Great video. I'm a FO on a Beech 1900 and will be transitioning to the Saab 340 by the end of the summer. These turboprops are fun to fly.

Awesome! Thanks mate. These fly over my house every day (in Nth QLD Australia) and I've always wanted to see one on the inside. Hopefully will be flying them in a few years :)

@mikalization There are lifting gates when going from flight idle to ground idle but nothing from ground idle to reverse (only slightly harder power level movement, but no gate).

Great to be able to watch real pilots doing their job and also how casual they seem to be after engaging the AP. Although a lot of a pilots duty is so repetitive, just so long as they remain alert at all times. Sure wish i was a real pilot wow. Great video. thanks for uploading.

When you are putting saabs in reverse, do the throttles have lever on them you have to press to let them pass through idle to reverse are do they just continue back? and nice video

Frame rate capture of camera is different than display refresh rate. Some video frames then don't match and are seen as flickering. No flickering in the cockpit :)

This is the sound of propeller blades going into fine pitch. On ground, propeller RPM are kept constant just above 1000 and power/thrust is controlled via changing pitch and fuel flow (with power levers).

When turning off Avionics L/R, does the FMS also get turned off? And if yes, is it able to retain perf/fpln data or do you wait until after engine start to put that in?

I have two question please! 1.) How to you decide CTOT - lowest to heighest (108)? 2) When you disengage AP on final approach,YD also gets OFF. Don't you need the YD on final to compsensate for cross-wind alignment? THANKS!!
@vanair14884 жыл бұрын
Hi simhoper, ctot power is calculated for minimum allowed setting for given conditions to reduce turbine ITT temperatures. Full power is seldomly used unless at max takeoff mass and runway is contaminated. YD is only needed for coordinated turns, crosswind landings are always flown with ap/yd off anyway (latest height for disconnecting both is 50ft agl). You're welcome :)
@simhoper89534 жыл бұрын
@@vanair1488 Thank you very much!. So in a typical takeoff you select 110? What is the maximum Throttle angle which won't over TQ the engine?. I am building a sim for the 340. But in my country there is no Aaabs. But I admire the capability of this machine. Currently I am collecting the computer cards, visual system and other hardware. It's going to be a semi-enclosed sim. Thanks for your info.

What causes that sound at 11:48? Just the reduction in power?

My favourite modern airliner. Once rented one just for the heck of it for a 80-min flight.
@smikes712610 жыл бұрын
Surely it's hardly a modern airliner more old school i would have thought.
@PeterNGloor10 жыл бұрын
It does have some CRT displays, and they are original. This plane is still modern. Ask a friend of mine who once was an instructor on it. Many people think propeller equals old. AFAIK the Dash-8 is the same age group, or the ATR42.
@smikes712610 жыл бұрын
Just from the point of view of navigation there no way to fly waypoints like a basic gps.everything is VORs etc.But don't get me wrong i love this aircraft.
@flyboy24210 жыл бұрын
flyxplane1 Some Saabs, like the ones I flew, do have GPS units. One or two around have very old FMS units. They're expensive so some companies opt to go without them.

You miss troubleshooting the engine intake antiice? :)
@Finaltouchone112 жыл бұрын
As a mechanic on the saab, all you do is push the engine throttle full down. Some are harder to push down than others do to coffee, food and other crap that gets caked on the arm roller assembly below.
