I started playing like 5 months before the closure and got to do everythign due to the strong power creep and farming options for super rare materials. Alone 1 Raviente Weapon to max it until Zenith 100 lvl cost you like 1-2h with only upgrading while selling money coupons and buying Raviente Gems from a cheat patch for the last moment of the game. Grinding those Gems normally is a crazy task and takes years, since you need like 1.000.000.000.000 or so Gems to max the weapon and you dont get that many at all with each normal Raviente hunt...

I started with Tri. And was obsessed as a kid. When I found out about MHF, Ray Gougarf and Lolo Gougarf were being released. I remember looking at their designs and over the top fight and going "wow this looks amazing, I hope it comes to console". I never did play MHF, but all the monsters were so cool looking, the fights looked absolutely brutal, but thats was the appeal I got out of it. It's a shame I'll never be able to play it. But then again, I wouldn't have the time to nowadays...

Nice work on compiling all of this together. Besides MH Freedom and Tri, Monster Hunter Frontier played an important role in of making me a fan of this series. Because of the influence it had, I hope that I can one day experience what this game has to offer in some way, whether it's bringing over the monsters to the mainline games or they make some spinoff series(Hopefully released internationally).

You've earned yourself a subscription from me. I've been on a MH kick with the release of Rise, reading about old games, wanting to go back and finally play Generations Ultimate, and even considering giving the original a shot. And Frontier has always mystified me ever since I first stumbled upon it doing research back when I first got into the series. It was great to finally learn a bit more about the game that always seemed like the most strange and mysterious part of the series. And I gotta say, a lot of the issues with the game, such as the endless escalation in both monster and player power, seem like mostly symptoms of being an MMO. Without a regular reset between games, you have no choice but to build higher and higher. But that said, this also seems to have given the game a lot of really unique features that it's a shame that it's now dead. It's also disappointing to hear that it's unlikely that the content will ever come over to mainline MH. The recent games have felt like they could use, say, some new weapons, and Tonfas + Magnet Spikes would be a good additon. Back in the day I always thought Tonfas seemed too flashy, but frankly they'd fit in fine in a post-MHW era.

This stuff is so cool, I really hope they bring a lot more into the main series. Considering the progression from Gen > World > Rise has already turned our hunters into anime protagonists, Frontier's craziness would fit right in. Hell it might provide the proper challenge to match our power level, as the poor old Rathalos and Tigrex and other OGs are just being bullied by the hunters at this point.

Hypnoc and Lavasioth were actually a joint creation from the normal MH team and Frontier for the main series however they were added for Frontier first. So technically they were supposed to be in normal MH first and then Frontier second. Espinas was also supposed to be in MHFU alongside these two. At least that's what I heave heard anyway.

I think Frontier presents an excellent case study of why Monster Hunter games work better as individual releases, rather than persistent online MMOs. The power creep starts to get a little ridiculous (in terms of player skill requirements, not just the absurdity of the monsters) when each new addition is expected to outdo the last and the hard reset we get every once in a while via a new generation/mainline entry helps curb this. Since Monster Hunter wouldn't necessarily have player levels in an online format (at least not in the same way that you'd see in something like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy 14) simply raising the level cap doesn't "reset" players in this environment and therefore the standard expansion format might not produce the same results you'd normally desire. If they were to try and do another Monster Hunter online game, I think it would be better if they took a look at non-linear forms of player progression as they reach the endgame. While I do not condone it's business practices and generally hate Bethesda and ZeniMax's guts, the colloquially named "horizontal progression" present in Elder Scrolls Online may be a good template to start with.

