I enjoyed your video. I also built my Aero M5 up from individual parts completing my second AR platform rifle. Yours is probably more reliable since Aero did the fine parts assembly and tuning. I envy your location and free 2A friendly state of Utah. Never move further west to the Left coast until we as the USA are ALL FREE to enjoy our rights. I'm in Maryland, retired and looking for a place to enjoy my hobbies. Good luck with your videos.

I just got mine together after waiting for the aero adjustable gas block. I used a criterion 20 inch barrel with head spaced BCG.

Nice looking rifle. I just ordered a Aero M5 matched receiver set. Went with a Ballistic advantage 20 inch premium bull barrel. Luth grip and precision stock, Larue straight bow two stage trigger, KAK extended mag release, LMT muzzle brake and buffer tube. I decided not to use a Aero bolt carrier group. T rex Arms did a high round test. And the firing pin broke and the pin that holds the extractor broke. I went with a Dark Storm Industries BCG. Phosphate coated with chrome lined carrier and gas key. And a POF cam bolt.

I am halfway through the same build. Unfortunately I live in Washington state (about 20 mins from Aero precision in Tacoma Wa) and now I can’t get anymore parts to finish it because of the weapons ban. 😢😢😢😢. It just flat sucks. We can’t even have parts shipped to Washington anymore.

Im currently putting the same exact. 308 from Aero.... my question is(sorry for the newbieness) in the buffer tube assembly, is there a castle nut and end plate on the configuration since it's a rifle buffer tube???.... if not, what is the torque spec for the buffer tube and is loctite required since there isn't a castle nut and endplate to stake?....

Here's my experience so far...... I picked up a completed 308 M5 build from a store/builder in Nebraska. First gun was a single shot! Changed a few parts, did not fix the issue. The issue being not a reliable functioning rifle. Might get through maybe 4 rounds at the most if lucky. And always failed to lock open on the last round. Sent it back to the builder. He said the gas block was not properly aligned. Keep in mind he sent it to me out of alignment if that was the case! The gas block and rod was one of the items changed! He ended up building me a new rifle, because he felt the first was kinda rough when all was said and done. He told me he shot 10 rounds through it, and it worked flawless. The new rifle arrived at my FFL where I picked it up a few days ago. And based on what he said about it working fine, I decided to go ahead and change a few things on the rifle. I put on a different pistol grip, added an Ambi safety, put in a LaRue MBT trigger, and this time when ahead and installed a muzzle break (This was not added to the first gun.) I did remove the hand rail and added a bi-pod M-Lock rail adapter and a M-Lock sling connector. I put the scope and the 45 degree mount with red dot back on the upper receiver. But I did not make any changes to the gas block or the gas rod, or the bolt. Took the new rifle to the range and it is a single shot just like the first rifle!!! When I say single shot, I mean the rifle will fire and eject the case (Sometimes will jam with a double feed, but these are rare), but the bolt will not move far enough to the rear to load a new round from the mag! I have to charge the rifle to load the next round And, just like the first rifle it will not lock the bolt back on the last round! This rifle has not had enough rounds through it yet to be considered broken in I know. But I'm a little hesitant due to all the rounds I fired through the first rifle without fixing the issues, and this rifle already showing the same issues!! I have sent a email to Aero, but have not heard any reply. I think the rifle is under gassed and that the gas port on the 416 BA barrel could be too small, but the builder stated it is the correct size. I really like this rifle and I really want it to work as it should! It is accurate enough. I did zero the first rifle out to 300 yards. Kinda wishing I had just went with a PSA 20" 308! One Shot (Literally)... One Kill!

So far, I have not had any issues with my M5. But then again, I have only fired ~200 rounds through mine. Mine is the 16" barrel. I am not using Aero's BCG though. I opted for Lantac and so far it's been good. I may upgrade my gas block to an adjustable one down the road. Based on your issue, I'd recommend an adjustable gas block and try using a different buffer/springs. Gas issue (under and over gassing) is a common gremlin to AR10 platforms. Good luck!
@rangerdanger126
@rangerdanger126 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. I drilled out the gas port to the correct size, now it works like it should! So, if anyone has a Aero with a BA barrel that's not cycling right, it might be the barrel and the gas port. @@michaelkim5270

“Don’t need to be a rocket scientist” try building that upper and installing a gas tube Roll pin in your gas block… I have seen this make “I have been around guns for 20 years” guys fall apart as they ruin a $70 gas block and $15 gas tube while I was telling them you NEED to bevel the roll pin, Use oil and use a roll pin punch one size bigger than what’s needed so you don’t mushroom the end while driving it in

