disable that particular switch. Since there is nothing powered by that switch it doesn't matter and operation of the other switches would be unaffected.
@SuperRastamon4203 жыл бұрын

@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
Good point! If that airbag pops the switch controller could definitely do some damage to your face. Worthwhile consideration for anyone thinking about mounting it on the A pillar.
@MarcusMussawar3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewtraylor not only that but it could pop the airbag before it can save your face from the piller
@MarcusMussawar3 жыл бұрын
but really great video defantly super helpful and easy to follow and entertaining
@andrewtraylor3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcusMussawar After doing a bit of research and watching a bunch of videos of curtain airbags deploying, I'm not super worried. Curtain airbags deploy straight down against the window to protect from side impacts and roll overs. And in most of the videos I've seen, they come out from the bottom side of the A-pillar trim, so I don't think airbag deployment would explode the trim and switch mount into your face, especially if the mount is located near the bottom of the plastic trim piece. So I don't think it's a huge danger, but in a bad crash anything could happen and it could possibly make things worse having the switch mounted on the A-pillar. I probably won't move my controller but for anybody else, mounting within the dash or center console would probably be safer.