I still remember doing my service back in Frontier, when I was an absolute noob. Raviente changed me permanently. Even today, I don't think I'd be as good at hunting if I didn't hunt him. It wasn't really that hard, more like a rite of passage, like Lao. Dyuragaua hunts kept me on my toes, as my bad armor meant a single mistake was a one hit kill. After making its Long Sword, and ironing out most of my mistakes, I joined others and took Raviente down. Along the way, I fought Nono and Kamu, Espinas, Gogomoa and its event variant with the creepy mask (scarred for life), Taikun Zamuza, the scorpion, and many others. A memory I treasure deeply even today. HR99, since free accounts didn't go higher, but still proud af of what I had achieved. I couldn't fulfill my dream of hunting Shantien, but it was fine. I took what I could and grew as a hunter. And I would have it no other way. ;)

Many of these monsters make me feel better about Hypers in Generations Ultimate. I'm currently trying to clear ALL of the online quests and have about 40ish quests remaining (which is pretty good considering there's over 1,300 if I recall correctly), and while I expected Hypers in G-Rank to one-shot me as a Valor HBG user, I wasn't expecting it from High Rank as well.

@@birthdaygnat8314 those tools aren't public right now. There are some fans working on a full translation and possibly (?) a private/offline server. Keep in mind there are like 17.000+ weapons in the game, even more armour and not to mention just sheer items. It's not gonna happen anytime soon, especially since the game shut down somewhat recently.

@@copyrightstrike4666 Actually, from what I've seen/heard, the fist.moe team is almost done with the first pass of translation. The main issues they're facing are behind the scenes with internal workings of the server and the like, though I don't know much more with how quiet they are with their progress. Their project will likely be another year at absolute minimum, but there are actually some other projects by smaller teams/individuals available that can provide a barebones experience, such as ErupeServer.

But I personally have doubts about this project, mainly because of the issues that Capcom could have with the game being free and available worldwide. Honestly the more I watch this over and over again, I feel like the similarities Frontier had to the mainline far out weigh the differences. Like take away the weekly events and additional multiplayer aspects and the core of the game is still like a normal monster hunter. Its not really until Z did things get a bit out of hand with the scale of monster attacks and hunter abilities. Like EX dodge could almost be seen as what Wire fall does for hunters now. Tonfa's abilities to be constantly in the air isn't any different then Insect Glave or Rise's Gun Lance rocket boost attacks. Honestly most weapons in the main line games have evolved to throw us around like we are in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (is that reference to old to use now?). The monster designs themselves aren't a big enough diversion from main line designs IMO. The spike argument is stupid when we have Negigante. The attacks would be the only thing I would think that would need a bit of re-balancing or changing. It just really bums me out as a MH fan that there are so many monsters we don't get to see outside of their origin games, be it Frontier, Online, Explorer, Riders or whatever it was called (proto type to Stories). The designs shouldn't be allowed to be lost in time. The mechanics shouldn't be lost either. I think multi element/blight would be a great addition to the main games. I think elemental resistance would be too. Why would a fire monster take neutral damage from a fire weapon? shouldn't it resist it? or hell absorb it and punish the Hunter further for not preparing better? I just feel like the direction we are heading is eliminating one of the core concepts of Monster Hunter. The necessity to LEARNING about the monster, rather then just doing math and seeing how to get the biggest numbers and just brute forcing our way through the games. I have restarted my playthrough of MHGU and right away I was met with the equipment hill. None of this one hunt and i'm able to make half a set of gear BS. If I wanted to get what I needed I needed to grind 3-4 hunts to get all the mats that come from multiple sources and not JUST the target monster. heck when I got to HR3 and went on the mushroom quest that turns into a Glavinus hunt, I took his ass on with only gear that was level 2-3 on most parts and I did have a Bullfango Hammer with Attack (M). I fought his ass for 30 mins until I literally had ran out of potions and the drops on the map just weren't giving me the stuff I needed for crafting potions to high potions. I failed eventually but it was a battle and I enjoyed that. Rise, as fun as it is in its own right, just was missing that grounded player build up. I was able to craft so much so quickly and yes, due to some skill built in GU, fly through the village and low ranks without too many issues. I just think Monster Hunter needs to bring back some personality to the monsters, keep the player power in better check, and to make sure we are learning fights not brute forcing our way through them.

