I elected to backfeed the generator power through a 50 amp breaker. It is prevented from backfeeding to the commercial power by an interlock that prevents the generator breaker from being turned on until commercial power is turned off. The generator is a 13kw dual fuel unit that can power the whole house.

I did the same thing…

Yeah, I did the samething as well. I'm wondering...he must mean it's illegal in Canada, because here in the US everybody has the inlet box with interlock setup.

Thank you, just what I was looking for. Here in rural Idaho, we seem to have power outages monthly, just so Idaho Power can show you their control. 😊

Can the original breakers by bypassed entirely and the breakers in the MTS panel leveraged for both line and generator power?

Your generator is running at 8000 watts but your inlet is for 30amp.? 30 amp inlets have 7500 watts max! You should be running an 50amp inlet which has 12500 watt max capacity. Also I have this same exact Champion 30a transfer switch but decided to just use the 30a inlet with an interlock kit. It serves the same purpose only with an interlock kit, you have more flexibility as to which breaker you want turn on. Be advice to always calculate your watts as to not go over your generator capacity limit. Also for those wanting to use their AC units, best to install soft starter with proper ton model.

I want the interlock, but my breaker panel isn’t big enough. I have no room for any extra breakers. I have the same generator as well. I’m getting the transfer switch with the 50 amp inlet. I appreciate the comment.

I know that the switch box needs to be close to the electric panel box, BUT, how far from the switch box can the connection port for the generator be? M panel is on the back corner of my house, my generator, hooked up to my natural gas line, is on the front side of my house.

I also live in Canada, and was looking into one of these solutions…I was told by an electrician we can’t use these manual transfer switches the way they are explained in their manuals, as the Electrical code in Canada prevents you from using your main panel as a pass through for circuits not terminated in the panel.
@larrygodbold301716 күн бұрын
It's the same in the USA, the code term is called using the panel for a raceway.
