It's true, digital "ownership" is really just long term rental. You own nothing and gave someone your money for nothing.
@bradlysnyder82264 ай бұрын
Not when that digital ownership is piracy. You keep that shit forever if you know how to back up and save your games from computer to computer

I just got back into playing n64 games! Seeing this is quite refreshing and I would love to help my Little sister who is collecting those 64 games as well as the Sega Dreamcast games. She might not go the extra mile getting the Japanese, European and Australian games but just getting the complete North American Library is a definite worthwhile goal.

Did you have any criteria when choosing a region over another, like your Airboarders 64? Obviously there's the PAL vs. NTSC thing, that game is Japanese-made and was meant to run at 60 Hz, did that factor in to your decision or was it just about your PAL N64's issues and/or availability? Do you have multiple regions of any games? Obviously games are often changed across regions, so e.g. owning a USA Chameleon Twist isn't the same thing as owning a Japanese Chameleon Twist. The USA version seems basically unfinished, while the Japanese game has power-ups, additional rooms, etc.
@lucashorvath3718 ай бұрын
My criteria was to get every American game plus any game not released here. I was not counting international versions of any games ie a US and Japanese version of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I decided to get the japanese copies of Airboarder, Rakuga Kids, and Centre Court tennis because they are readily playable on my NTSC N64. I've region broke it to play the japanese games. I do know there are regional differences. I just decided not to sink more money into an already expensive goal.

Nice video! I have a big collection N64 (namely PAL) and I have 1 rule: don’t pay more than it’s worth. (Swapping is a different story) What’s your opinion about this? Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
@lucashorvath3718 ай бұрын
Sounds like a good rule! It could get tricky and take longer, I also tried to shop locally as much as possible, at least for the American games. The Japanese games were all bought online

Disappointed you paid Diddy Kong Racing dust! 😢 My top 3 are Ocarina of Time, Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing, the rest of the top 5 has so many contenders including Lylat Wars (one of the most replayable for me), Mario 64, Majora’s Mask, Fzero X, Banjo-Tooie, Wave Race, Rayman 2, Conkers Bad Fur Day…damn so many gems!

Where did you get the protective cases that each cartridge is in? And could you give the Etsy link for the top labels?

I was a little surprised that Bangai-O wasn't briefly re-mentioned for the price. Only 10,000 of that game were made. I saw one in a Japanese used electronics store for about $300. It's the most expensive one I'VE see at least. And probably my most wanted N64 game at this point. I will almost certainly never own it. :( Makes me sad. I know you don't want to disclose prices, but I would be interested in knowing if your copy of Bangai-O was a better deal than what I saw.
@lucashorvath3714 ай бұрын
It was a lot cheaper when I bought mine. I didn't know it was 10k units rare! Thats a lot less than I thought. It was also on the Dreamcast too!
@gunsunnuva83464 ай бұрын
Yup! I think they changed some of the gameplay systems in the Dreamcast version, but I wouldn't mind having it. Still, even that one is very expensive here in Japan. Close to a hundred last time I checked.