Hardcore gamers are not entitled to developers creating whole series of games that only full-time grinders can enjoy. Some of us have lives and only have an hour or two a few days a week to game, and shouldn't be gatekept from enjoying a game without having to spend a week grinding for one weapon. If all the fights still took as long as they did in the older MH games, people like me would never even be able to scratch the surface of these kinds of games. They should just make a hardcore mode that you elitist gamers can use to lock away every single Q.O.L. update and new feature since OG PS2 Monster Hunter...better yet, just ignore the new games and keep playing the outdated older games and have crappy, clumsy controls and movement style provide 70% of the difficulty

90% of the game is completely playable, the only real issues are Raviente and I believe Hunter's Road, the former of which is bootable but still needs to be perfected (check out Gingaluna on Twitter)

I ask cause I've seen the community build currently going around and heard lots of good of it but I am aware that there's things missing like Raviente and I was just wondering since I myself have been considering if its worth trying out now or just waiting down the line

@@shagoremagala It's really just that Raviente doesn't work, events and stuff like that don't really function, there are a few weapons that if crafted corrupt your save, and none the stuff you had to pay for like the gacha weapons works which is why they put those items in the store for zenny..... which IS basically cheating since you can just buy god teir equipment for cheap but towards endgame you really need it. It's worth it for messing around solo, but its not in a proper private server state. If you absolutely can't wait, go for it. But for most people, I'd hold off until fist makes a final public build. And I actually run a private server for me and my friends so I think I have a good idea what I'm talking about

So after hours and hours of trying to get the game working with different versions of the launcher, I finally managed to play a decent bit of Frontier and I have to say I'm super impressed. The sheer amount of content is unbelievable, and the gameplay is surprisingly solid. They definitely did some crazy shit with Frontier, but I'm so happy we're finally getting some more Frontier monsters in the main series with Sunbreak. This feels like a huge breakthrough for the community, and I hope Frontier gets recognized more for its good ideas going forward.

to be clear cross-play is alot easier when coming from pc going to consoles than the other way around... why? well it's not a technical reason but a legal/contractual/business reason... console manufacturers make contracts determining whether crossplay is possible upfront. manufacturers don't want crossplay because it means sales that should be theirs will be going to another platform, this is something they don't wantto encourage because they make a majority of their money off software sales. if the game is already available on the pc where the developer has leverage to demand crossplay, and manufacturers have motivation to accept it because the games have already been sold on the pc, meaning the pc wont eat into new console soft sales... this is probably why capcom says they are going to go pc as main console, which probably is more business speak than technical speak, meaning we will be putting out a pc game first so crossplay is on the table.

i actually like some of the lower tier monsters from frontier, it's just that the power scaling is way too nutty for a mainline game. like a normal everyday monster just straight up gaining the ability to blow up the whole arena for no reason is just too much for me.

Whilst I have never played MHF, I personally find it odd that (according to what I heard) players got upset with the Lavasioth and the bird like monster (can’t remember how the name is spelt) being introduced to Freedom Unite. I can understand why they did, it was a paid subscription to fight those monsters, but it would’ve been a good way to advertise the game aside from commercials and such. Imagine if for every new mainline game, they had a single monster from Frontier in a special quest. It would make players curious and interested in Frontier. Not only that, but those who lacked access to Frontier would suddenly get a small taste of the game

I can see that being a Japanese humorous boss character. It's not a uncommon joke to compare a certain physical appearance to a Gorilla in Japan after all so I'm guessing that the developer in question were known as the Gorilla of the office and meaningful enough to bring to the public. Additionally if I'm correct so far it's likely that gunlance were his personal weapon of choice and therefore it resulted in a monkey with a gunlance that represents a certain developer in the game not meant to be taken very seriously. So being a bit used to Japanese culture it's not particularly strange. Considering how the game were mainly targeted towards a Japanese audience along with a few other Asian countries I think it made sense to most of the playerbase.