That is a beautiful build! Building one currently, kind of a money pit. Parts are hard to find unless you pay the prices of what it is available, not pre built one, piecing parts individually it is always more expensive, in mine I went with a minimalist stock because the barrel is Wilson Combat 20" super sniper SS Fluted but still, 50.7 oz!! BCG is Fail Zero Nickel Boron, Buffer is KynShot in a milspec carbine tube, low profile AP gas block and rifle gas tube, Rainier Arms Avalanche Mod2 Charging Handle, Trigtech AR10, 2 stages, duty, Ambi safe, Ambi mag release, Ambi bolt catch (I am left paw) Aero Precision Enhanced M-lok Gen2 handguard, Aero Precision M5E1 Enhanced Upper and for the lower I am going with an 80%, just for the sake of saving some $$, all major parts are FDE, will decide on accents like the grip may be black, buffer tube and buttons/controls, no compensator decided yet, I do have a Banish 30 DT can so for now got a barrel protector cap in SS like the barrel, no scope decided yet, I got some different ones but may got another for this rifle, not clear yet as the money pit does not stops! I chose FDE Translucent Mags (4) from Lancer. At first I made a mistake, since buying the parts from all over the place trying to find the best deals, mostly from optic planet, got an M5 upper and M5E1 barrel nut that I realized do not match just today, so when and ordered the Enhanced upper to match the ordered handguard from Primary Arms but ended up paying 3 days shipping as do not want to wait after Xmas to receive it, there are many small part I ordered like the buffer detent pin which is special and cost $21.00!!, money wise I have not sum up but most be close to $1700.00 in rifle parts so far, not including glass but all said I think this build is going to be great, I should have kept it simple like you did to save headaches but once assembled I think it will be worth it. If something bother me really is all the extra $$ in shipping from different places and repetitive parts ordering which adds up and then today I paid OP $38.00 for 3 days shipping that upper which is discounted but so much for it when I mark it up for shipping! - in reality, the lower cost was $145.00 from 5D Tactical but just today I saw one at Aero Precision Stripped as well for $106.00 which with tax and transfer would come close to the one I got from 5D Tactical but ready to go; remember the cutting of the lower involves some 3-4 hours; I do take my time because it is easy to ruin it if not careful, we will see in the end how it all comes together and how it looks!

NICE, Can I suggest Superlative arms adjustable gas block with bleed off or regular gas adjustments. 308 in this platform can be finicky with different loads. When I installed it a whole bunch of issues disappear. You built with the best at this point.
@fireyourrocketts
@fireyourrocketts 9 ай бұрын
@@ucan2175 Yeah after all seen in you tube when researching on it, the regular gas block may not be best option. I got greedy and now planning 2 builds in one; so 1 lower and 2 uppers sharing the BCG, 1 .308 and one 5.6 creedmore; the latest in the bear future both uppers WC Super sniper SS barrel; 6.5 in 22” it is heavy! so will get the adjustable gas block and will go with an easy to take off handguard, the current build I ordered the AP adjustable block but although Optic Planet “fixed” my order with discounts and took off the $38.00 shipping, it wont arrive until later next week screwing all my plans for the build before xmas but with 2 builds in mind will have to wait; one thing is with the KinSHOT buffer there may be some room for adjusting even with a fixed gas block but I also have in mind the odin works adjustable buffer kit and strike industry spring; the idea is once at the range I want to have everything I may need to make corrections right there and then and come back happy with a working platform; then figure out what to keep or what to send back; the KinSHOT buffer I believe it is modular but have to receive it first to see what it does

I got a contract overrun upper that has the adjustable gas block and also got the bolt and breach charging handle all on sale from AP. Then I got a stripped lower on sale then got lucky and was able to get SSA E X trigger that was like 1/2 off from primary arms. EVERYTHING on that build was on sale minus the springco orange buffer spring. The last things that I want is a kynshot buffer and nice scope and mount. Currently have a PA GLX 2x prism, XS irons, and Surefire light.

FYI. He was shooting 300m with an AR-10 (7.62) with no bipod or rear support bag. A 7.62 round is extremely capable out to 800m. With proper support, this is an extremely effective weapon system, especially if you have a MIL dot reticle. If you have a spotting scope, and a spotter it literally doubles the percentage of hits on target past 500m. All I’m saying is, this is great for individual information, but understand what’s needed for your particular environment and circumstances.

Sweet looking rifle, I like the dark earth color. It looks like you live in a long range shooter’s paradise. I just put together an Aero M5 too, but I did it from parts and a stripped receiver set. I’ve built a lot of AR-15s but this is my first AR-10. It ended up being really easy thanks to Aero. I went with 7mm-08 for my first barrel since I’m a big fan of 7mm. I have a crazy desire to try building another upper in 300 WSM.

@mattlewandowski73

Well for the purpose of being picky... "you just built and AR 10" is not accurate. You assembled a collection of completed receivers, and Aeros completed receivers are indeed easy to assemble as the lower is complete unless you want different furniture from what is presently available (they spend a lot of time sold out) or a different trigger... The upper is nearly complete lacking only the charging handle and BCG, so it too is all drop in parts. This is probably the path of MOST shooters as it is quick, easy, and the rifle is not unreasonably priced for being a high quality gun with sub MOA potential (typically 1.5-2 out of the box). You MAY lower the cost of the build further while at the same time improving the gun if you are willing and able to actually build from individual parts and parts kits. (Personally I want an adjustable gas block on an aftermarket barrel, so it might be the way to go for me, though I DO dread assembling an upper from scratch... the lower is so much easier.)
